Its The End of Line For PlayStation Single-Player Games on PC!

Story Highlight
  • PS CEO, in a recent Town Hall meeting, confirmed the shift away from multiplatform.
  • All of Sony’s narrative-driven single-player games will now be PlayStation exclusive.
  • This seems like a step to avoid their game library on the upcoming Steam Machine.

PlayStation kicked off its multiplatform strategy back in 2020 with Horizon Zero Dawn. For quite some time, it remained quite successful and has reportedly generated a $300 million in 3 years, which are very decent numbers.

However, recently the company started removing mention of PC from its ecosystem. And now the CEO has confirmed that first-party single-players will now be PlayStation exclusive, shifting focus away from multiplatform.

Why it matters: It was revealed that PC ports are relatively inexpensive to produce, so this comes down to the fact that the Steam Machine is launching soon, and Sony must not want its games on the competing hardware.

PlayStation CEO has informed staff they’re turning back to single-player exclusives

According to a report from Bloomberg, CEO Herman Hulst informed in a recent meeting that the company’s narrative-driven single-player titles will now be PlayStation exclusive, unlike what the case was in the last few years.

Since the Steam Machine obviously has the full Steam library, it would mean that all PlayStation games, as well as the entirety of Steam, would be present on Valve’s hardware, which could make it a big competition.

PlayStation went completely multiplatform in the last few years

PlayStation fans have been asking this for a long time now. In fact, in a recent poll, over 70% voted in favor of scaling back on the ports. Interestingly, most PC players don’t really care about Sony games on the platform either.
