Also Among Steam Best-Sellers!

Story Highlights
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 is still selling very well for a five-year-old game.
  • Thanks to a new sale, it has climbed to the top of Steam’s charts again, beating games like Hogwarts Legacy and EA Sports FC.
  • Following the sales, the game has also seen its new all-time peak, with over 73K players.

Red Dead Redemption is one of the most beloved Rockstar IPs, and while the latest title in the franchise was released over years ago, it is still reaching new milestones for this series.

Recently, Take-Two confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 sold over 57 million units in just five years, and the franchise has crossed over 81 million sales, becoming Rockstar’s second biggest franchise.

Less than a month after this milestone, the title has returned to Steam’s top sellers with a new all-time peak on Steam.

Why it matters: This is not the first time Red Dead Redemption 2 has outshined the competition, highlighting that it is one of modern gaming’s most unique and popular offerings.

At the time of writing, over 66K players are currently enjoying the title, and in the last 24 hours, the game has been played by over 73K players, which has also become the new all-time peak for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Though the game has an average of 50K players, the recent sale has attracted many more players to try the game, and for the first time since January, it has gathered over 73K players.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently the best-selling game on Steam. However, it should also be noted that free-to-play titles like Counter-Strike 2 are not part of this list.

A major reason for its current popularity is the Autumn Sale on Steam. Till 28 November, a number of games on the storefront are discounted, and this title is also selling at a 67% discount.

While other games are also on sale, Red Dead Redemption 2 has beaten more recent releases like Hogwarts Legacy and EA Sports FC 24. The former had the biggest Steam launch of Steam, in 2023, earlier this year.

Other popular games like Cyberpunk 2077 are just behind this Rockstar title, showing that PC players are still quite fond of Red Dead Redemption 2 for its narrative, open world, and more.

Despite this admiration and support from the fans, Rockstar has not done much to keep the game fresh. Instead, the studio has focused most of its efforts on GTA Online and GTA 5 support.

Recently, a petition was made for Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC, which reached nearly 12K signatures, showing the demand for more content. Similarly, players on consoles have been asking the studio to release a 60FPS update for the longest time.

Amid this success, Rockstar is currently working on the next GTA title. GTA 6 will be shown off in December, but the studio could revisit Red Dead Redemption after this entry.

Still, another potential entry is likely to be many years away since GTA 6 is the studio’s biggest priority for now.
