The Xbox Series S has seen mixed reactions from the gaming industry. While many have been impressed by the budget-friendly console, it has also raised concerns about the future longevity of the Xbox console.
While speaking to GamingBolt, the Creative Director behind The Crown of Wu has shared his opinions on the budget offering. The developer believes the Xbox Series S is more suited to being a support console.
The developer elaborated on his statement by comparing the Xbox Series S to more powerful consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
He believes the Xbox Series S will serve as a secondary console for people curious about the Xbox platform. Currently, Microsoft is offering great value with subscriptions like Game Pass and upcoming console exclusives like Redfall and Starfield.
As such, the cheap entry cost means an incredibly affordable platform for these features, with the console often being found for below the $299 price. He also said:
“It’s going to be hard to hold 1440p/60 FPS for the most demanding games of the generation.”
The console’s capabilities have also been up for debate in the past. Previous rumors have claimed that developers were pushing to drop support for the Xbox Series S. While this particular rumor was not confirmed, developers have not shied away from talking about the budget console’s shortcomings
Only time will tell if the Xbox Series S will continue to perform well. The last few years have been filled with cross-gen releases, but the gaming industry is finally ready to move on in 2023.
As such, the next few years of gaming will be significantly more demanding, and only time will tell if the budget-friendly offering from Microsoft will be able to hold its own in future titles.
