Microsoft has been trying to close the $68.7 Billion merger with Activision Blizzard, but it has been over a year, and the outcome is still unclear.
Recently Sony claimed that Xbox Game Pass is superior to PS Plus, and the service has become a key aspect of disagreement between the two companies.
While Game Pass continues to be an incredible service, Microsoft has officially ended its $1 trial for the subscription. This offer has been running for years, which lets players use the service for just $1.
However, this will not be the case anymore, as Microsoft confirmed to The Verge that they are no longer offering the trial. Kari Perez from Xbox said:
“We have stopped our previous introductory offer for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.”
Many have speculated that Microsoft would raise Game Pass prices if the merger is approved. CMA also claimed that Microsoft might increase the price of its subscription if the Activision content is added to it after the approval of the deal.
However, Microsoft confirmed the company would look into more promotions and offers for new members looking to try the service. The $1 deal has motivated many new users to try the subscription service so a new offer would be a huge help for Game Pass.
As such, it seems unlikely that Microsoft will raise the prices of Game Pass as Microsoft has already claimed that prices would not go up if the merger were to happen.
Microsoft also clarified that any potential price hikes would not be to the detriment of Activision titles joining the subscription at launch.
For now, the gaming giant is going to work on the new Xbox Game Pass Friends and Family plan. This plan lets multiple players share Game Pass for a cheaper price.
Aside from that, what do you think of Microsoft terminating the $1 trial of the Xbox Game Pass? Do you use Game Pass? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
