Hogwarts Legacy: Even Developers Are Boycotting The Game

Hogwarts Legacy Devs Not Happy With JK Rowling Profits!!

Hogwarts Legacy has just been released and has started making highlights online. Even before the release, it became the best-selling game for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on Amazon. Later, the game got impressively positive reviews which increased the hype even more.

The exciting thing is that before the game’s official release, it reached 500K concurrent players on Steam, and after the release, it reached 700K, Concurrent players. So, in a nutshell, we can say that the game has been highly successful, but there has been a controversy. Some players are boycotting the game due to its relation with J. K. Rowling.

Not only are the players boycotting, but the developers are doing too, which is quite surprising. There is no doubt that Hogwarts Legacy will be one of the biggest games of 2023, but the controversy might affect it a little.

J. K. Rowling has been accused of making transphobic comments over the past few years, which is why people are boycotting the game. There is a list of the remarks J. K. has passed, but the main one is her essay “five reasons for being worried about the new trans activism.”

J. K. Rowling isn’t directly involved with the development, but she will be getting some percentage from the sale. This reason was enough for players and developers to boycott the game. One of the developers, Parker Hartzler, tweeted on Twitter that he won’t be buying the game.

Hartzler makes his point clear here that he is an ally of the trans people and will stand by them. He said:

“Trans people do not deserve to have people like JKR grow and prosper – any ammunition to the wrong side is damage to a society I would otherwise wish to see in the future. One where people are not discriminated against for their gender, sexuality, or any piece of their identity.”

Hartzler got so much support as people thanked him for his contribution, and many boycotted after seeing his tweet.

Aside from that, what do you think of this whole controversy? Are you playing the game? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
