How Is This Keyboard Super Underrated? (Aula F87 Pro)

Story Highlights
  • The Aula F87 Pro is a super underrated and overlooked TKL budget keyboard, although it has premium features to offer at an affordable price.
  • It comes in eight different colour ways, with a 4000mAh or 8000mAh battery option, as well as north-facing and south-facing RGB options.
  • It sounds extremely creamy with the Leobog Greywood V4 linear switches, but there are options to get 4 more switches of your choice.

When it comes to keyboards from Aula, the Aula F75 is highly appreciated because of how well it is for a budget keyboard, but at the same time, it has become overhyped. It’s the TKL version; the Aula F87 Pro is often overlooked, and it is so underrated that you should get it instead. Let me explain why.

One Of The Best Budget TKLs out There

Unlike the Aula F75, which only comes in 4 colour themes, the Aula F87 Pro goes up a notch and offers not five, not six, but eight different colour schemes. Although it is a good thing to have multiple colours but it makes it a bit confusing to choose one colourway because usually people tend to like more than one.

Color-Way & Switches

Alongside the multiple colour options, this keyboard also comes with multiple switch options. These switches are: Nimbus Switch V3, Grey Wood, Grey Wood Switch V4, Leobog Space Crystal, and Reaper Switch.

I wish they had a tactile switch option because having a five-linear switch option is kind of pointless in my opinion. The Aula F87 Pro is a TKL layout, as the name suggests. It’s a gasket-mounted keyboard, which gives it a nice bouncy feel.

General Spec

The keyboard is fully hot swappable with both 5-pin and 3-pin switches. The spacing between the keys is very comfortable to type on. I find it weird to type on keyboards with overly squeezed keys, and there’s such a problem with the Aula F87 Pro.

The PCB is flex cut, which gives it a nice, sturdy feel when it comes to typing. The keyboard is advertised to have a 3mm response time. The keyboard features tri-mode connectivity just like other Bluetooth keyboards.

Battery & Keycaps

It comes with either a 4000mAh or an 8000mAh battery, which is a lot of juice for a keyboard. Without the RGB, you can easily go over two weeks with a single charge.

The double-shot PBT keycaps have a decent font where the colours are sharp and vivid. For me, keyboard font matters a lot because I’ve seen keyboards (such as the Corsair Mk2) with absurdly huge fonts which look downright ugly.

Aesthetics

Aesthetically, I prefer the north-facing RGB implementation more than the south-facing one, just because the RGB doesn’t leak down, and it looks premium. Regardless, in my opinion, the different colored non-shine-through keycaps make the keyboard look good without the need for RGB.

Moreover, the RGB on the side is pretty decent-looking, and it boosts the aesthetics when it glows uniformly. However, I’m not a big fan of the RGB strip present just above the arrow keys, as it is distractive for me.

Bear in mind, the version with normal printed letters has a non-shine-through keycap, which means the letters won’t glow in the dark. The north-facing RGB only affects around the keycaps.

But don’t worry if that’s not your thing, there is a version with side-printed shine-through keycaps, which has south-facing RGB. So, you get the best of both worlds. While the north-facing RGB on the non-shine-through keycap version looks good, it might interfere if you were to replace it with other switches.

Connectivity & Ports

The wired connectivity option is located on the top right side instead of the left side. I’d love it if it had been on the left side since I’m used to the Razer Huntman, which goes to show how it was ahead of its time.

The Bluetooth connectivity button is located at the top, which is convenient compared to some other keyboard brands, which put it under the space bar or even under the caps lock, which becomes a hassle to navigate.

Creamy Sound

Now comes the best part, the sound. The variant I’m talking about has the Leobog Greywood V4 linear switches. Compared to other switches of the same tier, these switches come in the same category as the Reaper switches, with smooth, creamy typing and consistent feel across the board.

The bottom-out is nice and smooth, but it does sound a little nicer on the Reaper switches. The stock stabilisers are very good, and this is one of the best things about Aula keyboards. They sound nice, are very consistent, and don’t have that rattle or ticking, which makes a keyboard feel cheap. And they don’t have any stickiness either.

Verdict

With all of these premium features, this keyboard still comes in a budget category, but it is still overlooked. Although keep in mind, Aula F87 Pro, or F87 Wireless, or simply F87 are all the same, but with different names on different websites.

AMD Patents Built-In Liquid Cooling for 3D Stacked Chips, Aiming to Eliminate Heatsinks

Story Highlight
  • A new patent published by AMD aims to provide localized liquid cooling for 3D stacked chips.
  • AMD aims to eliminate the use of external heatsinks or fans to dissipate heat near the chiplets, instead utilizing built-in cooling.
  • This technology can improve the performance and thermal efficiency of future AMD gaming and server processors.

Whether in high-end gaming rigs or data centers, heat buildup in high-performance systems has always been a concern. Companies like Nvidia and AMD often pitch wild ideas to increase thermal efficiency for their chip architectures.

Now, we have found a new AMD patent that proposes removing localized heat in 3D stacked chips as it builds up next to the chiplets, eliminating the need for external heatsinks or fans. Multiple dies are stacked vertically in a 3D stacked design, such as those using AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology.

For example, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Ryzen 9 7950X3D feature extra L3 cache via 3D stacking, while AMD’s MI300 and EPYC 9004 also utilize it to enhance server performance.

The systems and methods described herein provide localized and direct liquid cooling of the package (e.g., within the SOIC module) without requiring an additional heat sink, which enables thinner Z-height products. Using the lid as liquid inlet and outlet further simplifies the design.

Why it matters: The new AMD patent, which aims to improve 3D stacked chips, could eventually lead to better thermal efficiency across its gaming and server processor lineups with localized cooling.

The image shows direct cooling implementation on a SoIC architecture.

The patent called ‘DIRECT COOLING FOR SOIC ARCHITECTURES’ describes a 3D SoIC architecture where stacked dies are enclosed within a cover featuring fluid inlets and outlets. A fluid channel runs through gaps between stacked dies, and a pump circulates cooling liquid through them.

AMD argues that 3D stacked chips can overheat with traditional cooling, but localized cooling could make them slimmer and more thermally efficient.

The systems and methods provided relate to 3D SoIC architectures, which may suffer from poor heat removal and high temperature gradients. Some cooling solutions are not able to remove the localized heat from 3D SoIC architectures, limiting the thermal design power (TDP) of the SoIC products.

The flow diagram shows an exemplary method for fabricating an SoIC with direct cooling.

If realized, AMD’s patent could enable future Ryzen and server chips with 3D stacking to utilize localized liquid cooling instead of external heat sinks. This would result in better performance across the gaming and data center industries.

AMD has published numerous interesting patents in the past, including one that aims to save bricked GPUs after failed VBIOS updates with new software-based recovery, and another that discusses an incredibly complex chipset design for RDNA 5 GPUs

Do you think AMD will eliminate the need for external heatsinks and fans in its future iterations of the 3D stacked chip architecture? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Lost Soul Aside Reportedly Had an $8 Million Development Budget

Story Highlight
  • Lost Soul Aside’s release has drawn heavy criticism.
  • New details have surfaced online regarding the game’s development budget.
  • Reports suggest the developers made this project with an $8 million budget.

Lost Soul Aside was just released recently to mixed reviews and an underwhelming player count. The game peaked at just over 3,000 players three days ago, but that number has already been slashed in half.

Many fans expressed disappointment, saying that waiting over a decade for this game wasn’t worth it. As it stands, Lost Soul Aside suffers from several issues, although there are still some noteworthy aspects.

Unlike other Sony-backed titles, Lost Soul Aside did not have a massive budget or a large development team. According to recent reports, the game only cost $8 million to develop.

Why it matters: Today, delivering a polished, AAA-quality experience usually requires enormous budgets and teams, apart from rare gems like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Lost Soul Aside
Lost Soul Aside’s Earlier Impressions Were Also Underwhelming.

According to Bilibili, a fairly reliable source for leaks, new details about the game’s development have surfaced. The article breaks down everything from how the project began, the hurdles it faced, its development cost, and the size of the team behind it.

As you may already know, the game was originally a one-man project. Sony later picked it up, and the development team gradually expanded. While the original creator had a clear vision for the project, Sony, as the publisher, naturally had to step in, enforce its authority, and push for major changes.

When it comes to the development budget, Bilibili reports that it was around 20% of Black Myth: Wukong’s cost and about half the budget of Stellar Blade. Since Black Myth: Wukong cost approximately $40 million to develop, this puts Lost Soul Aside’s budget at around $8 million.

The pure development cost, from indirect info, was around 20% of Black Myth: Wukong’s budget, or about half of Stellar Blade’s.

Many have been criticizing the game by comparing it to franchises like Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry. However, these comparisons don’t hold up when you consider the vast differences in budget and team size.

For reference, the latest Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry games had hundreds of developers behind them. Of course, this doesn’t excuse the game’s poor launch, but the developers are aware of the criticism and are working hard to address it.

Fairgames’ Development Continues To Struggle As Game Director Leaves Studio

Story Highlight
  • Fairgames’ game director has left the studio as development hits another hurdle.
  • Haven Studios’ CEO also left back in May, indicating a not-so-good fate for the game.
  • Fairgames is supposed to release in 2026, but could be delayed even further.

Fairgames is supposed to be Sony’s next major live service title after the failure of Concord. It was announced around the same time as Bungie’s Marathon, and just like the latter, its development has struggled, and now it faces yet another hurdle.

According to a new report, Fairgames’ game director has quietly left Haven Studios after working there for over 4 years. Previously, Jade Raymond, the studio CEO, also left, causing trouble for the development.

Why it matters: Sony’s live service push doesn’t seem to be going well at all. Concord failed badly, Marathon and Fairgames both are going through troubled development, so things aren’t looking too good.

Fairgames
The game director has left Haven Studio, sparking concerns about the game’s development

Based on the game director’s profile, Daniel Drapeau, he left Haven Studios and joined WB Montreal as a creative director 2 months ago. It happened really quietly, also around the time rumors of Fairgames’ cancellation surfaced.

However, it was later confirmed that the title is still in development. Despite that, the results haven’t been too positive. Recent internal testing of the pre-alpha was reportedly disappointing, and the game felt generic.

Fairgame$
Fairgames seems to be on the same path as Concord

All in all, Fairgames’ fate appears to be very similar to Concord’s already. Sony has now also shifted its live service policy so that they don’t have to face a lot of loss if a game fails. Fairgames is now expected to be released in 2026, unless it is delayed beyond that.

What are your thoughts on Fairgames’ game director leaving the studio? Why do you think the development is struggling? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum

Hollow Knight Has Seen Over 600% Boost In Player Count Since Silksong’s Reveal

Story Highlight
  • Hollow Knight, released over eight years ago, has seen a massive resurgence in players.
  • Fueled by the hype of its sequel, Silksong, the game hit a new all-time peak of 70,000 players.
  • This marks a staggering 600% increase in player count compared to its numbers before Silksong’s reveal.

Hollow Knight was released back in 2017, and while it received critical acclaim, it didn’t initially attract a massive player base. At launch, its peak concurrent players on Steam were just around 2,000. Over time, however, the game slowly built momentum and eventually reached a new high of over 20,000 players in 2022.

Despite its slow start, anticipation for its sequel, Silksong, has been immense, even though details about the game remained scarce for years.

That silence finally broke during Gamescom, and the impact was immediate. Off the back of the reveal, Hollow Knight’s player count skyrocketed, climbing to new heights with more than a 600% increase in concurrent players compared to its pre-reveal numbers.

Why it matters: The hype surrounding a sequel can sometimes cause a surge in the player count of earlier entries in the series, but such significant increases are rare.

Hollow Knight Player Count
The Player Count of Hollow Knight Has Seen A Massive Increase Recently | Source: SteamDB

As shown in the image above, Hollow Knight recently hit a new all-time peak of over 70,000 concurrent players. This is remarkable, considering its previous peak before the reveal of Silksong was just above 20,000.

Before Gamescom, the game’s player count hovered around 9,000, meaning the jump of more than 60,000 players represents an increase of over 600%, a surge that highlights just how much anticipation the sequel has generated.

While surprising, the hype surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong is not something to underestimate. Several games originally scheduled to launch around its release window have even been delayed, showing just how much other developers respect, and perhaps fear, the attention this sequel commands.

Despite all the excitement, not much new has been revealed about the game itself. The demo shown at Gamescom was the same one previously showcased at E3 2019. Even the price has yet to be officially announced, but leaks suggest it will retail at $20. Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently set to release on September 4, 2025.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake: Xbox Series X Offers Smoothest Experience Among All Consoles

Story Highlight
  • Digital Foundry has released a detailed analysis of Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake on current-gen consoles.
  • Their findings reveal that Xbox Series X delivers the smoothest overall experience.
  • While Series X generally performs better, there are moments where PS5 and PS5 Pro pull ahead.

Metal Gear Solid 3 remake has received widespread criticism because of its poor performance. The game struggles to maintain 60 FPS on RTX 4090 at 4K max settings, which is pretty disappointing but now common for most AAA UE5 Games.

That said, the game struggles to maintain 60FPS in performance mode on consoles. However, experts note the Xbox Series X delivers the smoothest experience, outperforming both PS5 and PS5 Pro.

Why it matters: Beating the base PS5 isn’t shocking, but outperforming the PS5 Pro is unexpected, and sure to raise eyebrows.

Digital Foundry has released an in-depth analysis of Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PS5 Pro. According to their findings, the game fails to deliver a locked 60 FPS on any of the consoles, but the Xbox Series X manages to provide the smoothest overall experience.

In performance mode, the Series X not only delivers superior shading but also achieves a higher dynamic resolution compared to the PS5. On Series X, the game renders at 1152p, while the PS5 drops slightly lower at 1080p.

The bottom line is that Series X enjoys a performance lead over both PS5 machines. It positions Series X as the smoothest way to play on these three consoles.

-Digital Foundry

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
The Remake of MGS3 Has Received Positive Impressions From The Critics.

It’s also worth noting that on VRR-enabled displays, the Xbox Series X maintains frame rates that are typically 5 to 6 FPS higher than its competitors. When paired with its wider 40–60 Hz VRR range, this makes it the smoothest experience among the three consoles.

That said, there are instances where the PS5 and PS5 Pro briefly outperform the Series X in terms of frame rate, but on average, Microsoft’s console consistently delivers better overall performance.

Burnt RTX 5070 Suffers Major Damage After Capacitor Explosion

Story Highlight
  • A PNY RTX 5090 recently suffered from a blown capacitor and needed to be sent in for a warranty claim.
  • It seems an RTX 5070 from the same AIB has suffered from a similar problem now.
  • This is also not the first time hardware failures have been reported with Nvidia’s Blackwell gaming lineup.

Following a series of burnt GPUs at release, the RTX 5090 received a new report of an exploding capacitor very recently. This particular GPU came from PNY, with the user confirming that the incident had left the graphics card dead.

Another report along the same lines has now surfaced on Reddit. A GeForce RTX 5070 seems to have suffered a failed capacitor this time.

Why it matters: The poor quality control with the RTX 50 lineup is no secret. It seems graphics cards from certain AIBs are also prone to more failures than others.

Blown RTX 5070 Capacitor
The PNY RTX 5070 Was Damaged While Playing Marvel Rivals | Image via Reddit

Redditor Wujushu shared that he heard a loud ‘pop’ sound when playing Marvel Rivals. This was immediately followed by a burning smell, and a closer look at the PC confirmed that this smell came from the GPU itself.

According to the Redditor, the capacitor on this particular RTX 5070 seems to be the reason behind the sudden noise and smell. Interestingly, this RTX 5070 came from PNY, the same AIB responsible for the burnt RTX 5090 earlier this week.

Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that the user confirmed that this blown capacitor did not completely render his RTX 5070 useless. In fact, it seems the graphics card continued to function like nothing ever happened.

The user was still quick to shut down his system and now intends to pursue an RMA. Still, two back-to-back PNY RTX 50 GPU failures raise questions about the board partner’s quality control and manufacturing process.

As said earlier, Nvidia has faced its fair share of problems with the RTX 50 GPUs. Both in terms of performance and hardware failures, this lineup has not been the best representation of Nvidia.

The gaming giant is now gearing up to launch refreshed RTX 50 Super graphics cards soon, so extra caution must be taken to ensure such errors are not repeated with the new offerings.
