Square Enix has been the topic of discussion for a while now. The gaming giant has made a name for itself over several decades with franchises like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. With a wide variety of Western and Japanese titles, the company has something for almost everybody.

However, Square Enix has now been making some changes, and the developer has started to focus more on their Japanese titles in recent years. This makes sense, given the success of Final Fantasy and other JRPG franchises. Additionally, Square Enix seems to be making financial changes company’s future company.

Recent Fiscal year report from the game developer revealed some new information. According to the information, Square Enix is now looking to sell stakes in its studios. This would present the perfect opportunity for potential buyers such as Sony.

A recent rumor discussed the possibility of Sony’s interest in the Japanese division of Square Enix. This did not appear shocking, given Sony’s history with the publisher. Going by this financial call, it seems like Sony’s involvement is all but inevitable. All signs are now pointing at some deal between the two gaming giants.

The timing is also exciting because Xbox is looking closer than ever to completing the Activision Blizzard acquisition. However, other investors like Tencent could also be interested in Square Enix. Tencent has expressed interest in developers like Ubisoft, and it would not be too far-fetched to imagine their interest in Square Enix.

Moreover, the financial call revealed that Square Enix would be more selective with game development. This would mean that the developer will not take too many risks like Marvel’s Avengers and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy shortly. It seems like the developer is interested in sticking with Japanese titles for some time.

Fans will undoubtedly be curious to see how things turn out for Square Enix. Despite the disappointment at the recent news about Crystal Dynamics and Eidos, the developer has a lot of potential for future releases.

Sony is shaping up to be the most significant player in this situation. Final Fantasy 16 is already confirmed to be a timed exclusive for PlayStation, and future Square Enix releases could see a similar fate if a potential acquisition goes through.
