Red Dead Redemption has just been made available to PS4 owners for the first time in nearly a decade, and the popular release is no longer limited to Xbox and PS3 consoles.
Prior to its release, the game had reached the top spot on PlayStation’s list of trending games. This was considered a subtle hint at the game’s upcoming success, which is now reflected in the list of top-selling PS4 titles.
As reported by Ben, Red Dead Redemption has become the best-selling game on PS4.
Why it matters: The recent port announcement received backlash for its $50 price point and the lack of added features like 60FPS gameplay, leading to speculation that it would not be well received.
After a mere 24 hours of release, Red Dead Redemption is currently the Best Selling title for PS4.
It’s also the top third title in the UK. Performance is very strong for its launch period. pic.twitter.com/0oflKYxPC7

This launch performance puts Red Dead Redemption above games like Fifa 23. The tweet also confirms that the port is performing well in regions like the UK, outselling several popular titles on PlayStation.
Take-Two’s latest financial report stated that the IP has sold nearly 80 million units in total. Of the 80 million sales, 24 million can be attributed to the original Red Dead Redemption.
With the game being available to more people than ever, this figure is expected to increase sharply in the coming months. Apart from the PS4 release, the Nintendo Switch port also brings the game to a massive audience of nearly 130 million users.
Red Dead Redemption became the subject of outrage and criticism due to its $50 price tag, but Take-Two believes the game was priced appropriately.
While players can disagree with the value and price of the port on consoles, it has become an undeniable success for Take-Two and may go on to inspire a wave of new ports for games like GTA 4.
