- Nvidia’s CEO claimed that the RTX 5070 will offer performance similar to the 4090.
- The former is priced at only $549, while the latter costs $1499.
- Due to the massive price difference, this bold claim sparked debate on many social media platforms, but it has been clarified that the 5070 won’t be able to beat the 4090 without DLSS4 multi-frame generation.
Nvidia has officially unveiled the 5000 series, and it seems that AI will be the future. The hardware upgrades from the previous generation are limited, as most focus went into AI, leading to the development of multi-frame generation.
There have been some talks going on in the industry that the RTX 5070 will have a similar or maybe even better performance than the RTX 4090, even though it is priced at only $549.
While Nvidia’s CEO made this claim that the 5070 would have a similar performance to the 4090, fans weren’t convinced, and it started a debate. However, we finally have some answers, as the graphics card can’t beat RTX 4090 without utilizing multi-frame generation.
Why it matters: Nvidia dived headfirst into the whole AI thing, and now it is proving itself to the world. There is a reason why it is the second most valuable company in the world.
Fans have been constantly asking this question on different social media platforms: can a $549 card really give the same performance as a $1499 card? The answer should be pretty obvious, but AI is a scary thing.
The fake frames that come from the DLSS 4 multi-frame generation are the main reason why there is a performance similarity; otherwise, the hardware difference is huge.
The Verge has conducted a thorough report on the matter as it has interviewed the senior technical product manager at Nvidia, Lars Weinand. He explained that even though through neural rendering and DLSS 4, the RTX 5070 can match the performance of the RTX 4090, it can’t beat it in every single configuration.
Using neural rendering and DLSS 4, we can reach performance levels [on an RTX 5070] that were only possible with an RTX 4090. This does not mean that the RTX 5070 can beat an RTX 4090 in every single way and in every single configuration.
-Lars Weinand
This isn’t a surprise, as Nvidia isn’t going to offer a card for $549 with better hardware than one that costs $1499. So, while there may be similar performance, you will not see RTX 4090 level of rasterization.
Also, if a game doesn’t support the DLSS 4, the difference in performance will be pretty obvious to you. DLSS 3 helps generate a new image using frame generation every time a new image is rendered.
On the other hand, DLSS 4 utilizes multi-frame generation, which helps generate 3 additional frames for every rendered frame. The DLSS 4, as of now, is a mystery as it is said to “predicts the future.” It might just shock the fandom even more in the coming months.
