One of Capcom's Fastest-Selling Title!

Story Highlights
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 topped 2.5 million sales in just over a week.
  • The franchise sales have reached 10 million in total.
  • This success may encourage Capcom to consider a sequel to this RPG.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the RPG to play right now. The game has much to offer in its expansive world as it seeks to allow players the freedom to create their own adventures through unscripted, awe-inspiring moments.

Following positive reviews and Capcom’s biggest Steam launch, the game has recorded an impressive number of sales. The publisher states that Dragon’s Dogma 2 sold 2.5 million units.

Why it matters: In many ways, this sequel was a gamble for Capcom. The first game was never among its biggest releases, but the publisher appears to have found another major hit in 2024.

Capcom’s sales update confirms that the franchise has sold 10 million units combined. This includes copies sold across platforms as old as the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The publisher states that Dragon’s Dogma 2 reached these figures in less than ten days. While this may not be comparable to the likes of Resident Evil 4, which sold 3 million units in 2 days, it marks a strong revival for the IP.

Capcom boasts unique elements like the pawn system and nearly unparalleled freedom in the RPG elements. When combined, these systems make for an RPG experience unlike any other in 2024.

The publisher has also begun to introduce rapid fixes to the game. Following an announcement last week, a 30FPS frame rate cap is now available on consoles. Meanwhile, the PC version is noticeably better than it was at launch.

Various mods are also available to improve the overall experience on PC, allowing the game to support DLSS3 and Frame Generation.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is now in a position to pave the way for more games in this series.

Director Hideaki Itsuno has worked on Dragon’s Dogma and Devil May Cry for the last two decades, and he is quite passionate about the former. Therefore, this success might be the push Capcom needed to greenlight further entries for this RPG franchise.
