Microsoft Seems To Be Pulling Xbox's Strings!

Story Highlight
  • Xbox has shut down many studios after acquiring them.
  • A former Xbox employee revealed that Xbox is no longer making such decisions.
  • They believe that the brand should now be more accurately known as Microsoft Gaming.

Ever since Xbox decided to release games on third-party platforms, many fans have been concerned about its future. Just when things seemed to be headed in the right direction, the gaming giant made another series of poor decisions.

According to sources, these decisions are being made by the bigger executives at Microsoft. It appears Xbox is no longer pulling the strings, and Microsoft has taken full control of the division.

Why it matters: Xbox has recently shut down fan-favorite studios, which may be a small sign of things to come.

Xbox Game Studios Closure
Xbox Game Studios Closures Started A Massive Controversy

IGN has revealed that it spoke to two former Xbox employees, who discussed the current state of the business. One employee stated that they had a lengthy conversation with various Xbox founders, and the conclusion they reached was far from encouraging.

We all came to the same conclusion: it’s no longer Xbox but Microsoft Gaming.

At this rate, Xbox could cease to exist as Microsoft prioritizes profitability above all else.

According to the executives, the brand is now too big for its own good. With thousands of people and Xbox ballooning into three major publishers after the addition of Bethesda and Activision, Microsoft may be forced to take drastic measures.

The executives believe that Phil Spencer alone is not to be blamed, though he certainly needs to be held accountable. They point to the decisions coming from the board, with the likes of Satya Nadella pulling the strings.

Anyhow, the situation is far from ideal. Xbox may want the best for its studios, but Microsoft is unlikely to compromise.

The executives also believe that the Activision merger was greenlit under different circumstances, but with Game Pass slowing down and console hardware underperforming, there is little hope for independent decisions from the higher-ups at Xbox.

Perhaps Satya Nadella and Amy Hood are to be blamed for the current situation. However, it does not change the fact that Xbox is slowly drifting away from its original purpose as a console manufacturer.

Despite the odds, the gaming giant seems confident in the upcoming showcase. Hopefully, this event will serve as a much-needed break for everyone at Microsoft.
