Alan Wake 2 Director Was Inspired By Uncharted!

Story Highlight
  • The director behind Alan Wake 2 took inspiration from Naughty Dog’s work on Uncharted.
  • He believes Remedy Entertainment should aim to become the European version of this PlayStation studio.
  • Fans can expect this influence to impact the Max Payne remakes.

Remedy Entertainment has long been a fan-favorite developer in the industry, and the team’s success with Alan Wake 2 in 2023 has seen it reaching new levels of mainstream popularity.

Alan Wake 2 was praised for its gorgeous visuals, mind-bending story-telling, and more. In many ways, it was one of the best horror games released in 2023. During a recent interview, the director explained how Remedy Entertainment created such an exciting game.

Going by his words, the studio took direct inspiration from the team behind Uncharted and aimed to become the European equivalent of Naughty Dog.

Why it matters: Naughty Dog has an incredible lineup of franchises. It is also known as one of the finest teams for creating memorable single-player gaming experiences.

Kyle Rowley recently appeared on the Behind The Voice podcast and discussed his history with the industry.

When asked about his initial experience working with Remedy Entertainment, Kyle Rowley described how he approached Quantum Break’s development. Kyle Rowley stated that he was inspired by Uncharted and aimed to replicate Naughty Dog’s quality in his work.

I think we should be aiming to be like the European version of Naughty Dog.

He later went on to direct Alan Wake 2, a game that offered the same cinematic flair that has become synonymous with Naughty Dog’s work.

While Naughty Dog needs no introduction, Remedy Entertainment’s praise of the studio is a huge deal. The team is known for creating genre-defining IPs like Max Payne, so this statement highlights just how far PlayStation’s premier studio has come over the last two decades.

While Naughty Dog is famous for multiple IPs, Uncharted and The Last of Us have made the biggest splash. The former is still recognized as a major part of PlayStation’s legacy, while the latter is considered the most awarded franchise in the industry.

Therefore, it seems fitting for Remedy Entertainment to be looking up to one of gaming’s best and most talented teams. Perhaps this inspiration will shine through in the Max Payne remakes, the next major project from the team after Alan Wake 2.
