PlayStation Reportedly Set to Hold Second State of Play in May 2026 Following February Event

Story Highlight
  • Insider mentions another PlayStation State of Play happening in May 2026.
  • This is just 3 months after the recent February event.
  • Expect a plethora of first-party game reveals and updates at the event.

SIE just held a PlayStation State of Play event a couple of days ago, spanning 60 minutes with various reveals and game updates. However, the standout reveal at the event was the announcement of the God of War trilogy remake and the new shadowdropped God of War metroidvania game.

Now, the gaming giant is reportedly planning another event soon. A reliable insider expects a second PlayStation State of Play in May 2026, where we may learn more about their upcoming first-party games.

Why it matters: PlayStation’s first-party slate has been relatively drier compared to past generations. Moreover, their upcoming announced titles have no follow-up details, so we expect to learn more about them at the event.

PlayStation Still Has A Lot More To Show In 2026 || ResetEra

In a ResetEra thread, reliable insider Shinobi602 mentioned the possibility of Cory Barlog’s new project appearing at the upcoming gaming showcase, and also noted that Sony is planning a second State of Play event in May.

It’s a surprise to see Sony pairing 2 events so closely, with only around 3 months between. It makes sense, however, since there are many SIE projects we didn’t hear about during the February event.

As such, expect the May State of Play to lean towards first-party projects. As mentioned above, Cory Barlog is developing a new game in addition to the God of War remakes, which are expected to be revealed soon.

Marvel’s Wolverine also has yet to announce a final release date, and we can hope to learn more about Insomniac’s project then, since the release is now just months away, scheduled in Fall.

If we’re lucky, Naughty Dog can drop a development update for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, although that seems unlikely considering the release is still far off.

Lastly, Take-Two CEO did mention that GTA 6 marketing will kick off in the summer season and with the rumors suggesting that they have a partnership with PlayStation for the game’s marketing, expect Trailer 3 to drop at the event even if the May period is technically spring.

Other than that, naturally, there will be third-party reveals and updates at the event too.

Sony Now Leasing PS5 Consoles With No Upfront Cost, Starting at Just £9.85 Per Month

Story Highlight
  • Sony has partnered with Raylo to offer leased PS5 consoles for as little as £9.85 per month.
  • This agreement is available for 12-36 months.
  • It will be viable for PC gamers seeking a console for a short term or when GTA 6 launches later this year as a console-only release.

Rising inflation and increased component costs have made buying new hardware practically impossible for many. Fortunately, Sony is now offering customers the opportunity to lease PS5 consoles at a relatively low price.

With no upfront costs, gamers can now grab a PS5 console for as little as £9.85 per month, with a cancellable plan available anytime, lasting either 12 or 36 months.

Why it matters: This makes things incredibly easy for gamers who can’t pay full price for a console, as they can now enjoy the latest offerings from Sony at just a fraction of the cost with a small monthly fee.

This deal is powered by Raylo, and currently, they offer multiple deals as shown above.

As shown above, this deal also covers accessories like the PlayStation Portal, DualSense bundles, PSVR 2, and more. Moreover, users also get a delivery on the second day after their purchase.

It is notable to mention that this is just a rental agreement, and users should not expect to get ownership of the console at the end of the payment schedule, nor a contribution towards the console’s original price.

This deal is only available to UK customers. Other than that, a similar program is available in Japan, but it’s slightly more expensive. Nevertheless, Japanese customers have shown some serious interest in this offer, as it became super popular in the country.

Even though this UK deal has been in place for nearly a year, PlayStation has recently begun promoting it. With the upcoming release of GTA 6 later this year, which is expected to be a console exclusive launch, expect tons of players to jump into this lease offer just to play the biggest video game launch of all time.

AC Black Flag Remake Could Still Release In 2026, Official Reveal Reportedly Coming Soon

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft is reportedly preparing to reveal AC Black Flag Resynced in April this year.
  • The marketing efforts are beginning soon, suggesting that it will still launch in 2026.
  • The official reveal will likely include a teaser trailer to confirm the game’s existence officially.

Ubisoft has undergone a massive and devastating restructuring recently, which saw its internal structure being divided into several creative houses focused on popular IPs. It also caused the Black Flag remake to be allegedly delayed by up to a year from its original release.

So, many gamers expected that the game’s official confirmation would start much later in 2026. However, that’s seemingly not the case.

Ubisoft is already preparing for an official reveal of Black Flag Resynced. The remake is expected to be announced sometime in April 2026.

Why it matters: If the marketing is starting as early as the rumors suggest, the AC Black Flag remake could be launching in the beginning months of Ubisoft’s upcoming fiscal year, which begins in April 2026 and ends on March 31st, 2027.

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Remake
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced will have more RPG elements than the original.

This tidbit comes from Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw, an insider with a credible track record in the industry. The remake’s marketing will begin when Ubisoft’s next fiscal year starts in April, which suggests that its release might still happen during the later months of 2026.

It was seemingly meant to launch in the early months of 2026, but the situation quickly devolved after the earlier Ubisoft shake-up.

AC Black Flag Remake is Ubisoft’s worst-kept secret, with a recent rating practically confirming its existence after multiple leaks over the past few months. While it survived the purge, a reveal will assure fans that it is actually still officially moving forward.

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Remake
The game will also reportedly feature cut story content.

For those not in the know, the remake is reportedly closer to AC Shadows than the original. It features a slew of new RPG mechanics, but Ubisoft is reportedly avoiding going overboard with them after facing criticism when the initial leaks came out last year.

Do you think Ubisoft is going to reveal Assassin’s Creed Black Flag in April, considering the game was allegedly delayed to the next fiscal year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Pearl Abyss Is Planning To Add A Multiplayer Mode To Crimson Desert If The Game Ends Up Selling Well

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert could get a multiplayer mode after launch if the game is a commercial success, says Pearl Abyss.
  • The studio also has DLC plans if the player demand is there post-release.
  • The title originally started as an MMO, but then shifted to a single-player adventure in 2020.

Crimson Desert has caught the attention of players around the globe thanks to its massive open world. The Pearl Abyss title is expected to have a map double the size of games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Skyrim, with countless activities for players to get lost in.

Despite its enormous scale, however, Crimson Desert doesn’t have a co-op system that will let players enjoy the title with their friends. But, if the action-adventure title turns out to be a success, Pearl Abyss will correct this deficiency.

Why It Matters: A co-op system for a massive open-world game like Crimson Desert is a no-brainer, as players would love to explore the layered map with friends.

Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert was originally meant to be an MMO.

According to the Pearl Abyss Q4 earnings report, the studio will add a multiplayer mode to Crimson Desert if the game ends up selling well. In addition, the developer also has plans to release downloadable content for the title in case the player demand is there post-launch.

Considering how Crimson Desert started as an MMO before changing creative direction in 2020, this feels like a natural evolution for the game. The developer has been focused on perfecting the single-player aspect of the title, putting the multiplayer elements on the back burner for now.

In the earnings call, the studio also disclosed that Crimson Desert took so long to complete because the BlackSpace engine was also in development alongside the title. However, with the technology now ready, the studio’s next game will have an accelerated production time.

Crimson Desert
The game’s main story alone will take 80 hours to complete.

Regardless of the development cycle, Pearl Abyss is serving a treat for gamers in the form of Crimson Desert, with the title containing so much content that even the developer hasn’t figured out how long it will take to beat.

Do you think Crimson Desert will fulfill its potential at launch or falter to meet the high expectations set by the developer? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Resident Evil Could Get Annual Entries Until 2030 as Resident Evil 10 Eyes 2029 Launch

Story Highlight
  • Insider Dusk Golem suggests that RE 10 is targeting a 2029 launch.
  • This means that we’ll be getting annual releases in the franchise until 2030.
  • However, things are subject to change if Capcom decides to delay or push these projects.

Capcom has been full-throttling Resident Evil releases in the past few years or so, ever since they soft-rebooted the franchise with 2017’s Resident Evil 7. Building on that success, they’ve been revisiting older entries, giving them the remake treatment for a new audience.

Now, the publisher’s schedule through 2030 is to release annual titles, according to an insider, who also claims that the next mainline entry, Resident Evil 10, is planned for 2029.

Why it matters: There isn’t a better time to be a fan of the horror game genre, as both prominent franchises, Resident Evil and Silent Hill, are getting annual releases.

What’s Next For The RE Franchise || X

This news comes from Dusk Golem, a prominent Resident Evil leaker with a solid track record of accurate leaks, including Leon’s role in Resident Evil Requiem.

This year, we’re getting Resident Evil Requiem, starring Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy as leads, followed by a DLC expansion that is currently in development. After that, Code Veronica remake is next in line, which was previously reported to target a Q1 2027 release.

Resident Evil Requiem Leon
RE Requiem Will Feature Different Playstyles: Horror For Leon And Survival For Grace

Beyond that, the next remake would be Resident Evil 0, now planned for 2028. After that, Capcom will launch the next mainline release, Resident Evil 10, which is likely to be titled differently as development progresses.

This means we’ll have back-to-back Resident Evil releases until 2030. That is, the schedule is subject to change, and these titles may be delayed if development challenges arise or due to other factors.

Santa Monica Developing Another Project Beyond God of War Trilogy Remake — Reveal Expected This Year

Story Highlight
  • Santa Monica has another project to showcase for this year, seperate from God of War remake trilogy.
  • The title is led by Cory Barlog and has been rumored to be in development for 7+ years.
  • A reveal could take place during the summer season of video game showcases.

It has now been 4 years since Santa Monica dropped God of War: Ragnarök, seemingly ending the Norse saga. Now, the studio is working on several new projects, including a God of War trilogy remake announced at yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play, alongside a new spin-off 2.5 side-scroller game that was shadowdropped after the event.

This may not be all that Santa Monica has to show for. Reliable insider reveals that the studio has another project to showcase, and it could be shown soon, sometimes later this year.

Why it matters: Santa Monica Studio was previously known for working on a single project at a time, but now, the developers are working on multiple other games.

Santa Monica Has Another Surprise For Fans This Year || ResetEra

In a new ResetEra thread, insider shinobi602 stated that the new God of War trilogy remake isn’t the secret project that Cory Barlog has been working on. Furthermore, he added that the announcement for the project is coming soon in the upcoming months, around the summer season of video game showcases.

It is notable to mention that the insider did add that the current schedule is for a reveal this year unless the release gets delayed or SIE decides on a shorter reveal to release window.

More Details On Cory’s Upcoming Title || ResetEra

For reference, this new IP has been under development for more than 7 years now, and it’s a familiar IP from Santa Monica, and not a new one. Previously, Jason Schreier stated that this isn’t a new IP, but it will seem like it.

At this point, it’s just speculation what that project is, but it could very likely be a Atreus led God of War game. Kratos is already getting a trilogy remake so it would be the right move to give Atreus his own lead project.

At the same time, it could be a title entirely unrelated to the God of War franchise. Whatever that may be, we hope to learn soon enough.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Bags 5 Wins At The DICE Awards Including The GOTY

Story Highlight
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was nominated in 8 categories at the 29th DICE Awards.
  • It managed to win in 5 categories and even bagged the Game of the Year trophy.
  • This is the game’s 495th GOTY win, extending its lead at the top of the list.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 just can’t seem to take a break from winning every possible award. It recently set the record for the most Game of the Year award wins by any game to date, and it’s now extending that lead even further.

The 29th DICE Awards were another triumphant affair for Sandfall Interactive as Expedition 33 bagged 5 wins, including the prestigious GOTY title. This puts the game’s total tally to a whopping 495 GOTY accolades.

Why it matters: Expedition 33 has cemented its place in the history books, especially due to the fact that it was up against massive teams and titles that had multiple times higher budgets than Sandfall’s RPG.

Exp33 DICE GOTY
Expedition 33 won the GOTY accolade at the DICE Awards

Expedition 33 was the most nominated game at the DICE Awards with 8 nominations, and managed to win 5 of those. Altogether it won:

  • Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction
  • Outstanding Achievement in Story
  • Role-Playing Game of the Year
  • Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction
  • Game of the Year

This was once again a near clean sweep, but some other competitors deservedly came out on top. Other big winners of the night include Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, Hades 2, and ARC Raiders.

The title nearly had a perfect review score from every major outlet

Notably, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was once again snubbed as it couldn’t win any of its 3 nominations. The game developers showed their disappointment before, and will have similar sentiments now as well.

Anyhow, Expedition 33 has been a wild ride for Sandfall. The studio has stated multiple times that it didn’t expect the game to be this successful. It has outshone AAA games and emerged in the history records.

An MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Erupts in Literal Flames During First System Boot

Story Highlight
  • MSI GeForce RTX 5090 literally catches fire on first system boot.
  • This issue was unrelated to the previous power issues, and the GPU itself seems to be the culprit.
  • The system works fine when switched to a secondary GPU.

The Blackwell GPU lineup from Nvidia launched with all sorts of problem but the biggest one was melting connectors, thanks to the 16-pin connector. However, one user was even more unlucky: his flagship Nvidia GPU literally caught fire during the first boot.

On Bilibili, the user posted a video of their MSI GeForce RTX 5090 erupting in flames during the system’s first boot, after which the system shut down.

Why it matters: There have been far too many cases of RTX 50-Series GPUs dying due to power issues, and Nvidia should’ve been more cautious about testing these cards before launch, which is disappointing given they’re the largest company in the world.

rtx 5090 fire
A Close Look At The Incident

The fire appeared in multiple locations on the card, except at the connector. It’s highly possible that there was a short circuit in the VRAM area, as the user themselves suggests.

Fortunately, they captured the system’s first boot, primarily as a precaution in case something goes wrong. Unfortunately, this was the worst-case scenario that anyone could’ve expected.

The user confirmed this is an issue with the RTX 5090, as his system worked fine with his second GPU, an RTX 5060. That said, their motherboard did get burn marks from the GPU catching fire.

Fortunately, the rest of the system was marked safe from this incident

Moreover, he was running a 1300W PSU with the original cables, which should be more than sufficient for even the highest-end systems.

Since the user is based in China, they cannot request an RMA because the RTX 5090 is not sold in that country, except for a couple of variants. The user does plan to contact the seller for repair, though.

Silent Hill Townfall Becomes The Latest Title To Skip Xbox At Launch

Story Highlight
  • Konami just revealed a first look at the upcoming Silent Hill Townfall.
  • The title has become yet another instance of a major title snubbing an Xbox release.
  • Even the Silent Hill 2 Remake was a timed exclusive at launch, and will be released this year on Xbox.

Konami is really committed to the Silent Hill franchise. After finding success with the remake and Silent Hill f, it is set to launch the next game in the franchise this year. However, Xbox users might have to wait for it.

We got our first proper look at the creepy Silent Hill Townfall yesterday. The title looks promising, but Xbox users won’t be getting it at launch, as it doesn’t mention the platform anywhere for now.

Why it matters: Silent Hill 2 Remake too skipped the Xbox launch, but Silent Hill f made its way to Team Green, which made many believe that Townfall would also be a day 1 release.

Silent Hill Skipping Xbox
Silent Hill Townfall’s official doesn’t mention Xbox at all

If we head over to the Silent Hill website, it says that Townfall will be available on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Epic Games Store, with no mention of Xbox, highlighting that it skips the release at launch.

This trend is somewhat picking up pace. Companies don’t really prefer launching games on Xbox as it costs them extra to optimize, and since sales aren’t as high as PS5, they don’t really generate much revenue, so they skip the port.

silent hill 2 maria
Silent Hill 2 Remake still hasn’t made its way over to Xbox

Other major games have also recently snubbed Xbox. Death Stranding 2 was announced for PC, with Xan box release still not in sight. Only now, around 2 years since launch, Silent Hill 2 Remake is getting an Xbox port.

This is worrying for Xbox, considering it is planning to launch its next-gen console. But the situation could be different as it will be a hybrid console and is expected to feature multiple storefronts, including Epic Games.

God of War Sons of Sparta 2D Metroidvania Announced; Available Today on PS5

Story Highlight
  • God of War: Sons of Sparta has just been announced as a brand new entry in the franchise.
  • The game strays away from the typical action approach of the series and goes for a 2D approach with platforming.
  • Sony has also confirmed that this 2D God of War adventure launches today on PS5.

Rumors regarding a 2D God of War title have been making the rounds for a while. In addition to rumblings regarding the next mainline series entry, insiders previously suggested that a God of War Metroidvania would show up at today’s State of Play.

Lo and behold, Sony has delivered exactly what many were teasing ahead of the event. God of War: Sons of Sparta has officially been announced.

Why it matters: God of War sits at the top as one of PlayStation’s defining first-party IPs, so the gaming giant appears keen on expanding the franchise with different types of titles.

The debut trailer for God of War: Sons of Sparta confirms that the game revisits Kratos’ past and features his adventure along with Deimos, his younger brother.

According to the trailer, the title has been developed by both Mega Cat Studios and Sony Santa Monica, leading to a unique blend of platforming, combat, and mystical powers.

Kratos also sports a shield and spear this time around, facing off against all kinds of mystical creatures. Perhaps the best part about this announcement is the fact that fans don’t have to wait too long to actually play God of War: Sons of Sparta, since the game launches later today on PS5.

Of course, the State of Play also featured another huge God of War announcement in the form of a remake of the original Greek trilogy. Suffice it to say, fans of the series have much to look forward to.

What do you think about this announcement? Do you like the idea of a different type of God of War? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

God of War Trilogy Remake Officially Announced With Original Kratos Actor Reprising The Role

Story Highlight
  • Sony has announced a God of War Remake trilogy at today’s State of Play.
  • It will take us back to the Greek saga, with the original Kratos actor reprising the role.
  • The remake is still in early development, so it is probably quite far from launch.

God of War is one of the highlights of PlayStation, and arguably its most popular franchise. While the newer titles have garnered a lot of love, some fans still prefer the more brutal original ones, and there’s some great news.

Sony just wrapped up the State of Play and, to everyone’s surprise, announced that a God of War trilogy Remake covering the Greek saga, featuring the original Kratos actor, is in development.

Why it matters: There was a massive demand for the trilogy’s remake as they are now quite old at this point, and most of the younger generation isn’t even familiar with the absolute force of nature that was Kratos.

Even before the show, there were rumors that Santa Monica would showcase something at the State of Play. Many anticipated it to be the Metroidvania God of War game, which was eventually announced as well.

However, the announcement of the remake of the Greek trilogy came out of nowhere. What makes this even more interesting and nostalgic is that Terrence C. Carson is reprising his role as the Ghost of Sparta

God of War Greek Saga
God of War Greek Saga is set to receive the remake treatment

As good as Christopher Judge is in the role, the more ungrounded and violent version of Kratos would be a better fit for Carson. Anyways the game is still in its early stages, but even the announcement has everyone hyped.

Konami Debuts Silent Hill Townfall With Atmospheric Horror Gameplay Trailer

Story Highlight
  • Konami has revealed Silent Hill Townfall with a brand new trailer.
  • The game features the series’ signature style of atmospheric horror, combined with first-person melee and shooting gameplay.
  • Silent Hill Townfall launches in 2026, with more details coming very soon.

Following Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill F, it’s safe to say that Konami’s horror series is back as one of the major players in the horror games genre. Following up on these games, it was also said that Silent Hill Townfall would arrive in 2026.

Sure enough, a new trailer for this game has now shown up at Sony’s latest State of Play, and it looks as creepy as ever.

Why it matters: Between Resident Evil and Silent Hill returning with new entries in 2026, horror game fans have never been happier with the state of the genre.

The trailer begins with the atmospheric elements that are core to the Silent Hill franchise, teasing a dark past regarding the protagonist, Simon. Later, it also shows a few combat segments, suggesting that the melee mechanics from Silent Hill F will return in some capacity.

Moreover, it seems Silent Hill Townfall will stick with slow and more methodical combat as opposed to a few other horror titles. One major difference, however, appears to be that of first-person gameplay.

Because Silent Hill Townfall has been shown for the first time, it’s hard to say much about the game from this trailer. However, Konami is set to host a more extensive preview of the title after the State of Play.

As for the release date, Konami has yet to say much, but it has confirmed a 2026 launch for the time being.

What do you think about the first trailer? Are you looking forward to Konami’s next entry for Silent Hill? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
