Nominated Despite A Lot of Controversies!

Story Highlight
  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard, one of the most controversial games this year, was just recently released.
  • The game has been nominated for the Ultimate GOTY at the Golden Joystick Awards.
  • Other notable nominees are FF7 Rebirth, Black Myth: Wukong, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Astro bot.

This year has been insane for gaming. A lot of controversies were started due to games like Concord, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The latter one was just recently released, and it has had a positive reception from critics and fans.

While it recently got review-bombed on Metacritic by users, the Steam reviews are quite positive. Still, many OG fans of the series have shown their concerns over the ‘woke content‘ and some other elements of the game.

Despite facing a lot of controversy and hate, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been nominated for the Ultimate Game of the Year Award

Why it matters: It might be surprising to see the latest instalment in the Dragon Age series being nominated for such an award, but it might also happen at The Game Awards.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard GOTY
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Has Been Nominated As Ultimate Game of the Year At the Golden Joystick Awards 2024

As you can see in the image above, the controversial title is among the nominees. Many great titles, such as Black Myth: Wukong, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Metaphor: ReFantazio, are also nominated in the same category.

So, the completion is going to be fierce. Given how big of a franchise Dragon Age is and its influence in the gaming industry, this nomination doesn’t come as a surprise. However, the game is under a lot of heat, and a former Sweet Baby employee had to reveal that the company didn’t work on this title

Some fans might not like this nomination, but others who have enjoyed it must be delighted. Nonetheless, we hope the most deserving among all the nominees takes home this most prestigious award at the Golden Joystick Awards.
