2 Million Units Sold Last Quarter!

Story Highlights
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to reach new milestones.
  • The game has sold over 57 million units, selling an additional 2 million copies last quarter.
  • This brings the total franchise sales up to 81 million.

Take-Two Interactive has just released its latest earnings report, providing more details about its previous games.

In addition to updated sales figures for Grand Theft Auto, NBA 2K, and more, Rockstar’s parent company has confirmed a new milestone for Red Dead Redemption 2.

According to Take-Two, the game continues to grow, selling over 57 million units.

Why it matters: The fact that this title from Rockstar continues to do so well five years later highlights the developer’s excellent storytelling abilities and proficiency in creating open-world games.

Looking at past figures, Red Dead Redemption 2 sold over 55 million units last quarter. Therefore, the game has sold an additional 2 million copies in the last three months.

It is important to note that, unlike various modern games, this entry has not received an update for new consoles. While a 60FPS update was rumored for a while, Rockstar has shown no signs of revisiting the game.

The lack of an update makes these sales figures even more impressive since gamers continue to play the title despite Rockstar’s refusal to utilize the current-gen consoles to their full extent.

Nonetheless, the updated sales figures have pushed the entire franchise beyond 81 million units. The studio also released PS4 and Nintendo Switch ports of Red Dead Redemption in August, but no sales figures have been provided for these versions.

Still, the port was seen at the top of best-sellers charts on various occasions, so it likely contributed to the overall franchise sales.

Alan Wake 2 Red Dead Redemption Remaster

We are glad to see Red Dead Redemption 2 doing so well after all this time. The game absolutely deserves all the praise it receives, and these sales figures provide more evidence that Rockstar’s open-world game design is unparalleled in the industry.

While Red Dead Redemption 2 spent a lot of time in the spotlight as Rockstar’s latest title, the studio is gearing up to pass the mantle on to GTA 6. To everyone’s shock, this game was just confirmed earlier today, and the developer is looking to showcase the first trailer next month.
