PlayStation Next-Gen Controllers To Feature Haptic Feedback With ‘Movable Weights,’ Patent Teases

Story Highlight
  • Sony has published a new patent that wants to introduce haptic feedback in PlayStation controllers with movable weights.
  • The patent argues that this form of haptic feedback is cheaper and can provide more accurate and immersive haptic sensations.
  • The movable weights can make the haptic vibrations move naturally through the controller, such as when a player swings a sword.

Sony has established itself as a strong competitor in innovative tech, but this new finding might just be the next big thing.

We’ve discovered a new Sony patent that wants to introduce a new form of haptic feedback with ‘movable weights’ in next-gen PlayStation controllers.

This newly published patent talks about cheaper and improved haptic feedback to increase immersion and accurate sensations in controllers. The vibrations can move naturally through the controller instead of being created with fixed motors, like in existing devices.

A controller [… includes] a center of gravity adjuster having a weight that can be connected to the support via a rotatable joint about a plurality of axes and located at a predetermined distance from the axis of rotation of the joint.

Why it matters: The new Sony patent suggests we might soon witness the next big leap in PlayStation’s haptic feedback technology. This cheaper and more effective alternative could make gaming more immersive.

The figures show an example of an operation of the controller according to the system discussed in the patent.

The PlayStation patent named ‘CONTROLLER DEVICE’ explains that movable weights inside controllers can move up and down to vibrate in various ways to accurately reflect gameplay.

For example, if a player swings a sword, the sensation of the swing might travel down the controller instead of producing a simple feeling of static vibration.

The patent argues that haptic feedback is currently quite expensive and is not as effective as it can be using smaller movable haptic weights. We can get more accurate haptics with fewer costs, resulting in cheaper and better controllers.

one of the objects is to provide a controller device that can realize the presentation of various force sensations at a relatively low cost.

The figure shows a schematic configuration diagram showing an example part of the discussed system.

It is worth noting that Xbox recently explored a similar concept, patenting movable haptic motors that players can adjust to their preferences. So, this similar idea might just be Sony’s answer to Xbox.

On a side note, Sony has also patented several other outstanding ideas over the years, including a system to fix latency issues in games by predicting player inputs in advance and another one that wants to detect player outbursts in real time to improve gameplay.

Do you think we will see this new haptic feedback technology in next-gen Sony controllers Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Ubisoft Pledges To Deliver Live Service Games Year After Year Despite Backlash

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft’s CEO has discussed plans for the company’s future pipeline.
  • The company aims to deliver yearly live-service and open-world experiences.
  • CEO Yves Guillemot also teased a major announcement for Rainbow Six next year.

Following underperforming releases like Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft has found itself in a tough spot. Faced with layoffs and financial troubles, the publisher is now relying on Assassin’s Creed Shadows to bounce back.

Amid the ongoing crisis, CEO Yves Guillemot has laid out a plan for the future. As per his latest statement, the future of the company lies in open-world and live-service games.

Why it matters: The statement is surprising because Ubisoft has been far from successful in its live-service endeavors apart from a few exceptions.

Ubisoft gaming
Ubisoft is said to be on the brink of collapse

During a recent investors Q&A, the CEO was asked to share information on the French gaming giant’s future pipeline. He replied that Ubisoft has already invested in various games.

These games will deliver open-world and GAAS(Games as a Service) experiences. Furthermore, Ubisoft states that the releases will arrive ‘year after year,’ hinting at a consistent release schedule.

While the former is a natural fit for the company, some may consider the second choice risky due to the controversial nature of live service gaming. Anyhow, these plans are now set in stone and will begin to unfold soon.

‘We have been investing for a big pipeline, these being open-world action adventure as well as Games as a Service-native experiences.

-Yves Guillemot

Discussing this pipeline, the CEO pointed to upcoming titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and The Division Resurgence, the latter of which is a mobile game.

He also teased major plans for Rainbow Six last year, the company’s biggest live-service IP for now. This statement is interesting since rumors have suggested that a brand-new entry is currently in the works.

Next year, we’ll have big plans that will benefit Rainbow Six across all platforms.

Yves Guillemot also teased that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is showing solid pre-orders. Ubisoft is sure to be pleased with this particular outcome since the latest Assassin’s Creed entry has seen plenty of controversy recently.

Embracer Says Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s Success Is “Reminder” That It Needs To Make Great Games

Story Highlight
  • Embracer CEO has said that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is a reminder that they need to make good games.
  • The company stated in its new report that the right developers should have the time to make such titles.
  • It also revealed that the RPG is nearing 2 million units sold.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has taken over the gaming world these past few weeks showing us the true power of RPG titles. The warhorse game sold over a million copies in a day, 14 times faster than its predecessor, and has received universal acclaim from all over the globe.

With Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 also amassing over 230,000 concurrent users on Steam the game has been a triumph all across the board, so much so that it is reminding its publishers of the importance of making good games with artistic vision.

Why This Matters: Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is so good because of the care and passion behind its development and Embracer using it as an example is a good sign for its future.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
The game’s reception is only because of Warhorse’s care and dedication

Embracer Group, who published the game via its Deep Silver label, said in its latest financial report that the RPG is a reminder of the company’s core, to make great titles for the market.

The publisher’s CEO Lars Wingefors further stated that the right teams should have the time and resources required to execute their vision, emphasizing that when you have trust in these developers, it benefits everyone, leading to brilliant games like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

The success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a reminder of our core – to bring great products to the market.

-Lars Wingefors

Embracer also revealed that the RPG has almost sold 2 million copies, which is a big milestone for the company after a dismal 2024. The Swedish gaming giant has struggled in recent years due to a flurry of bad games, leading to the closure of multiple studios and uncountable layoffs.

But, with Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 inside the Steam top 50 popular games and showing no signs of stopping, Embracer finally seems to be finding its footing. Hopefully, the publisher can learn that $70 games still have a huge market and that talent is needed for them to work, not AI.

Avowed Review Roundup – Another Great Fantasy RPG In Xbox’s Catalog

Story Highlight
  • Avowed’s review embargo has been lifted with a decent 80 score on Metacritic.
  • The fantastical RPG works great with a first-person perspective featuring a detailed open world and impactful choices that shape a well-written narrative.
  • However, many complain that the game feels unfinished and loses its charm midway.

Xbox’s first-party releases for 2025 are stacked, and they have started off strong with Avowed. With just less than a week from the game’s launch, the review embargo for Avowed has been lifted, and it seems that we got another great first-person RPG this month.

Why It Matters: With February releases stacked with heavy hitters, many were skeptical that Avowed would be a weak release. Against all odds, Avowed has managed to surpass everyone’s expectations and secure a spot as a solid title in Xbox’s catalog.

Avowed Received A Generally Favorable Score Of 80 On Metacritic
  • 9 – Inverse
  • 9 – GamesHub
  • 9 – TechRaptor
  • 7 – IGN
  • 7 – Game Rant
  • 6 – Gamespot
  • 6 – TheGamer
  • 4/5 -Dexerto
  • 4/5 – Eurogamer
  • 4/5 – GamesRadar

Aside from major gaming outlets rating the game these strong numbers, Avowed managed to get an 80/100 score on Metacritic. Being generally favorable, many praised the game’s strong narrative, world detail, and impactful choices.

Still, a few bad reviews still complain about the game being incomplete and lacking in the second part. The combat wasn’t quite intriguing for the reviewers, either.

However, despite the director’s remarks about the game being janky, one of the reviews stated that it was the most complete Obsidian game.

Despite being often compared to Skyrim, the game departs from the comparison just a few hours into the story, according to the reviews. Nevertheless, it stands out as a true successor to Skyrim but focuses more on the narrative department and Role-playing features.

With Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 already setting the bar high for RPGs this month, breaking several records, it seems that Avowed will hold up just fine.

What are your thoughts on Avowed? Are you buying the game when it releases on 18th February next week? Let us know in the comments below or head towards the official Tech4Gamers Forums.

All RTX 5090 GPUs Could Burn Out Due To Imbalanced Power Delivery

Story Highlight
  • The new 12V-2×6 cable still faces overheating issues, similar to the 12VHPWR, due to fluctuating current from GPU voltage converters.
  • The fluctuating current causes thermal failure and higher resistance at the cable’s contact point, raising temperatures and reducing stability.
  • Testing revealed an imbalance between the cables, connectors, and power supply, affecting GPU stability and life.

In just a few weeks since the RTX 5090 was released, we’ve already seen a scenario with burned graphics cards similar to the RTX 4090.

Although there have been a few instances, it should be noted that compared to the previous generation, very few graphics cards have been sold, so the likelihood of it occurring is significantly higher.

Why it matters: The fluctuating current can lead to overheating and potential damage to the graphics card, shortening its lifespan and affecting performance.

The “renewed” 12V-2×6 cables, which were supposed to be the solution to the 12VHPWR issue, are the most affected. We’ve already seen examinations of cable degradation by Der8auer, Buildzoid, and others. Now, let’s see what Igor’s Lab thinks.

According to Igor’s Lab, the RTX 50 cables’ contact area overheating could be caused by a mechanical issue, and the cable itself could also be at fault. As we can see, he has already analyzed similar issues with the RTX 4090, and the 12V-2×6 cable hasn’t made a significant difference.

Igor also points out that the GPU voltage converters produce a fluctuating (pulsed) current rather than a steady direct voltage. Capacitors and filters are used to try to create a continuous voltage that is as stable as possible.

He also believes that NVIDIA’s efforts to reduce the size of its graphics cards have resulted in a lack of a suitable filter system to manage these peaks, which has an impact on its stability and life.

Furthermore, a pulsating current might result in thermal failure and an increase in resistance at the cables’ point of contact. The reason for this is that high-frequency currents flow across the conductors’ surface, reducing their effective area and raising their density, which raises the temperature.

Finally, Igor tested both the MSI RTX 5090 SUPRIM and the RTX 5090 Founders Edition to confirm that there are minor balancing concerns between the cables and that changing cables did not result in a significant imbalance.

According to Igor’s conclusion, this imbalance is a combination of the cables themselves, the graphics card connectors, and the power supply.

Days Gone Remastered Is Drawing Controversy As Fans Demand Sequel

Story Highlight
  • The Days Gone remaster is drawing criticism from fans as they deem the game unnecessary.
  • All the comments under the announcement trailer are asking Sony for a sequel, not a remaster
  • Days Gone 2 was originally in development before being canceled.

Sony conducted its latest State of Play last night and made a flurry of exciting announcements ranging from a new Borderlands title to the PC release date of Stellar Blade. But, one reveal didn’t stand out as much for the audience and has disappointed many fans.

Days Gone Remastered got its first official announcement last night and is set to launch this April. However, fans are less than happy with this announcement from Sony as many just want a sequel to the 2018 game and not another unwanted remaster.

Why it matters: Sony developing a remaster of Days Gone instead of a sequel is an indictment of its fan service as no player wanted a rehash of the old game.

Fans Demand Days Gone Sequel
Fans are not happy with the Days Gone remastered announcement.

The comments under the trailer of Days Gone Remastered echo the same sentiment, with fans in disarray over this decision to make a rehash of the original and not a sequel to the adventure title.

One reply said that no one needs a remaster as the game was already pretty good-looking on the old-gen consoles. Another fan pointed out how the Nero side missions in the first title showcase the need for a Days Gone sequel while some said not making a sequel is “criminal“.

The Days Gone remaster will have a few new perks including permadeath mode, speedrun mode, and new accessibility features but none of these things are enough to convince fans a remaster is required.

A sequel of the 2018 Bend Studios title was in development but the developer itself cancelled the game according to reports. The game’s director also said last year that a sequel to the original was never going to happen because Sony was never a fan of the game.

Consequently, we aren’t getting Days Gone 2 but if you played the game on PlayStation 4 you can upgrade to the remaster for $10.

Do you think this remaster is a good move or just an unnecessary crash grab from Sony? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Among the other announcements, PlayStation has confirmed a launch date for Stellar Blade’s PC port. This version of the game is coming much sooner than expected, with the announcement revealing a June 2025 release.

Why it matters: Stellar Blade’s arrival on PC marks three PlayStation-exclusive games heading to the platform within the first six months of 2025. Spider-Man 2 was launched recently, and The Last of Us Part 2 is heading to the platform soon.

  • Sony has finally announced the unwanted remaster during the recent PlayStation State of Play.
  • The remastered version will be released on April 25th on PlayStation and the DLC will be released on PC on the same date.

Fans have been asking for a sequel to Days Gone, one of the most loved PlayStation IP. However, Sony has refused to listen to the fandom and didn’t care enough to give them a sequel to an IP they enjoyed.

Instead of giving them a sequel Sony apparently decided to announce Days Gone Remastered during State of Play. The game will be launching on April 25th

The new accessibility features include: High Contrast mode, Game Speed, UI Narration, Collectible Audio Cues, Controller Remapping, Field of View slider, and more.

  • The footage showcases gorgeous visuals and incredible gameplay.
  • As the team works toward the 2026 launch window, more details will be shared later this year.

Capcom is set to bring back various classic IPs very soon, including a beloved action franchise. In addition to Okami, Onimusha will return to the industry with a brand new title, creating excitement among fans of these older franchises.

Following the announcement a few months ago, the studio has also shared more details on Onimusha’s comeback. A new gameplay trailer has been debuted, which gives fans a small glimpse at the gameplay and narrative that awaits them as the series returns in 2026.

Why it matters: Onimusha has long been a fan favorite in the gaming industry, and the latest gameplay trailer highlights exactly why this franchise has been so appealing.

The trailer sets a strong first impression with gorgeous visuals and cutscenes. It showcases the series’ new protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi, and following a brief introduction, the latest footage transitions right into the melee combat gameplay.

The melee combat is shown to be impactful and extremely well-animated. Onimusha: Way of the Sword also appears to incorporate environmental elements into combat, with the protagonist using the environment for cover and crowd control.

All in all, Capcom seems to have done the series justice, appealing to both new and old fans. While more information has yet to appear, the launch is still over a year out, so this is just a small taste of things to come.

As a reminder, Onimusha: Way of the Sword officially arrives in 2026. Recent rumors have also alluded to the return of IPs like Devil May Cry, giving Capcom fans plenty of reason to be excited about the future.

Borderlands 4 Stuns In New Trailer; Releases September 12, 2025

Story Highlight
  • Borderlands 4 got a new gameplay trailer at the PlayStation State of Play.
  • The game will be released on September 12, later this year.
  • More details will be revealed in a future State of Play, fully focused on Borderlands 4.

The PlayStation State of Play has started off with a strong foot. A new gameplay trailer for Borderlands 4 was revealed, along with a release date of September 12 later this year.

Why It Matters: Since its reveal at the TGA Awards last year, fans have patiently waited for Borderlands 4’s release date. While the game was confirmed to launch during Fall 2025, a proper release date may be relieving for fans.

The short trailer, lasting just over a minute, previewed some intense shooting in typical Borderlands style. It showcased new action skills, movement abilities, and unique weapons that will shake up the series’ redundant formula.

More details on the game are expected in a future State of Play in spring, focused especially on Borderlands 4.

Previously, it was reported that Borderlands 4 will be built on Unreal Engine 5, a potential cause of worry given the engine’s notorious reputation. This is even more concerning considering that the franchise’s future lies with Borderlands 4 coming with the disappointing failure of the live-action project.

Set to be Gearbox Studio’s most ambitious Borderlands release from the whole franchise, the title has high hopes and expectations to rival other Take-Two heavy hitters, namely GTA 6 and Mafia Reboot, releasing within the same time frame.

What do you think about Borderlands 4’s trailer? Will you buy the game when it releases on September 23rd later this year? Let us know in the comments below or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum.
