Xbox Facing More Layoffs This Week After 1900 Job Cuts In January

Restructuring Plan Continues For Xbox!

Story Highlights
  • Microsoft seems to be going through various layoffs this week.
  • While the layoffs are impacting the entire company, Xbox employees have also reported job cuts.
  • The process is reportedly a part of Microsoft’s restructuring policy for more sustainable business.

It seems the unfortunate trend of layoffs in the gaming industry isn’t over yet. Microsoft made thousands of layoffs in multiple divisions of Xbox Game Studios not too long ago.

However, it seems that another wave of job cuts is here, and more employees will lose their jobs.

Why it matters: Ever since the Activision Blizzard deal, Microsoft hasn’t held its ground. The transaction was worth nearly $70 billion, and it seems the gaming giant is still struggling to deal with its aftershocks.

Xbox Studios Games
Xbox Game Studios has faced thousands of layoffs in recent months.

Back in May, a report suggested that amid part of their restructuring, Microsoft would lay off more employees in July. That report now seems to be correct, as the first wave has already begun. Tom Warren has suggested there will be even more this week.

Jessie took to Twitter to reveal that she had been eliminated from her job at Microsoft. The employee was part of the Xbox division and was on vacation when Microsoft informed her of the decision to let her go.

Since then, various other Microsoft employees have shared their thoughts on the situation. This time, the layoffs seem to be broader, impacting various roles at the tech giant.

Redfall Hi-Fi Rush
Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin were closed amid restructuring.

Microsft had been largely under fire after the closing of Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin. The gaming giant’s reputation could take a hit once again after these layoffs.

It is currently unclear how many employees have been impacted by the latest wave, but more information is expected as the situation develops. Needless to say, this isn’t a great look for the company.

Phil Spencer’s latest statement on these instances did not offer a response that was too satisfactory. The Xbox boss stated that he had to run a business and that making hard decisions was part of the job. Perhaps this is yet another instance of such a decision.
