4 of the Current Top 10 Pre-orders On PlayStation Are Xbox Games

Xbox's Multiplatform Strategy Makes More Sense Now!

Story Highlight
  • Previously, Sea of Thieves was the most pre-ordered game on the PSN Store.
  • The game is still at the top of the US PSN store, leaving behind the likes of Stellar Blade.
  • Adding Grounded to the list, four Xbox games are in the top 10 list.

Xbox’s multiplatform approach has led to doubts, concerns, and anger from the community. However, Microsoft seems to be on track to finding its much-desired success through the first four releases.

While Sea of Thieves was already the most pre-ordered PlayStation game not too long ago, the top 10 list is now filled with Xbox games. Four spots in the top 10 taken are taken by Microsoft’s titles.

Why it matters: These pre-orders signify that Phil Spencer and Xbox made the right call to bring live-service titles like Sea of Thieves over to PlayStation consoles.

Sea of Thieves was already beating games like Rise of the Ronin and MLB: The Show. Nearly a month later, it appears to have retained this spot, staying ahead of Destiny 2: The Final Shape.

Surprisingly, the game is even beating Stellar Blade, a PlayStation exclusive arriving next month. Grounded is trailing just behind Stellar Blade, with both Xbox games beating the much anticipated Elden Ring expansion.

It is important to note that multiple editions of Sea of Thieves are found in the top 10. Counting Grounded and these editions, 40% of the list is taken up by Microsoft‘s upcoming titles.

Sea of Thieves has received special attention for this platform, with Sony helping in the porting process. The Premium Edition also includes all content to ensure PlayStation fans get the complete experience from the beginning.

Grounded
Grounded Is The Third Most Pre-Ordered Game On The US PSN Store

This might be an indication that Xbox was wise to pursue a third-party approach. According to Phil Spencer, big titles like Starfield will be exempt from this push, but Microsoft could rethink its decision if the smaller games become major hits.

Grounded and Sea of Thieves land on PlayStation next month. Xbox seems to have picked the right timing to release these games on rival hardware, strategically positioning them to dominate the competition.
