Spider-Man 2 is all too familiar with major game award nominations. Having been nominated for seven categories at The Game Awards 2024, this title ended up returning from the event without a single victory.
However, a month later, Insomniac Games could be on its way to redemption. With the DICE Awards coming up next month, the developer’s latest title has been featured in nine categories, including Game of the Year.
Why it matters: The DICE Awards have existed for over two decades, making them a major part of the industry.
In total, 56 games made it to the various categories at the DICE Awards, including the usual favorites like Baldur’s Gate 3, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and more.
Despite its failure at The Game Awards, Spider-Man 2 is leading the nominations at the DICE Awards. The game has been picked in categories like Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, Outstanding Technical Achievement, and more.
Unlike The Game Awards, these picks come directly from developers and people involved in the industry. Therefore, different perspectives and priorities might lead to interesting results next month.
Baldur’s Gate 3, last year’s unanimous Game of the Year, is also doing well. However, it falls behind Alan Wake 2, which secured 8 nominations to finish in second place after Remedy Entertainment made a name for itself in the horror genre.

Many fans were previously disappointed after Spider-Man 2 failed to gain notable recognition for its achievements.
While the game broke records for PlayStation in terms of commercial success, its excellence in other departments has been somewhat overshadowed due to similarities with its predecessor.
However, with a clear lead over other titles at the DICE Awards, Spider-Man 2 should be able to win in a few categories, possibly winning Game of the Year, much to everyone’s surprise.
The official results will be announced on 15 February during the 2024 DICE Summit held in Las Vegas.
