Nintendo Will Flood The Market With Switch 2 To Compete With PS6 In The Future!

Story Highlight
  • Industry analyst Hideki Yasuda predicts that Nintendo Switch 2 will sell 6 million units in the first quarter.
  • He also points out that PS5 sales are low compared to PS4 at the given time frame despite the latter selling well overall.
  • Yasuda notes that Nintendo is planning to flood the market with Switch 2 to compete with PS6 in the future.

If the sales and reception of the Nintendo Switch are anything to go by, its successor is expected to surpass all those milestones in the future. A lot of excitement aside, Switch 2 is also expected to be a much better handheld in general in terms of leaked specs.

Now, the renowned analyst Hideki Yasuda predicts that Switch 2 will sell 6 million units in its Q1, which is expected to be the second quarter of FY2025, provided the console launches in July this year. A lot of stock is being prepared at the moment.

Why it matters: Nintendo’s plan to release the Switch 2 in large numbers before the PS6 could give it an edge, with the handheld likely to sell extremely well.

Nintendo boss believes launching exclusive games for Switch 2 is paramount to its success.

In his report, Yasuda states that surpassing 6 million units would be an extraordinary figure, especially compared to the PS5’s 4.5 million sales in its first quarter.

The analyst also points out the disappointing sales of the PS5 compared to its progenitor in the same time frame; the current-gen console has still yet to catch up during its fifth year. Despite this, the console has been selling like hotcakes compared to Xbox.

Nintendo is also seemingly planning to overthrow the PS6 even before its launch by flooding the market with Switch 2 handhelds. The increased availability could ensure that Sony’s next-gen console cannot catch up.

Nintendo Switch 2 might also get a magnetic phone attachment to allow dual-screen gameplay.

Moreover, Yasuda notes that Nintendo is taking a risk by launching the Switch 2 outside the holiday season, challenging the belief that consoles sell best during that time.

Do you think Nintendo Switch 2 will sell over 6 million in only a single quarter? And will PlayStation 6 dominate the handheld in the future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
