Cyberpunk 2077 Redemption Outweighs Witcher 3 Success!

Story Highlight
  • CDPR has declared redeeming Cyberpunk 2077 as its biggest accomplishment.
  • The developer believes this task was incredibly hard to achieve.
  • The difficulty meant that Cyberpunk 2077’s redemption outweighed The Witcher 3’s accomplishments for the team.

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the few games that have come back from a seemingly impossible scenario. Having started as one of the worst games of late-2020, this RPG is now renowned for its open-world, narrative, and visual benchmark.

It wasn’t always like this, but CDPR’s grit and determination kept the team going until the end. While this redemption has been discussed on various occasions, CDPR made a bold claim recently. It said that this is the team’s biggest accomplishment.

Why it matters: CDPR is one of the greatest RPG developers. Because of the team’s history, this statement should not be taken lightly.

During an interview with Dualshockers, Cyberpunk 2077’s Lead Quest Designer, Pawel Sasko, addressed the journey of the team’s latest RPG once again.

I would say it was definitely the hardest-earned achievement we have.

-Pawel Sasko

When he was asked about the comeback being this team’s biggest achievement, Pawel Sasko quickly agreed. However, the developer also addressed the huge elephant in the room.

Besides Cyberpunk 2077, CDPR is well known for The Witcher 3, which set a new open-world RPG benchmark nine years ago. However, Pawel Sasko states that he is a bigger fan of the former, and redeeming it was a bigger achievement.

I do feel it’s a bigger achievement. Also, it was just because of how difficult it was.

Interestingly, Pawel Sasko noted that he would consider The Witcher 3 a bigger achievement if Cyberpunk 2077 launched in its current state.

Therefore, the developer drove home the point that the uphill battle and impossible odds made this accomplishment bigger than anything the team had done in the past.

Both RPGs provide exceptional experiences today for anyone looking to lose themselves in a massive world brimming with life. While one provides medieval fantasy themes, the other is set in a futuristic sci-fi universe.

For this reason, it’s hard to draw direct comparisons between Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. Still, it’s easy to see why CDPR believes the former is a bigger deal now. If the team’s word is anything to go by, however, The Witcher 4 will triumph over anything that the team has done so far.
