Arrowhead Studios Confirm Plans For Helldivers 3 In A New Statement

Story Highlight
  • While answering a fan query, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani has officially confirmed plans for Helldivers 3.
  • The next game is planned to feature a social hub space station like the Tower from Destiny 2.
  • That said, it is likely years away from launch, as the studio is currently focused on supporting Helldivers 2.

Update: Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani has clarified recent confirmation about the ‘next’ game having a social hub feature. Despite the heavy implication of it being Helldivers 3, Shams claims he was only referring to Arrowhead’s next game in question.

Ever since launch, Helldivers 2 has dominated the otherwise exhausting and populated live-service genre. It has been successful on PC by allegedly selling twice as many copies as on PS5. And on Xbox, the third-person shooter rolled over a million copies in less than a week.

While the entry is still seeing active updates and support from developers, it may only be a matter of time before we start seeing glimpses of Helldivers 3. Arrowhead Studios CEO Shams Jorjani has now officially confirmed plans for the next game.

Why it matters: Arrowhead confirming a major Helldivers 3 feature shows the team may already be in the middle of planning the core features for the next iteration. Fans have been extremely pleased after hearing the confirmation.

While answering a fan query on Discord, the Arrowhead CEO mentions that Helldivers 3 will feature a social hub feature like the Tower in Destiny 2, since it cannot be added in Helldivers 2. The blunt confirmation shows that the team is planning the next title in the IP.

It’s on the feature list for the next one.

And with creative director Johan confirming that he was working on a high concept for a new Arrowhead game late last year, many fans believe that work on Helldivers 3 has already started.

The community is quite happy after hearing the official confirmation of plans regarding Helldivers 3. However, the studio is currently mainly focusing on updating Helldivers 2.

Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 still has plenty of life left.

We may also see a lot of fan-requested crossovers for a while, like the most recent Halo collaboration. Therefore, most fans believe that Helldivers 3 will launch in the next 5-6 years at the very least.

Regardless, it’s also unclear whether Helldivers 3 will stick to using Arrowhead’s proprietary engine or transition to alternatives like Decima or UE5 due to potential restrictions.

Do you think Helldivers 3 will just be an iterative upgrade over the current popular live-service entry, or will it take the game’s concept to a new genre? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

AMD Patents New Blower Fan Design To Fix Gaming Laptop Heating Problems

Story Highlight
  • A new AMD patent reveals new dual and single outlet blower fan designs to enable better cooling for gaming laptops.
  • They are cheaper to manufacture, offer better reliability, and have a more compact design.
  • The dual fans introduce a directed wall jet over the device’s sidewall that flows along the chassis.

Gaming laptops are a convenient way to experience PC gaming within a thin form factor. However, they have notoriously been afflicted with heating issues due to poor heat dissipation. AMD may have now discovered a solution for this dilemma.

We have found a new patent published by AMD that discusses new dual and single outlet blower fan designs. Designed for thin PCs like gaming laptops, these fans offer improved cooling, more compact designs, and lower manufacturing costs.

In the dual outlet design, one outlet blows air along the housing while the other directs it at an obtuse angle toward the chassis. Together, they form a high-velocity wall jet that enhances chassis heat dissipation.

The unique geometry of novel dual outlet blower fan enables better cooling of the outside surfaces (Chassis…) of computing devices [such as laptops…], improved mechanical reliability of the fans, and lower cost of the fan assembly.

Why it matters: The new fan designs effectively dissipate heat with the new wall jet airflow, which can significantly reduce, if not fully eliminate, heating issues with gaming laptops.

Depicting top and bottom views of the dual outlet blower fan.

The patent called ‘DUAL OUTLET BLOWER TECHNOLOGY FOR ENHANCED HEAT TRANSFER IN THIN FORM FACTOR DEVICES’ also discusses a single outlet blower fan design. It uses a thermally conductive skin that extends from the fan towards the device’s outer chassis.

High-velocity airflow passes over the sheet, absorbing heat from nearby components and expelling it quickly through the outlet.

AMD argues that these novel fans don’t require cutting the sidewalls of the device. This ensures a less costly, more compact design that is also mechanically more reliable.

With the conventional dual outlet blower fan, a part of the frame (i.e., sidewall) needs to be cut to create an opening. This creates structurally weak point and additional reinforcement on the fan covers is typically required.

The block diagram shows a method for operating a computing device having a dual outlet blower fan.

The new fans create a wall jet impossible with current designs, which suffer from weak structure, diffused pressurizing airflow, and a lack of a skin-directed jet. Therefore, we can expect even more thermal efficiency in gaming laptops if AMD adopts this patent.

AMD has published a variety of other wild patents before, including one that talks about a smart cache memory management system to significantly boost processor performance and another that secures built-in liquid cooling for processors using 3D stacking

  • Using LG’s Automotive Content Platform, internet-selected cars will be able to stream Xbox games on screens.
  • The service will be available for those with Game Pass Ultimate, allowing access to hundreds of games.

Gaming brands having unexpected partnerships are not uncommon in the industry at this point. Now, with Microsoft’s goals to expand Xbox Cloud Gaming outside current tiers, the company is pushing the streaming service beyond the traditional expected devices.

Microsoft has now announced a partnership with LG to bring its assortment of Xbox games to select cars using the popular cloud gaming service. The cars using LG’s webOS Automotive Content platform will be able to stream Xbox games directly on screens.

Why it matters: Xbox bringing its services to internet-connected vehicles appears to be the next step in its ‘This Is An Xbox’ marketing campaign. The announcement has been met with amusement and criticism from gamers online.

As announced by Xbox News Wire, the service is available to players with Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions. Car passengers will be able to play hundreds of popular Xbox hits to stay entertained while on the go—of course, in compliance with driving safety regulations.

Game Pass Ultimate members will soon have instant access to hundreds of games including popular titles like Gears of War: ReloadedForza Horizon 5, and upcoming releases like Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds 2.

This is Microsoft’s next major push in the ‘This Is An Xbox’ marketing campaign to expand its gaming ecosystem. The company has already used the new marketing campaign on Xbox Rog Ally handhelds and some quite unexpected products in the past.

Doom: The Dark Ages On ROG Xbox Ally X
Xbox has been using this new marketing campaign with many other products.

Regardless, many Xbox fans and critics alike have found the new partnership unnecessary. A lot have criticized the brand online for focusing on unneeded gimmicks instead of attracting new audiences to buy Xbox consoles.

Do you think Microsoft bringing Xbox over to a select few cars is what the brand needs to appease gamers, or is this just another wild marketing stunt? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Almost Half Of Hollow Knight: Silksong Players Are Soulslike Fans

Story Highlight
  • Analysis reveals that a huge chunk of Hollow Knight: Silksong players play soulslike games.
  • This explains who the game’s target demographic is and why it is so brutal at times.
  • Team Cherry will release an update to manage difficulty in the initial stages of the game.

Hollow Knight: Silksong just released to an enormous player base, showcasing how important indie releases have become for the industry. Amid all the positivity, people have complained about the game being too difficult, and there’s a reason for it.

According to a survey, most of Hollow Knight: Silksong players are also soulslike fans, so the difficulty is something they prefer rather than take it as a negative. This makes the difficulty quite understandable.

Why it matters: The negative reviews for the game highlight that it can be a bit frustrating at times because it is too difficult for the general audience. However, the target audience admires that part.

Over half of Hollow Knight: Silksong players are soulslike fans

Alinea Analytics has revealed that over half of Hollow Knight: Silksong players also play soulslike games. These include Elden Ring, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne, with the first one being the most popular among the fans.

This explains why the difficulty isn’t that big of a problem for most people. Also, this isn’t something Team Cherry has done for the sequel; the original title wasn’t easy either. Nonetheless, the Silksong is a lot more brutal.

Fans describe that Hollow Knight: Silksong can be ‘Brutal’ and ‘Unforgiving’ at times

However, the good news for casuals is that Team Cherry has revealed that the title’s first post-launch patch will balance out difficulty, especially in the initial stages. The patch will also bring in bug fixes and other improvements.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Has Reached 5 Million Players In Just 3 Days Since Release

Story Highlight
  • Hollow Knight: Silksong released 3 days ago and has already reached 5 million players.
  • It has also sold 3 million copies on Steam, generating over $50 million in revenue.
  • The sales figures on other platforms, like Nintendo, also seem to be really promising.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was perhaps the most-awaited indie game of all time. Announced in 2019, the game experienced a prolonged absence before finally receiving a 2025 release window. After years of waiting, it seems it was all worth the wait

In just 3 days since its release, Hollow Knight: Silksong has surpassed 5 million players across all platforms. It became such a massive hit at launch that it crashed the storefronts of almost all available platforms.

Why it matters: The first Hollow Knight was a massive success, praised for its wonderful gameplay and environment. Naturally, the hype for the title was high, and the results speak for themselves.

Hollow Knight: Silksong has managed to break past 5 million players in just 3 days

According to data from Alinea Analytics, Silksong has surpassed 5 million players. While they don’t have figures for all platforms, on Steam, it has sold over 3 million copies, hit a CCU of 587K players, and generated $50 million in revenues.

Moreover, it is also available on Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles. Switch also seems like a very natural console to play such kinds of games, so we can expect it to sell well on that, too.

The title has also managed a whopping 3 million copies sold on Steam already

It is truly remarkable how big the franchise has become since it was first revealed. Many criticized it and claimed it is poised to fail. Years later, it is now the biggest indie launch of this year and has even outpaced many AAA releases.

This also reignites the discussion about how indie games are slowly taking over the industry. Games like REPO, Schedule I, and now Silksong have dominated this year, and it seems that it will continue down the line.

Sucker Punch Hints At More Than One Playable Character in Ghost of Yotei

Story Highlight
  • Ghost of Tsushima featured only one playable character, so it was expected to be the same in its spin-off sequel.
  • However, the developer has strongly hinted that there is going to be more than one playable character.
  • This adds to the excitement and leads to speculation by the fandom.

Ghost of Yotei, a spin-off sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, was revealed during the most recent PlayStation State of Play. The announcement took everyone by surprise, but the game has been receiving mixed reactions from fans.

Despite the criticism, the hype remains strong. With less than a month to go before release, more details are starting to emerge. Sucker Punch recently hinted at the possibility of more than one playable character, which is sure to spark even more excitement and speculation.

Why it matters: Ghost of Tsushima featured only one playable character, so it would be a fun and interesting addition to see more than one in its spin-off sequel if that’s the case.

Nate Fox, one of the directors of Ghost of Yotei, was recently interviewed by MinnMax. The YouTuber asked him 125 rapid-fire questions, and among them was whether there is only one playable character in Ghost of Yotei.

Interestingly, Nate Fox didn’t say anything in response, but his expression was priceless and strongly hinted that there might be another playable character.

The YouTuber then replied with a knowing “interesting,” in a tone that suggested he also sensed something was being kept under wraps.

Ghost of Yotei will offer more player freedom than any other Sucker Punch game.

If there is going to be another playable character in the game, that’s sure to excite even more of the fandom.

While it’s difficult to say who the second character might be, some fans speculate it could be Jin Sakai through some sort of past arc. However, that may be a bit too optimistic, so it’s probably best not to get your hopes up.

In the same interview, the game’s director revealed several interesting details. The story will be longer than its predecessor, and Atsu is not related to Jin Sakai, nor has he even heard of him. It’s also worth noting that the wolf companion won’t be directly controllable by the player.

Gearbox CEO Warns Borderlands 4 Could Struggle on Older Hardware

Story Highlight
  • Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford recently took to social media to address the Borderlands 4 performance issue.
  • He warned that low-spec PCs might not be able to deliver great results in the game.
  • Early testing shows that not even the RTX 5080 can output a stable 60FPS with DLSS enabled.

While Gearbox Studios has high expectations for Borderlands 4, things aren’t looking great for the developer since its goal to sell 6 million units at launch may not be achievable. The reason why that is so is that Borderlands 4 seems to be a technical mess.

Almost all early previews have pointed to the game’s bad performance. In reply to that, the Gearbox CEO clearly stated that older hardware may not provide buttery smooth performance for the latest-gen AAA games.

Why it matters: Modern AAA games are devoid of optimisation, and it’s the biggest aspect that studios continue to neglect. For $70, one would think that they’d get a polished release, but that’s no longer the case these days.

Randy Pitchford Addressing Borderlands 4 Performance Concerns || Social Media

In a discussion regarding Borderlands 4 performance, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford weighed in on the discussion with a surprisingly long comment. The boss said that ‘expectation for using a below min-spec machine should be that the game is unplayable.’

He further stated that older hardware may not provide buttery smooth performance for the latest-gen AAA games. Pitchford’s comment seems rather valid, but the person he was replying to was running an RTX 3070, i7-12700K, and 16GB RAM.

Still, the game struggled to output 60FPS even on a measly 1080p resolution with a low preset. Moreover, the game was also occasionally stuttering, freezing, and hitching.

The expectation for using a below min-spec machine should be that the game is unplayable.

Just for reference, the minimum requirements for Borderlands 4 are an RTX 2070, an i7-9700, and 16GB RAM.

Borderlands 4 System Requirements Too High For 50% Of Steam Users

There’s a day one patch ready for the title, and even if it does ‘a lot’, Pitchford’s entire answer suggests that it won’t be a transformative update to increase performance magically.

Previously, it was reported that even the RTX 5080 struggled to output 60FPS with Borderlands 4 with DLSS enabled. Switch 2 performance is also subpar, and for a game like Borderlands 4, expect it to be near-unplayable on the handheld.

Concord Doesn’t Deserve To Be Remebered As The Greatest Flop of All Time, Says Ex Dev

Story Highlight
  • Concord was taken offline just two weeks after launch. According to a report, it cost Sony $400 million to develop.
  • It was hailed as the biggest failure in the history of gaming.
  • However, one of its former developers believes the game shouldn’t be remembered as the greatest flop of all time.

Concord was released almost a year ago, but just two weeks after launch, the game was taken offline. Those who had purchased it were refunded, and its story came to an abrupt end. Some reports suggested that the game resulted in a massive $400 million loss, potentially making it one of the biggest failures in gaming history.

That would certainly mark a tremendous setback for the gaming giant, but one of the game’s former developers disagrees. He believes Concord doesn’t deserve to be remembered as the biggest flop of all time.

Why it matters: Concord had been facing criticism long before its release, so its failure felt almost inevitable, but few expected the game’s budget to be this high.

Concord gaming
Concord’s developer previously said they will always be proud of their work.

On the latest episode of the A Life Well Wasted podcast, one of the former developers of Concord shared his thoughts on the game being labelled as the greatest flop of all time. He believes the game doesn’t deserve that title.

Greatest flop of all time – I don’t feel like it deserves that.

Another developer expressed that gamers missed out, simply because not many had the chance to play it before it was inevitably taken offline just a couple of weeks after launch. He added that since people will now never get the opportunity to experience the game, they missed out in a big way.

Fairgame$ May Meet The Same Fate As Concord

He summed up his feelings by calling Concord “the most beautiful car we’ve ever crashed.”

The game received heavy criticism, and several reports claim it cost a massive amount of money, making it a strong contender for the biggest flop in gaming history.

Infamous Devs Willing To Outsource Remaster To Another Studio

Story Highlight
  • Sucker Punch previously expressed interest in seeing Infamous return.
  • Ghost of Yotei’s director is also on board with another studio handling a potential re-release.
  • Teams like Bluepoint or Virtuos would be perfect for the task due to prior experience with remasters and remakes.

The Infamous franchise has long been considered one of PlayStation’s best-rated first-party IPs. Despite its absence from the gaming industry, fan demand for a new Infamous entry has not waned over the years.

In fact, fans, now more than ever, hope to see PlayStation revisit this series. Sucker Punch itself has expressed interest in a potential return to Infamous, with the Ghost of Yotei director recently commenting on a potential re-release from a third-party team.

Why it matters: Sucker Punch has its hands full with Ghost of Yotei and expanding this IP through the upcoming film. Therefore, outsourcing Infamous would not be such a bad idea.

Speaking to MinnMax, the Ghost of Yotei director recently answered questions regarding his upcoming game and Sucker Punch’s past releases.

On the subject of Infamous, the director was first asked to rank all the games in the series. He ranked the first title as the best, suggesting that it remains his personal favorite all these years later.

When asked whether he would be okay with another studio potentially reviving the series, the director showed optimism and gave the green light.

That’s be great.
