AMD 9070 XT Now Rivals RTX 5070 Ti in Raw Performance Thanks to Driver Updates

Story Highlight
  • The Adrenalin 25.6.3 driver update makes the RX 9070 XT a direct competitor to Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti in terms of raw performance.
  • At 1440p resolution, the RX 9070 XT saw an average performance increase of 9%, whereas the RTX 5070 Ti improved by only 2.5% with its latest driver.
  • AMD’s flagship GPU is now roughly 3% faster than the RTX 5070 Ti on average, reversing the previous performance gap.

AMD’s newest driver update, Adrenalin 25.6.3, has made the Radeon RX 9070 XT much faster, placing it head-to-head with Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti. In some games, the 9070 XT even pulls ahead, closing the gap and making it a strong option for gamers choosing between the two cards.

Why it matters: The 9070 XT easily beats the RTX 4070 Ti Super, and now it’s capable of rivalling the new-gen 5070 Ti for a much lower MSRP.

The Adrenalin 25.6.3 driver provided the RX 9070 XT with a solid 9% performance boost across 16 games at 1440p resolution. Meanwhile, the RTX 5070 Ti received only a 2.5% increase from its latest update.

This is a big change, since the 5070 Ti was originally about 2.5% faster when it launched. Now, the 9070 XT has taken the lead by around 3% on average.

The 9070 XT saw its biggest gains in some of the most popular games. In Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, performance jumped by 27%, making it 24% faster than the 5070 Ti, which is quite a turnaround from being 8% slower before.

Other substantial improvements include an 18% increase in Hogwarts Legacy, a 14% boost in Delta Force, and a 23% increase in Counter-Strike 2. In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the 9070 XT now leads the 5070 Ti by a solid 30%.

However, not all games saw noticeable improvements. Starfield and Star Wars Outlaws only got small boosts of 5% and 3%, while games like The Last of Us Part One and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor didn’t show much change at 1440p.

AMD 9070 XT Faster Than RTX 5070 Ti
At 1440p, the RX 9070 XT got an average performance boost of 9% compared to review drivers.

At 4K, the difference between the two cards is even smaller, with both offering nearly the same performance. The real improvements can be seen at 1440p resolution.

This is good news for consumers. With AMD and Nvidia competing more closely, it could lead to better deals and more options. The RTX 5070 Ti still has an edge in features like ray tracing and DLSS Frame Generation, but the 9070 XT’s raw performance makes it an excellent choice for gamers with a much lower MSRP.

Are these improvements enough for you to consider buying the 9070 XT over the 5070 Ti? Let us know in the comments, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

PlayStation Fans Are Excited For Horizon 3 After Seeing Decima Engine’s Evolution In Death Stranding 2

Story Highlight
  • Many PlayStation fans have expressed their amazement at the evolution of the Decima Engine in Death Stranding 2.
  • The game’s amazing visuals and upgrades over the first entry have left fans highly excited for Horizon 3.
  • Gamers believe Horizon 3 will be the one to push the Decima Engine further and be the definitive next step after Death Stranding 2.

Death Stranding 2 is an obvious upgrade over the first title, with breathtaking visuals and stunning landscapes tied together with the robust performance of the Decima Engine. However, all this has only served to fuel the excitement for Horizon 3 for PlayStation fans.

Many PlayStation users across social media are hyping up the next Horizon title since Death Stranding 2 came out. The positive reception stems from how much the Decima Engine has improved over the years, so fans are expecting another giant leap in Horizon 3.

Why it matters: Decima Engine is quickly gaining popularity in the gaming scene, thanks to titles like Horizon Forbidden West and Death Stranding 2, which have made it a worthy competitor for Unreal Engine 5.

The Decima Engine has not been used by many games so far, but Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series and the Death Stranding IP have best showcased its capabilities. Death Stranding 2 has especially cemented it as one of the best game engines for AAA titles.

The new Death Stranding 2 has almost no performance issues due to the Decima Engine, which caused some to dub it the better choice compared to Unreal Engine 5.

Horizon 3 is also expected to be released in 2027, which would give Guerrilla Games’ developers ample time to evolve the Decima Engine further. These two years could create a night-and-day difference in Horizon 3, making it look and perform even better than Death Stranding 2.

Horizon Forbidden West
The Horizon franchise is already renowned for featuring some of the best visuals.

For those not in the know, more PlayStation studios plan to utilize the Decima engine in their upcoming projects. Days Gone developer Bend Studio is already utilizing it for its next game.

Do you think Guerrilla Games will manage to make Death Stranding 2 visuals look old in comparison to Horizon 3? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Microsoft Cuts 9,000 Jobs in Second Wave of Layoffs, ZeniMax And Some Xbox Divisions Also Impacted

Story Highlight
  • Microsoft has slashed 9000 employees, accounting for 4% ofthe  workforce.
  • This is their second round of layoffs this year, with the first one impacting 4000 employees.
  • Zenimax Media and Candy Crush developer were also impacted by the layoff, with more Xbox layoffs expected soon.

This year is set to become significantly tougher for Microsoft, which has experienced its second wave of layoffs.

The Tech Giant is reported to have cut down 9000 of its employees, which accounts for 4% of its total staff.

Why it matters: The world is on the verge of an economic recession, with numerous layoffs affecting companies worldwide.

In an era of layoffs, Nintendo’s workforce has been increasing significantly YoY

This report comes from Bloomberg, which also reports that the layoffs impacted Xbox. This is Microsoft’s second wave of layoffs this year, following the first one in May, which resulted in the loss of 4,000 employees.

On the other hand, Windows Central‘s insider sources indicate that this layoff affected Zenimax Media and the developer of Candy Crush. 200 jobs were cut from the gaming sector, and more layoffs are expected soon.

Microsoft has also cancelled Ever Wild, an original IP they worked on for more than a decade, according to VGC. The game struggled in development despite being rebooted, which ultimately led to its cancellation.

As of June last year, Microsoft had reported 228,000 workers, with the majority of them working in Sales and Marketing. The layoffs have affected employees working in Sales and Marketing the most.

The report also revealed Phil Spencer’s internal e-mail to staff, which says:

We will end or decrease work in certain areas of the business and follow Microsoft’s lead in removing layers of management to increase agility and effectiveness.

This comes straight after Microsoft pressured its employees into making AI usage mandatory. While AI usage does make work more efficient, it also reduces the manpower required by a slight percentage, hence the layoffs.

Throughout 2025, Microsoft is making a significant $80 billion investment in AI-enabled data centres.

AMD’s RDNA 5 GPUs to Offer First Glimpse at PS6 Tech Through Project Amethyst

Story Highlight
  • The PS5 Lead Architect is working on engineering AMD’s RDNA 5 GPUs.
  • This is part of Project Amethyst, the upcoming AMD GPUs will offer the first glimpse at PS6 tech.
  • PS5 Pro will also receive a massive boost with PSSR being replaced by FSR 4 sometime next year.

While AMD has delivered SoC chips for Sony consoles throughout the last two generations, their partnership is only getting stronger. The two companies have partnered on Project Amethyst, aiming to develop AI and machine learning tech for games that, while broadly applicable, will help define PS6’s technology.

PS5 Lead Architect has now begun working on AMD’s upcoming RDNA 5 GPU lineup, which will later lay the foundation for the technology used in the PS6.

Why it matters: Project Amethyst will help shape the future of both console and PC gaming. AMD and Sony’s partnership will ensure that the next-gen console will have a big leap compared to the recent plateau.

Tom’s Guide spoke with PS5 Lead Architect Mark Cerny about what’s next for Project Amethyst. Details on the next-generation Sony consoles weren’t discussed explicitly, but we may get a glimpse of them soon.

Big chunks of RDNA 5, or whatever AMD ends up calling it, are coming out of the engineering I am doing on the project.

The said GPU lineup is expected to be released in 2026, with the following year set to debut Sony’s PS6, according to rumours. Moreover, Project Amethyst is not Sony’s proprietary technology and is shared freely among Sony and AMD, as stated in the report.

Beyond that, Project Amethyst’s first result is expected to bear fruit soon, starting with the PS5 Pro. The mid-generation console will receive a significant technology upgrade sometime next year, which will serve as a replacement for the current PSSR.

AMD’s FSR 4 will be the new upscaler, and it will be the full-fat version of the technology, rather than a cut-down version.

Nintendo Under Threat of Lawsuit After Bricking Switch 2 Consoles

Story Highlight
  • Multiple reports have confirmed Nintendo’s ability to brick Switch 2 consoles.
  • This had led Procon-SP from Brazil to request that the gaming giant modify this part of its EULA agreement.
  • Procon-SP could even pursue legal action if Nintendo fails to comply.

The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts significantly better protection against hacks and mods than its predecessors. Among Nintendo’s efforts to protect the console, the gaming giant added the ability to brick any console at will, serving as a last resort in extreme cases.

Although this was expected to be an extreme measure, multiple instances of bricked consoles have already popped up. In fact, the situation has raised so many concerns that it could lead to a potential lawsuit for the gaming giant.

Why it matters: Because Nintendo has shipped millions of Switch 2 units, the gaming giant’s policies impact a huge market already. The company has also been surrounded by controversy over $80 games in the past.

The Switch 2 Sold Incredibly Well Despite Its Controversies

Following various examples of bricked consoles, a Brazilian consumer watchdog has risen to the occasion and challenged Nintendo.

According to Procon-SP, Nintendo’s ability to revoke online access and subscriptions at any given moment violates Brazilian consumer protection laws. It also dubbed the current approach abusive to Brazilian customers.

The watchdog has initiated a conversation with Nintendo US on the matters and hopes to reach a suitable agreement. It should be noted that no lawsuit has been initiated yet, but Nintendo is now looking into the matter.

Should the two parties fail to reach an agreement, Procon-SP could proceed with more serious legal actions. For now, Nintendo has promised to respond within the next 20 days.

Nintendo Could Discontinue Official Switch 2 Sales In Brazil To Avoid A Lawsuit

The primary concern in this instance stems from the fact that many consumers have been unknowingly sold bricked Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.

In other cases, a user’s account was permanently banned for using the name “Twink Link,” showcasing why Brazil’s Consumer Protection Program is treating the matter so seriously.

What do you think about Nintendo reserving the right to brick its latest hardware? Do you agree or disagree with this decision? Share your opinions in the comments and visit the Tech4Gamers Forums for more discussions.

Fallout New Vegas Director Finds Lack of Difficulty Options Annoying, Says Games Should Support All Players

Story Highlight
  • Fallout New Vegas director says video games should have a wider range of difficulty options.
  • He gets annoyed when games don’t have options to tinker with.
  • Moreover, he thinks that video games can accommodate different types of players and doing so isn’t difficult.

With the introduction of new genres and video games becoming more mainstream, gaming in general has become a try-hard sport with developers scaling up their games to a specific audience, ignoring the rest.

Video games also lack a broader range of difficulty settings, which can exclude casual gamers or hardcore ones. Fallout New Vegas director has expressed his frustration over RPGs becoming more complex to access and stated that they need more difficulty options rather than simplifying mechanics.

Why it matters: Developers stab themselves by making their games niche. Instead, they should tailor their titles to cater to every type of gamer, who can then adjust in-game options to their own needs.

A Player Sued Bandai Namco Because They Found Elden Ring Too Difficult

Talking to PC Gamer, Josh Sawyer said the following:

I think we can accommodate different types of players, but it’s not with a ‘one size fits all thing’ –  I do get annoyed when I play a game and there’s nothing there for me to tinker with.

Sawyer wants to make games more inclusive for all types of audiences and loves it when companies create different difficulty options. However, playing games with no difficulty options is rather frustrating for the acclaimed developer.

Additionally, Sawyer also stated that adding difficulty options doesn’t take much and sacrificing storytelling and other aspects of the game in the name of accessibility is a choice rather than something they need to do.

Take the 2025 releases, for instance. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, despite its resounding success, was relatively inaccessible for the casual gamer. The same was the case with Lies of P, which recently added more difficulty options post-launch to cater to a non-soul-based audience as well.

Outriders 2 Is One of the Two People Can Fly’s Canceled Games, Fans Call It Square Enix Curse

Story Highlight
  • It has been revealed that one of the cancelled games from People Can Fly was Outriders 2.
  • This has come as a shock to many fans, and as the developer said previously, the cancellation occurred because the publisher, Square Enix, is to blame.
  • The sequel to Outriders was Project Gemini, whose IP is owned by Square Enix.

It was recently announced that two of the major projects that People Can Fly was working on were cancelled. For those not in the know, People Can Fly has worked on titles like Outriders, Gears of War: Judgment, and Bluestorm.

The studio is also working with The Coalition to work on one of the most hyped games, Gears of War: E-Day. There are many fans who enjoyed the game, Outriders, but unfortunately, they didn’t get a sequel. It has just been revealed that Outriders 2 was in development but got cancelled

Why it matters: Although Outriders didn’t perform ideally, it still had a lot of fans who enjoyed the game, at least until the end section.

Thumbs War has revealed that it learned one of the two cancelled projects from People Can Fly was Outriders 2. It’s pretty surprising that the studio was developing this game when the first title wasn’t particularly hyped.

There was hype surrounding it, and many players enjoyed it, but it may not have been enough to warrant a sequel. However, the studio may have considered strengthening the knots and creating a better overall game, which would have far exceeded the fans’ expectations, but unfortunately, they will never get the sequel

The media has confirmed, via an anonymous source, that one of the cancelled games was indeed the sequel to Outriders; however, we still recommend taking this with a grain of salt.

Additionally, it is worth noting that Square Enix collaborated on the first title, which had all the rights to the Project Gemini IP, which was subsequently cancelled. The Project Gemini is revealed to be Outriders 2, and fans were quick to blame the publisher for the cancellation.

The developer revealed that the project’s cancellation was because of Square Enix, so the curse is real.

The lack of communication from the Publisher as to its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project.

What do you think about Square Enix being the main culprit behind the cancellation of a much-anticipated title? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.

Sega To Focus On Global Market Instead Of Japanese-First Approach For A Strong Comeback, President Confirms

Story Highlight
  • The Sega president confirms that the studio will focus on the global gaming market instead of a Japanese-first approach.
  • He aims to revive the company to its glory days, which is not possible if the global market is neglected.
  • Therefore, Sega will pay utmost attention to its international fans by releasing games simultaneously across all markets and platforms.

Sega had a massive presence in the early 2000s with its plethora of fun gaming IPs and consoles. However, besides continuing to release games in some strong franchises worldwide, its hold on the Western market has diminished considerably.

Now, company president Shuji Utsumi is trying to revive the company in a highly competitive gaming space. He has now acknowledged that this goal is impossible if Sega continues to focus on a Japanese-first approach.

Why it matters: Sega’s president understands that the company cannot compete against the behemoths if the global market is neglected. He believes that all the gamers around the world are the company’s audience.

Sega announced many games last year.

In an interview with The Game Business, Shuji Utsumi says that Sega will now focus on the global market to ensure no fans are left behind. Many Japanese studios had been paying more attention to their domestic audience for years, but this is quickly changing.

Even though Sega is such a beloved company among Western audiences, they were paying very little attention to this audience. So we changed the attitude to say: ‘Hey, all the gamers in the world are our audience’

Now, Sega accepts all gamers as its focus and wants to release games simultaneously across all markets and platforms. The studios under its umbrella are also changing their mindset to focus on global releases, which is helping Shuji’s ultimate goal to revive Sega.

We decided to have the Japanese and international [versions] launching at the same time. And having [all the] platforms, including PC, at the same time, too.

Virtua Fighter By Sega
Sega is also working on Virtua Fighter 6, expected to launch in the winter of 2026.

Sega has aggressive plans to revive its old gaming IPs with newer releases. It has already revealed a bunch of new games, including Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, and Streets of Rage.

Do you think these new strategies will help Sega finally make its presence as strong as the glory days, despite the tough competition? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Fans Claim Game Pass Quality Has Significantly Improved In 2025 Compared To Last Year

Story Highlight
  • According to fans, Game Pass value has improved in 2025 compared to past years.
  • Multiple first-party releases by Xbox and other GOTY contenders were added to the service on Day One.
  • The second half of 2025 is expected to feature even bigger releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, Gears of War: Reloaded, and more.

Although console sales may be declining, Game Pass is the only thing sustaining Xbox. The subscription service has experienced tremendous growth over the past few years, with 2025 being its most significant year, according to fans.

Users state that Game Pass in 2025 has improved significantly over the past year in terms of catalogue, with multiple AAA day-one releases and the library expanding more generally.

Why it matters: In times when video games become increasingly expensive, Game Pass allows players to enjoy big releases for just a fraction of the price.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Clair Obscur Dev Says Putting Games On Game Pass Is Worth It

In a new poll, the majority of fans praised the quality of releases, which has vastly improved. Others state that they no longer even need to buy games since the catalogue is stacked.

Just for reference, Game Pass had multiple GOTY contenders added to the service on Day One. Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 and Blue Prince.

First-party releases were also stacked. Titles like DOOM: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, Avowed, Oblivion Remastered, Atomfall, and others were also great additions.

That is, we’re only halfway through 2025, and other titles like The Outer Worlds 2, Gears of War Reloaded, Ninja Gaiden 4, Grounded 2, and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will hit the service on Day One of their release.

Overall, 48 games have been added this year, including 11 first-party games, which represents a 1000% increase over the past year

With the Activision merger also going through, all the games from the publisher, namely Call of Duty, Diablo 4, and a huge catalogue of Retro games, are also available on Game Pass.

Currently, Game Pass starts at $12 a month, with Ultimate costing $20. These prices are highly affordable and a good tradeoff for the library that players receive. However, backend changes have signalled that a price change may come to the service to account for inflation, etc.

New GTA 6 Job Listings Suggest Rockstar Preparing Huge Global Marketing Campaign

Story Highlight
  • A string of new job listings on the Rockstar Games site suggests that it is preparing for a huge marketing campaign for GTA 6.
  • 11 positions are currently open for marketing localization QA testers for different countries, and more will be available later.
  • These listings also pretty much confirm that Rockstar is quite confident in GTA 6’s current release date after facing a delay.

Rockstar Games is pouring everything it’s got into developing and polishing GTA 6 for the highly excited gamers. So, even after the last delay, fans were already fearing another pushback to the game’s launch date, but that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore.

A series of new job listings have been spotted on the Rockstar Games site, which suggests that the studio is cooking a huge marketing campaign for GTA 6. The team currently has 11 positions open for marketing localization QA testers, each aiming for a major country.

Why it matters: Rockstar typically only does serious marketing for its games right when they are close to release. So, the new job listings suggest that the game’s development has come along smoothly ever since the last delay.

GTA 6
Rockstar has 11 positions open for marketing localization QA testers for major countries.

These job listings are a huge deal because they are the studio’s subtle way of confirming that GTA 6 will actually drop on its release date. In other words, Rockstar Games appears entirely confident, so it is getting ready for huge marketing campaigns ahead of launch.

So, countries like Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and more will likely start seeing promotions and marketing for GTA 6. It is a global campaign because Rockstar implies that more positions for more countries will become available in the near future.

Similarly, a listing for a mobile engineer also teases that Rockstar is making a live companion app for GTA 6, something we have already seen with GTA 5 and RDR2. This mobile app could be used to interact with the title in various ways and enhance overall gameplay.

GTA 6
GTA 6 is aiming to shake the entire gaming industry, as other studios brace for impact.

On a side note, past rumors have suggested that GTA 6 will feature 700+ enterable buildings, and its budget is well over $1 billion.
