Xbox Will Continue To Exist If The Activision Deal Fails – Phil Spencer

Failure Will Not Be The End For Microsoft!

The Activision Blizzard merger continues to be a struggle for all parties involved. While Microsoft has recently made valuable progress convincing Nvidia, PlayStation has proven to be a more difficult opponent to the $68.7 Billion deal.

Recently, Microsoft presented its arguments to the European Commission, hoping to convince the regulator. Following the hearing, Phil Spencer was in the UK and talked to The Times, addressing various points about the acquisition.

During the interview, Phil Spencer was asked about the future of Xbox in a world where the deal was blocked. He replied saying,

“It’s not some linchpin to the long term- Xbox will exist if this deal doesn’t go through.”

However, he reiterated Microsoft’s commitment to buying Activision Blizzard. Phil Spencer said:

“This is an important acquisition for us.”

The gaming giant has previously acquired gaming companies like Bethesda Softworks, Obsidian Entertainment, and more. Microsoft has also signed Game Pass deals for high-profile games like A Plague Tale: Requiem and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Recently launched, the Xbox Series S|X consoles have been doing much better than the last generation. Microsoft is also among the biggest tech giants in the world, and Xbox is just a tiny part of the company.

Therefore, with the improved position of Xbox and Microsoft’s financial status, there is little doubt that Xbox will be able to bounce back from a setback, even if regulators prevent the Activision Blizzard merger.

During the interview, Phil Spencer further elaborated on competition in the market. He stated:

“Competition is us trying to get stronger.

Microsoft aims to complete the acquisition by June, but the gaming giant will continue to compete in the industry with or without Activision. Game Pass has given Microsoft a key advantage, helping the company stand out from Sony and Nintendo.
