New Single-Player Batman Game From Rocksteady?

Story Highlight
  • Rocksteady is apparently developing a new open-world and a third-person action game, as suggested by a new job ad.
  • The ad posted by Warner Games further adds to the rumors about a new Batman game in development by Rocksteady.
  • This new single-player Batman game is expected to be the canceled Batman Beyond project.

WB Games clearly missed the mark with its multi-million-dollar live-service project, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It led to colossal failure and layoffs for the studios involved. Now, WB is possibly trying to backpaddle by working on a project players actually want.

Rocksteady Studios has published a new job listing seeking a Game Director for a new AAA open-world and third-person action game. This listing has further solidified rumors that Rocksteady might really be working on a single-player Batman title.

Why it matters: The failure of the Suicide Squad game might have finally pushed Warner Games to pursue another single-player Batman project. The requirements stated in the new ad listing further confirm these notions.

Rocksteady Studios is seeking a new game director for its new open-world action entry.

We found the first mentions of the AAA title by Rocksteady, confirming rumors that the studio was working on an unannounced game after Suicide Squad. It is seemingly quite early in development, per the Production Director listing.

Strong design leadership and experience across multiple genres, particularly Third-Person Action, Melee Brawlers, and Open WorlD Traversal games.

The job posting also lists requirements like ‘melee brawlers’ and ‘open-world traversal,’ both important elements in Batman: Arkham games. At the moment, Rocksteady is rumored to be working on its canceled Batman Beyond game.

Batman From Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League
The Suicide Squad game also retconned Batman’s death, adding more strength to rumors about a Batman game.

Despite all the sprawling speculations and insider reports, Rocksteady has not officially confirmed its next project in any capacity. We may learn more about this game as the year progresses, so take the rumor mill with a pinch of salt.

Do you think Rocksteady is working on a new Batman open-world AAA entry next, or is it too early to confirm these rumors? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
