PS5 Now Leading Over PS4 Sales In US For The First 29 Months

Finally Leading Over The PS4!

Sony’s latest console has no shortage of milestones and achievements in 2023. The PS5 continues to impress with sales across different regions, recently growing over 369% in Europe year on year.

This is in addition to the console’s impressive performance in regions like Japan. A recent analysis report from Circana reveals yet another milestone for the PS5. According to the data, the PS5 has surpassed PS4 hardware sales in the US during a similar 29-month time frame.

This shows the latest console has seen much more demand than the PS4, at least in the US.

During the last generation, Microsoft had the upper hand coming into the generation with the Xbox 360 becoming a massive hit worldwide. On the other hand, the PS3 proved less popular than previous PlayStation consoles, and Sony was looking to revitalize the PlayStation brand with the PS4.

While Microsoft’s poor decisions with the Xbox One provided a significant advantage to the PS4, Sony had much to prove for owners who had already invested in the Xbox eco-system.

However, this was not the case with the PS5. By the end of the last generation, Sony had cemented the PS4 as the leading console and the latest hardware continued this momentum.

With exclusive games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarok coming to the PS5, the demand for the console was higher than ever before. However, the PS5 had its own hurdles.

For the more significant part of its lifecycle, the PS5 faced stock shortages. Recently, PlayStation has sorted out these issues, but the console has likely suffered due to the supply chain issues seen over the last two years.

Despite the supply issues, the PS5 has managed to outpace the PS4, while the latter had no such issues during the first 29 months.

As of January, the PS5 had sold over 30 million consoles. At its current pace, Sony’s latest console could be on its way to becoming one of the best-performing consoles from the gaming giant so far.
