Russo Brothers Open to New Avengers Game, Teaming Up with Fortnite’s Creator This Time

A Tie-In Avengers Game Sounds Exciting.

Story Highlight
  • Despite Marvel’s Avengers’ poor launch, a new game based on the superhero team game remains possible.
  • The Russo brothers have expressed interest in developing an Avengers game.
  • With Donald Mustard, creator of Fortnite working alongside, an Avengers game is looking definitely possible in the future.

Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers was the beginning of superhero games’ downfall. The game’s demise was caused by a lack of content due to the live-service model. The failure was so terrible that Square Enix delisted it from all platforms.

Coming from this terrible failure, Avengers still has a chance to be assembled for another AAA game. The directors for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film have now stated that they’re open to making an Avengers game.

Why it matters: Marvel characters have already found considerable success in the gaming world recently. Just one failure won’t stop the Avengers, one of the biggest superhero teams, from making a mark in the gaming world.

In an interview with Variety, the Russo brothers were asked about the possibility of developing tie-in games for upcoming Marvel Avengers movies.

We would definitely be open to it.

The Russo brothers recently helped develop a mobile game based on the Electric State movie through their independent media company, AGBO. While the Cosmo Kid game is a mobile title featuring retro-style gameplay, the possibility of a AAA project in the future isn’t ruled out completely.

Moreover, they also stated that Donald Mustard, Fortnite’s creator, is also at the media company’s helm and will significantly help with their storytelling across video games.

With rival comic-book publisher DC planning to create tie-in video games with their upcoming cinematic universe, it seems Marvel will also be following suit.

With The Russo’s storytelling and guidance and Donald Mustard’s experience with video game development, their joint effort for an Avengers game would be groundbreaking. While such a project isn’t currently in the works, their focus towards gaming definitely suggests an approach sooner or later.
