PS5 Dominates Black Friday Week, Accounts For 62% Total Sales In The UK And 47% In The US

Sony Sold A Lot Of PS5s During Black Friday Despite The RAM Shortage!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation 5 absolutely dominated Black Friday week when compared against Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2.
  • In the US, Sony’s console accounted for 47% of total sales, with Switch 2 securing 24% and NEX Playground at 14%.
  • It also rolled over 62% of all console sales in the UK, while Switch 2 managed 23% and Xbox only 10%.

The winter holiday season is one of the busiest times for the gaming industry, with many games launching during this time. Console makers take full advantage of Black Friday, selling their units at appealing prices to attract new customers and drive revenue.

But 2025 has been an anomaly due to a significant memory shortage that has driven up its prices, which in part is affecting PCs and consoles alike. However, Sony’s PS5 remains unaffected, dominating Black Friday Week over Xbox and Nintendo in the US and the UK.

Why it matters: Sony selling more PS5s at a decent discount during Black Friday week shows that Sony has enough stock to have no immediate concerns about the memory shortage, which is a good thing for gamers.

PS5 sold the most units across the UK and the US during Black Friday Week.

In the US, notable analyst Mat Piscatella reveals that PS5 secured over 47% of total Black Friday week console unit sales. Nintendo Switch 2 ranked second with 24% sales. Xbox failed to appear in the top 3, as NEX Playground occupied it with 14% of units sold.

In the UK, analyst Christopher Dring of The Game Business reports that PS5 dominated Black Friday week by accounting for over 62% of all hardware units sold. Switch 2 managed to roll over 23%, while Xbox took a 10% cut from the pie.

To put things into perspective, PS5’s unit sales in the UK were 16% higher than last year’s Black Friday week. The average price of a PS5 was £340 during the deal, which is reportedly only the seventh time it’s been less than £400.

PS5s sold like hotcakes on sale during the Black Friday week!

Past reports revealed that Xbox Series X|S could get another price hike due to the ongoing RAM shortage, as its stock is said to be running out. This could explain the console’s relatively poorer sales during the Black Friday week.

However, Microsoft’s decision to ramp up console production for the GTA 6 launch in Vietnam could circumvent this dilemma.

Do you think the PS5 selling more units than the Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 on Black Friday highlights its grip on the console market? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
