Palworld Now Steam’s 3rd Biggest Game With 1.58 Million Players

Sold 86,000 Units Each Hour During The Weekend!

Story Highlights
  • Palworld surprised everyone after launch as it quickly became a major highlight of 2024.
  • The game has already sold over 5 million units.
  • It has also reached nearly 1.6 million concurrent players on Steam.
  • This feat makes Palworld the platform’s 3rd biggest game.

It is not a surprise anymore that Palworld is continuously breaking records every few hours. At release, the game reached 370K players, which was a huge surprise for many. Following this launch, the title sold 2 million units in just 24 hours.

Despite no real hint of anticipation before release, Palworld crossed 1 million concurrent players on Steam after this sales record. With the game entering its fourth day on the market, it has broken another record, becoming Steam’s third-biggest release.

Why it matters: Palworld was initially written off as nothing more than a Pokemon clone. However, the game is proving quite the rival to this franchise.

The title now boasts nearly 1.6 million peak concurrent players. This result puts Palworld far ahead of critically acclaimed games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, and even Cyberpunk 2077.

Palworld is also the second-paid game on the platform to reach such results, falling just behind PUBG, which reached over 3.2 million concurrent players during the boom of battle royale games.

While this indie hit seems to be slowing down, it has shattered expectations time and again. At this rate, we fully expect to see it reach 2 million concurrent players on Steam by tomorrow.

Since its launch, Palworld has dominated the gaming industry and its discussions. Everyone is either playing the game, reading about it, or discussing its potential impact on future Pokemon games.

The multiplayer title is also available on Game Pass, yet players prefer buying it on Steam. Considering the influence of this subscription, Palworld probably had 2 million concurrent players across all platforms combined at some point.

According to Pocketpair, the game sold 86K units per hour over the weekend.

The game’s decision to portray obvious similarities with Pokemon was initially controversial but has paid off in the long run.

Pokemon’s popularity is undeniable, and it seems Palworld’s approach to this series has been one that fans want from Game Freak and Nintendo. It also shows that Pokemon itself has a major market on PC should it ever be released on the platform.

Palworld stands tall above every major release of 2023, and it seems unlikely for any other game to boast similar results this year.

Hogwarts Legacy, Starfield, and more are much further behind, highlighting the gaming industry’s willingness to try unique and fresh ideas, even if they come from smaller teams.
