Rockstar Might Be Game Testing GTA 6, Likely in Final Development Stages

Story Highlight
  • New Rockstar India job listing suggests that GTA 6 is undergoing game testing.
  • This further solidifies the current release date the game is aiming for later this year, in November.
  • Marketing for the game is starting in the summer season.

The highly anticipated GTA 6 is right around the corner, and it may be hard to believe considering all the past delays the game has experienced. With just a few months left until launch, it is expected that the game is in its final stages of development.

Rockstar may even be game-testing GTA 6, according to a new job listing. This further cements the publisher’s promise of releasing the game in November later this year.

Why it matters: With 3 delays for GTA 6, fans have now developed trust issues about whether the game will even come out later this year. However, this job listing will reassure those who doubt the game is coming out soon.

Currently, Rockstar has only a single project scheduled for 2026: GTA 6. The game releases on November 19, so it makes sense for them to be in the polishing stages. Rockstar India has a big part in the game’s development, and nearly 1,600 Indian developers make up all 10,000 people working on the game.

Although it is notable to mention that Max Payne 1 and 2 are also getting remade, those projects are being outsourced to Remedy Entertainment, the original developers of those games.

GTA 6 Leak Came From A Phishing Scam That Breached The Indian Studio

It is very likely that Rockstar is game-testing those remakes internally since their release is also around the corner. Still, the posting mentioned multiple game projects, so GTA 6 is most probably a part of that.

As for new details from Rockstar, marketing for the game will start soon, in the summer season. Previously, rumors have suggested a new trailer coming in April, so we suggest keeping your ears peeled for that.

Sony Patents Method To Transform Phone Into PlayStation Controller

Story Highlight
  • Sony has filed a new patent to bring together smartphones and PlayStation controllers.
  • This patent proposes a system where the smartphone is attached to a controller and can be used as an extension for various inputs.
  • Sony has also filed various other patents that hint at interesting technologies for the future.

Controllers have become an increasingly popular choice for gamers across the years, and PlayStation’s DualSense controller offers haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, making it one of the best on the market.

However, they are still limited in nature due to the number of inputs possible, but a new patent hints at a system that could also help them achieve a greater degree of functionaility using mobile devices.

Why it matters: Controllers still pale in comparison to mouse and keyboard for games, but this solution could lead to interesting results in the future.

The DualSense Controller Could Improve Further When Paired With A Phone

As spotted by Cheathappens, Sony wants to create a smart hybrid input system. Using a magnetic attachment unit to combine the phone and controller, PlayStation wants to bring the benefits of mobile and controller-based inputs together.

PlayStation believes controllers work best with genres like racing games, but they don’t perform as well in first-person shooters. According to the patent, mounting the phone on the controller as a complementary device is one potential solution to this issue.

The patent shows that when combined, the system could use smartphones for additional functions like facial scans, map display, and more. Effectively, the phone would become an extension of the controller itself.

Sony’s Patent Could Make Gaming A Lot More Convenient

When these patents will be adopted for real-world use is still anybody’s guess, but Sony certainly has big plans ahead.

Elsewhere, the gaming giant has also filed various patents that could lead to similarly interesting developments in the future. For instance, the gaming giant might drastically shrink the size of AAA titles, and it could even be working on a touch-sensitive controller for the PS6.

Forza Horizon 6 System Requirements Continue Series Tradition of Optimized PC Ports

Story Highlight
  • Forza Horizon 6 has received official system requirements.
  • The game asks for a combo as old as the GTX 1650 and Core i5-8400 for 1080p 60FPS gameplay.
  • The requirements also confirm support for DLSS 4, FSR 4, XeSS 2.1, and handhelds like the Steam Deck.

Playground Games is set to release two big titles this year with Fable and Forza Horizon 6. The latter arrives first, taking the series to Japan with the biggest open-world of the franchise to date.

With less than two months left before its release, Forza Horizon 6 has also received official system requirements from Playground Games today. To nobody’s surprise, the game seems to be quite well optimized.

Why it matters: Playground Games’ Forza Horizon series has a reputation for putting out extremely well-optimized titles. These games run well across both lower and higher-end PCs.

Forza Horizon 6
Forza Horizon 6 PC Specifications via Playground Games

Playground Games recommends a fairly old Intel Core i5-8400/ Ryzen 5 1600 and GTX 1650/RX 6500 XT setup for 1080p 60FPS gameplay in Forza Horizon 6. Those with a more capable PC with a GPU like the RTX 3060 Ti and a CPU like the Ryzen 5 5600X can expect to aim for 1440p 60FPS gameplay at the High preset.

Forza Horizon 6 also recommends an RTX 4070 Ti or RX 7900 XT GPU for 4K 60FPS gameplay. Moreover, gamers looking to crank all the settings up to the maximum, including ray-tracing, can expect to do so on an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT.

The memory requirements go up with resolution, but for 1440p or below, 16GB should still be more than capable of delivering great results in Forza Horizon 6. Elsewhere, the team confirms DLSS 4, FSR 4, and Intel XeSS 2.1 support for the game.

Handhelds like the Steam Deck will also be supported at launch, so it seems Playground Games has covered all the bases when it comes to optimizing the title for different PC hardware.

“Will Anyone Notice The Difference?” – Dev Says Sony May Struggle To Sell PS6 To PS5 Players

Story Highlight
  • An indie game developer believes that Sony might have a hard time getting PS5 owners to upgrade to the PS6.
  • The developer says that ray-tracing and machine learning alone may not be enough to encourage an upgrade, especially for PS5 Pro owners.
  • He argues that PS4 owners will likely find the PS6 more enticing for its bigger leap in graphics and performance.

The PS5 is quickly approaching its sixth anniversary, and rumors regarding the PS6 have begun to pick up the pace. Sony’s next PlayStation console is expected to launch as early as 2027, pushing ray-tracing and machine learning as two of its biggest selling points.

However, in terms of pure rasterization performance, the PS6 may not offer as big a leap as its predecessors. This is why a developer believes Sony may find it difficult to sell the console to existing PS5 gamers.

Why it matters: The PS5 does not offer as big an upgrade over the PS4 as the PS4 did over the PS3. For PlayStation, the next console will likely repeat this cycle.

On a recent episode of Broken Silicon, Moore’s Law is Dead spoke to Matt from Alderon Games, discussing the next generation of consoles and the industry’s landscape with the developer.

On the subject of the PS6, the two were asked to share their thoughts on the performance jump from the PS5 to the PS6 and how it would be perceived by general audiences. Matt, being a developer, noted that he is quite excited about the ray-tracing potential of the upcoming consoles.

However, he confirmed that 30-40% of PlayStation players engage with Alderon Games’ titles on PS4. The developer believes that because Sony has struggled to bring PS4 players to PS5, the same jump might be even more difficult from the PS5 to PS6.

He argues that path tracing and machine learning alone may not be enough, especially when considering how capable the PS5 Pro already is.

Sony has had a hard time getting people off PS4. The real question’s going to be, are those people going to see a difference noticeable enough?

Let’s say you already have a PS5 Pro; are you really going to upgrade for a ray-tracing improvement?

On the other hand, the developer believes that gamers who skipped the PS5 would be more inclined toward upgrading since the console would offer a huge jump in graphical fidelity and performance over the PS4.

The PS5 Launched In 2020

Of course, pricing will also play a key role in the fate of the PS6. At the moment, the PS6 is expected to be around 2x more capable than the PS5 Pro in rasterization and 3-6x more capable in ray-tracing workloads.

Leaked specifications point to a 10 Zen 6 cores (8 Zen 6c + 2 Zen 6 LP) CPU and a 54CU RDNA 5 GPU (52CUs usable) for the console, in addition to 30-40GB of memory.

Crimson Desert User Score Finally Turns Positive on Metacritic Following Recent Patches

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert was off to a shaky start after mixed audience and critical reviews.
  • The recent patches fixed a lot of things, and the user score has finally turned positive.
  • Steam reviews are now also mostly positive, from the initial mixed.

Crimson Desert launched to an underwhelming reception from both the critics and the audience. It was criticized for a lot of technical issues that brought the review scores down, but now Pearl Abyss has already fixed many of the problems.

The Crimson Desert User Score on Metacritic has finally turned positive following the recent patches. The update went live a couple of days ago and brought in over 100 fixes, which resolved most of the major complaints.

Why it matters: Technical flaws, difficult combat, and annoyingly tough boss battles were some of the major gripes at launch. The studio listened to the feedback and has now fixed most of what was wrong with the RPG.

Crimson Desert user score
After a mixed reception, Crimson Desert’s scores are finally turning positive

It debuted with a user score in the early-7s, which later settled to around 7.8, with a lot of mixed reviews. However, now the score has turned positive at 8.3, which is climbing further as more positive reviews pour in.

Additionally, the Steam reviews were also mixed at first, and they are now mostly positive as well. While now, technically, the game might not be a Game of the Year contender, it’s certainly an amazing RPG.

The level of exploration is unmatched, with thrilling boss fights. The story initially is a problem, and we finally know the reason for it, but again, exploration is what Pearl Abyss was targeting, and it aces in that department.

AMD FSR 4.1 Disappoints — No Noticeable Improvements, Limited to RX 9000 GPUs Only

Story Highlight
  • Testing shows that AMD FSR 4.1 isn’t that big of an improvement over its predecessor.
  • The upscaler reduced smearing, but at the trade-off of reduced image stability.
  • It is still locked to RX 9000 GPUs and still lacks support for Vulkan.

AMD’s FSR has been playing catch-up to Nvidia’s DLSS ever since its introduction. While it came really close with its latest iterations, it still lags in a lot of things, and even the latest version isn’t a huge upgrade as some would’ve hoped for.

Testing reveals that FSR 4.1 does reduce smearing, but at an unwanted cost of reduced image stability and loss of detail. Additionally, it is also limited to just the RX 9000 series, which is another major downside.

Why it matters: DLSS remains a far superior choice, and some people even count that as a factor when buying GPUs. Especially how good DLSS 4.5 is, AMD now has a lot more catching up to do.

Hardware Unboxed has released an in-depth analysis of FSR 4.1. It is the same as the leaked DLL files, so the results are similar. The image quality isn’t as great as Nvidia, but there are subtle improvements.

But the issues like compromised stability and lack of universal support are still there. Additionally, it doesn’t support Vulkan either, which locks it out from various titles, which isn’t ideal if you have an RX 9000 card.

FSR 4.1 comparison
FSR 4.1 still lags behind DLSS 4.5 in fine details

Moreover, Nvidia offers a lot of flexibility as you can choose your own DLSS version. AMD forces the FSR version on you, with no option to roll back to a previous version or change that using the app.

All in all, while FSR 4.1 is a bit of an upgrade in certain departments, the lack of wide support and software bugs still puts it a long race with Nvidia, where the latter is still too far ahead to catch up to.

What are your thoughts on FSR 4.1 not providing a meaningful upgrade? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum.

GTA 6: Rockstar Has Entire Team Dedicated To Next-Gen Glass Destruction Tech

Story Highlight
  • Rockstar Games is working on a procedural glass-breaking system for GTA 6.
  • A LinkedIn profile shows that an entire team was working on this system.
  • This is just one of the many elements expected to advance the simulation-based gameplay of the Grand Theft Auto series.

The GTA 6 release date draws nearer with each passing day, and many are excited at the prospect of Grand Theft Auto’s jump to the latest technology. In addition to dynamic weather, advanced water physics, and more interactive environments, GTA 6 is said to be adding a lot of new features to the series.

A discovery also reveals that Rockstar Games is working on an all-new glass-shattering technology for the game.

Why it matters: Rockstar Games is pushing the Grand Theft Auto series to its limits with GTA 6, so this is just one of the many big innovations fans can look forward to for the title.

GTA 6 Breakable Glass
GTA 6 Will Feature Advanced Breakable Glass Systems | Image via Twitter

The latest reveal comes from the LinkedIn profile of Brady Jessup, who worked as a Graphics Programmer for Rockstar Games. According to his profile, the developer worked at the studio between 2020 and 2023, taking the lead on the next-generation procedural system for breakable glass.

It is said that this system applies to both vehicles and props, setting the stage for more realistic glass-shattering physics and systems in GTA 6. Perhaps the game will allocate realistic properties to individual shards of glass as they shatter, creating more realistic scenarios and overall destruction.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Rockstar Games has attempted to incorporate detailed simulation elements for destruction. In the past, a game like GTA 4 was lauded for its detailed effects, like deflating vehicle tires and ragdolls, so GTA 6 appears to be continuing this legacy.

Also, since Brady Jessup was leading this project, it appears the studio had an entire team working on this system.

GTA 6 Launches Later This Year

It should be noted that this detail has since been removed from Brady Jessup’s LinkedIn profile, likely due to the secrecy surrounding GTA 6. However, with marketing for the game expected to kick off during the summer, fans could see a glimpse of this system in action very soon.

Xbox Mode Officially Launches For PC as Microsoft Gears Up for Major Integration

Story Highlight
  • Microsoft announced that the Xbox Mode will replace the full-screen mode at GDC.
  • The update has finally started rolling out, bringing in a fresh new user interface.
  • It also features some new features like Game Cards and improved performance.

Microsoft first announced that the Xbox mode would replace the already present full-screen mode at the recent GDC. It seems that the new software is now ready, as Microsoft prepares to launch its next step towards major PC integration.

The Xbox mode appears to be rolling out for PC, as users note that the full-screen experience now says ‘Xbox Mode’, instead of Xbox Full Screen as it used to. This aims to make Xbox/PC integration more accessible.

Why it matters: This is Microsoft’s answer to Steam’s Big Picture Mode, albeit they already had a similar thing last year. However, the new revamped UI does look like a better implementation.

Xbox Mode
Xbox Mode has started rolling out for PC users

Journalist Tom Warren detected that the Xbox Full Screen Experience has been rebranded to Xbox Mode in the latest update. The mode introduces a couple of new nifty features along with the revamped UI.

It has a new feature called Game Cards that shows a lot of information. You will be able to see your Cloud save sync for titles you’ve played on your consoles. So, it makes the link between Xbox and PC more coherent.

Marathon Has Sold 1.2 Million Copies But Less Than 20% Of Its Players Are On PS5

Story Highlight
  • Marathon has sold 1.2 million copies so far, with 70% of its audience coming from Steam.
  • Only 19% of the sales have come from PS5 players, with the platform having a lower playtime average than Xbox.
  • The extraction shooter has found an audience on Steam, averaging at 380k Daily Active Users.

Despite launching to surprisingly positive critical reviews that praised the game’s combat loop and difficulty, Marathon has failed to reach the peak of fellow extraction shooter Arc Raiders. The Bungie title opened to an underwhelming concurrent player count on Steam, failing to cross a 100k user peak.

Players have been critical of the game’s UI and its steep learning curve. However, despite all the pre-launch drama and its niche appeal, Marathon has found a dedicated player base, but most of it is on Steam.

Why it matters: The extraction shooter failing to find a massive audience on PS5 is another nail in the coffin of Sony’s misdirected live-service strategy.

Marathon sales
Source: Alinea Analytics

According to Alinea Analytics, Marathon has sold 1.2 million copies so far across all platforms, but only 19% of its players are on PlayStation 5.

The extraction shooter has grossed $55 million in revenue, making most of this amount on Steam, where it sold 800k copies compared to a measly 217k sales on PS5. Despite being a first-party Sony title, 70% of the game’s audience is on Steam, while Xbox accounts for 11% of Marathon’s players.

The Bungie title peaked at 478k Daily Active Users on Steam during its first Saturday and has since settled with a respectable 380k DAU average on the platform. Hence, even though the Marathon isn’t as easy to pick as Arc Raiders, players who have understood the mechanics have stuck around, at least on Steam.

bungie marathon
Marathon has failed to capture PS5 players despite being a Sony first-party game.

Moreover, 22% of the PC audience has already logged in 50-plus hours on the extraction shooter, while PS5 players have the lowest average playtime in the game across all platforms (16.5 hours).

Recent reports have suggested that Sony will be pulling back from PC releases for its first-party titles. However, considering how successful Marathon is on Steam compared to its underwhelming performance on PS5, the new strategy may not apply to live-service titles.

  • Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss’ stock price has increased by 24% today following the announcement of its 3 million sales.
  • The sock price initially surged 28% before stabilising following the launch of the Korean market today.
  • After mixed reviews decreased its stock price by 30% at release, Pearl Abyss has recovered very well by addressing issues with the title.

Following a messy launch, marred with mixed reviews, performance issues, and fan criticism, Crimson Desert has managed to turn the tide in just a few days. Developer Pearl Abyss has paid special attention to fan feedback, updating the game with patches immediately.

As a result, the open-world title has risen to a positive rating on Steam after opening with a score worse than Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Now, due to Crimson Desert returning to the good graces of players, the stock price of Pearl Abyss has also seen a massive surge.

Why it matters: Pearl Abyss has showcased how fan opinion can be changed by paying attention to the community and fixing the issues they have responsibly and swiftly.

Following the commercial success of Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss’ stock price has increased by a whopping 23.59%. After the Korean stock market opened today, the publisher’s stock value initially went up by 27.76% before stabilising.

Just recently, Crimson Desert officially passed 3 million copies sold worldwide despite opening to a mixed reception. Hence, it’s no surprise that the developer’s stock has shot up by such a huge margin even though the open-world title has been embroiled in controversies.

Due to Crimson Desert’s rollercoaster release week and underwhelming reception, Pearl Abyss initially lost 30% of its stock price on the market. However, the game has recovered really well by addressing concerns like AI-generated art swiftly and releasing updates to improve aspects like the janky controls and hard bosses.
