As Xbox Ally X Continues To Sell Well, Time Magazine Calls It One of The Best Inventions of 2025

Story Highlight
  • Time Magazine calls the ROG Xbox Ally X one of the best inventions of 2025.
  • The handheld is made by Asus ROG in collaboration with Xbox.
  • It released after the first-party Xbox handheld device couldn’t become a reality.

A couple of months ago, the gaming industry was filled with the buzz of a dedicated Xbox handheld console coming our way. However, that couldn’t become a reality; instead, we got a pretty good alternative in the form of the ROG Xbox Ally X.

Now, Time Magazine has hailed the Xbox Ally X as one of the best inventions of 2025. It denotes as gaming has become more portable, the handheld makes more sense than ever and delivers a great experience.

Why it matters: While it isn’t technically a first-party Xbox product, it comes as a part of a partnership with Asus, and despite a steep price delivers great value with impressive performance.

ROG Xbox Ally X has been hailed as one of the best inventions of 2025

The Xbox Ally X made Time Magazine’s list, along with some other things that came out in 2025. Its place is also justified considering it’s one of the most powerful handhelds you can currently buy, albeit at the $1000 price.

But that isn’t bothering the consumers either, as the top variant of the handheld’s pre-orders are already sold out, and the other variants are also doing well. There is the basic ROG Ally X, but the Xbox one has a few advantages.

Despite the higher price, its pre-orders were sold out

Xbox Ally X receives the new upgraded AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip with a high power draw, and the performance gain is quite apparent. The handheld faired really well with Doom: The Dark Ages, getting over 70 FPS at 1080p with ray tracing.

So, yes, the price is quite high, but the Xbox Ally X is a great device and does justify its place amongst the best inventions of the year. However, the market is getting really interesting with rumors of a PS6 handheld coming soon.

Survey Shows Only 16% of Fans Plan to Buy GTA 6 If It Costs Over $100

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 is expected to have lower sales and revenue if it’s priced at $100, according to MIDiA research.
  • Only 16% of consumers are interested in buying the game at a price higher than optimal.
  • On the other hand, 8.6% of the US adult population will buy the game at $69.99.

Calling GTA 6 the most anticipated video game of all time seems like an understatement at this point. Gamers have been waiting for the Rockstar title for more than a decade, and the publisher has also been teasing fans by claiming the game will be the biggest launch in history.

Many industry veterans have referred to GTA 6 as the first AAAAA title, and as a result, fans are concerned about its pricing. According to new research, Rockstar should not price GTA 6 above $70 if it wants to maximize its profits.

Why it matters: Studies like these may not deter Rockstar from pricing the game at $100, but they do demonstrate that most consumers are unwilling to spend such a large amount of money.

GTA 6 Traffic & Population Density
GTA 6 is carrying a budget of $1 billion.

According to a report from the gaming analysis firm MIDiA Research, pricing GTA 6 at $100 will reduce the overall sales of the game and also cut into the profit Rockstar will make from the title.

To reach this conclusion, MIDiA conducted a survey involving more than 2,000 people, 79% of whom would buy the game if it were priced closer to $69.99, compared to a measly 16% who would be willing to splurge more than $100 to get a taste of GTA 6.

Perry Gresham, the report’s co-author, explained that increasing the price to $100 would result in a loss of revenue for Rockstar Games, as the money it makes from people who purchase GTA 6 at a higher cost would be less than the money it is losing due to players not willing to spend more than the optimal price.

GTA 6
GTA 6 is expected to sell 20 million units at launch.

Furthermore, the report states 8.6% of the US adult population would purchase the game at the standard $69.99 price, leading to 22.9 million salesHowever, only 9% would buy GTA 6 for over $100, which, despite being more than the average price, would result in a loss of money for Rockstar.

Hence, this report serves as a caution for every developer looking to increase prices, as per Gresham. Ex-Rockstar devs have claimed that GTA 6 deserves the $80 price tag, but many in the gaming industry are wary of the knock-off effect this increase will have on AAA titles.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Dev Says Next Game May Not Be An RPG

Story Highlight
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 director has revealed Sandfall’s next game could switch genres.
  • Guillaume Broche insisted that he doesn’t want to restrict his team to one art style or story.
  • Hence, he is yet to decide what pattern the studio’s next game will follow, and it could be an RPG.

2025 has had a lot of hit indie video games, but by far the most coveted of them all has been Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The game has sold over 5 million copies around the globe and has also earned acclaim from every corner of the industry, with many hailing it as the Game of the Year.

Of course, with such resounding success, many players want a sequel to the RPG, and developer Sandfall Interactive has teased this follow-up multiple times. However, if the game’s director is to be trusted, the studio’s next game could be very different.

Why This Matters: In a time where creative endeavours are of less importance than revenue, it’s nice to see a studio push creative bounds in the industry.

“We don’t want to be constrained by story, art style or gameplay in whatever we want to make next.”

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s sequel has been teased many times.

In a new interview with The Washington Post, creative director Guillaume Broche stated that he doesn’t want Sandfall Interactive to be constrained by genres, so he isn’t sure if the studio’s next game will be an RPG or not.

The Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 director emphasized that whatever the studio makes will be authentic and filled with love. However, he doesn’t want its nature to be set in stone, as his small team would be restricted to a certain art style, story, or gameplay.

Brauche didn’t rule out making his next title an RPG like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but made it very clear that the genre of Sandfall’s next game could switch genres.

This artistic vision is the exact reason Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sold out in stores and even got acclaim from the French President.

Sandfall has also previously stated that they have several ideas for a sequel, and with new content coming to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, there is some time before these plans get revealed.

Battlefield 6 Review Roundup – First-Person Shooter Greatness Achieved Once Again

Story Highlight
  • Battlefield 6 reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and it may be the best the series has had to offer in years.
  • Most praise the addictive multiplayer modes, which are filled with variety and numerous options.
  • While the game does suffer from a lacklustre campaign mode, there isn’t much else to criticise.

Battlefield 6 has been the talk of the town as EA is finally making a comeback following the disappointing reception of the last two entries, particularly Battlefield 2042. Battlefield 6 is finally a true return to form for the series, promising the authentic military experience that has been missing for years.

Just a day before the full launch, the review embargo for the game has been lifted. If anything, the reviewers have been praising the game from top to bottom, aside from the underwhelming campaign that shouldn’t be a dealbreaker at all.

Why it matters: The Battlefield franchise has been long overdue for a comeback and has a lot to prove to its fans. Fortunately, they have redeemed themselves and carved an optimistic future for the series.

battlefield 6
5 Million Sales Expected In Just A Week

Currently, Battlefield 6 holds a generally favorable score of 83 on Metacritic. This represents a significant improvement over its predecessor, which achieved a subpar score of 67 on the same platform.

Anyway, here are some of the scores the game received from fellow publications.

  • Gamerant 9/10
  • PlayStation Lifestyle 9/10
  • PCGamesN 9/10
  • Eurogamer 4/5
  • TheGamer 4/5
  • VGC 4/5
  • TechRaptor 8/10
  • Gamesradar 8/10

Military FPS games have high standards and require a lot of quality elements to please fans. Fortunately, Battlefield 6 has managed to do exactly that, with reviewers praising it as a true return to the series’ roots and evoking the same ‘wow’ factor that earlier games in the series did.

Multiplayer mode is where the game truly shines, delivering an outstanding, grounded experience that will keep players hooked for hours. The revamped class modes work absolutely well, and there is are ton of variety with different modes such as large-scale battles or cramped team deathmatches.

Battlefield Shouldn’t Consider CoD A Competitor This Year

Visually, Battlefield 6 is jaw-dropping, and EA’s proprietary DICE engine truly manages to shine here. Performance-wise, the game is also quite lenient on hardware, with up to 120 FPS modes offered on consoles.

That said, Battlefield 6 does have its flaws, specifically the game’s campaign mode. Single-player mode returns, but it isn’t a shock value. Most of the plot details are clichéd, and reviewers even call it an attempt to copy CoD. However, after seeing the reviews, EA’s FPS is way ahead of the competition.

Xbox Co-Founder Says Game Pass Price Increase Is A Betrayal To Fans

Story Highlight
  • Xbox co-founder says Microsoft is stuck in a bubble and has stopped listening to fans.
  • The Game Pass, as well as the console price hikes, were a betrayal to loyal users.
  • She also slammed ‘This is an Xbox’ movement and says it hurt the brand more.

Xbox has been a constant part of the news in the last few days, and all for the wrong reasons. The Game Pass price increase is currently the biggest headline in the gaming industry, and the backlash can be heard from every corner.

Even the Xbox co-founder says that the Game Pass hike is a betrayal to loyal fans. It shows the company considers greed over gaming as the service doesn’t provide value, which made it so popular among the masses.

Why it matters: Fans do share the sentiment that Game Pass isn’t a good deal anymore, as you are $360 for the Ultimate to not own a single game, and they are already boycotting the subscription service.

Laura Fryer, ex-long-term Microsoft employee and Xbox co-founder, has slammed the company for the price increase. She says that Microsoft is out of touch with its consumers and is filled with greed.

Xbox threw away one of their last advantages: they were the best deal in gaming. These price hikes feel like a betrayal. Greed over gaming.

– Laura Fryer

She said that Xbox is stuck in a bubble, and the Game Pass, as well as the console price increases, weren’t justified. Xbox once represented something cool and innovative, which unfortunately doesn’t exist anymore.

Fryer also criticized the ‘This is an Xbox‘ movement as it destroys everything they worked so many years to build. Instead of helping the cause, the movement is pushing people away from the consoles.

Game Pass was the best thing in gaming (value-wise) for the fans, and Microsoft threw it away. Fryer’s frustration is quite evident with these statements, and she is the voice of the fans who were also taken aback by the new changes.

All of the Weapons in Valorant (2025 Guide)

Story Highlight
  • Winning rounds in Valorant is more about managing your money and choosing the right weapon for the situation than always buying the most expensive gun.
  • Knowing the specific purpose of each weapon is crucial to winning.
  • Each weapon in Valorant has its own role.

Valorant’s gunplay is what makes it so addictive; every shot, every peek, every duel feels responsive. Whether you’re clutching a 1v3 or eco-rushing with your squad, knowing your weapons can seriously change the outcome.

Each gun has its own role, and learning how to use them (and when to buy them) is what separates the fraggers from the feeders. For example, you can’t be running around with a Stinger and expecting to win long-range aim duels against someone with a rifle. This is why the knowledge of weapons in Valorant is crucial to winning a round.

Valorant’s whole economy might revolve around Credits, but for me, the real fun begins when skins come into play. I’ve always liked giving my weapons some personality, as there’s just something satisfying about landing a headshot with a Vandal skin that actually feels yours.

Over time, I’ve found a few ways to get cheap Valorant Points so I can grab the skins I really want without going overboard. Just remember: a slick Vandal skin won’t save you if your aim’s not on point, but hey, at least you’ll look good doing it.

Sidearms

Valorant Side Arms
The Classic.

Sidearms are your best friends during pistol and eco rounds. The Classic is free and surprisingly reliable; it’s got burst fire for close fights and enough control to handle longer duels.

The Shorty (300 Credits), on the other hand, is a tiny monster up close; it’s useless at range, but deadly if someone walks into your crosshair. Then there’s the Frenzy (450 Credits), which turns you into a mini-SMG if you can manage the recoil.

The Ghost (500 Credits) has always been my go-to for pistol rounds – quiet, clean, and accurate. And of course, the Sheriff (800 Credits) is the hand cannon of Valorant. One well-placed headshot and it’s game over. It’s high risk, high reward, but there’s nothing more satisfying.

SMGs

When I’m playing aggressively or holding tight corners, SMGs feel like the perfect middle ground. The Stinger (1,100 Credits) is chaotic but deadly up close; it sprays like crazy, but if you get the drop on someone, they’re done.

The Spectre (1,600 Credits) is a bit more balanced, with smoother recoil and better accuracy. It’s the go-to pick for bonus rounds or when you want a reliable gun without spending too much.

Shotguns

Shotguns are niche, but in the right hands, they’re terrifying. The Bucky (850 Credits) is cheap but hits hard if you play smart with positioning. Its alternate fire gives it a surprising range when used right.

The Judge (1,850 Credits), though, is pure chaos. Fully automatic and devastating at close range, it’s the gun that turns hallways into nightmares.

Rifles

Valorant Phantom Rifle
Phantom is great for spamming smokes.

Rifles are the backbone of Valorant’s gunplay. The Bulldog (2,050 Credits) is a solid budget option with burst-fire capability, great for when you’re saving but still want some power. The Guardian (2,250 Credits) is a semi-automatic rifle that rewards precise players who take their time and land accurate shots.

Then there’s the eternal debate: Phantom (2,900 Credits) versus Vandal (2,900 Credits). I’ve swapped between them countless times, and honestly, it just depends on how I’m feeling.

The Phantom’s silenced shots make it perfect for spamming into smokes and close-to-mid engagements, but it’s not a one-shot headshot weapon. The Vandal, meanwhile, is all about consistency, as it hits the same damage at any range, which makes it my pick when I’m feeling confident.

Both dominate the rifle meta, and for good reason.

Sniper Rifles

Valorant Operator
The Operator is a one-shot kill sniper in Valorant.

Snipers are for players who live for that one clean shot. The Marshal (950 Credits) is cheap but efficient, with quick scope time and solid accuracy. It’s great for eco rounds or aggressive peeks.

The Outlaw (2,400 Credits), which joined the lineup more recently, feels like a hybrid between a rifle and a sniper. It fires two shots before reloading, perfect for quick flicks and fast trades.

Then there’s the Operator (4,700 Credits), the king of all snipers. It’s expensive, but nothing else in the game matches the satisfaction of landing a body shot and watching your opponent drop instantly.

Heavy Weapons

When you just want to hold an angle and melt anything that moves, heavy weapons have your back. The Ares 1,600 Credits) gives you solid fire rate and control, making it great for spamming through walls or holding tight sites.

The Odin (3,200 Credits), on the other hand, is pure firepower. It’s expensive, heavy, and loud, but it absolutely dominates when used correctly, as we saw with NRG’s Brawk destroying FNATIC using Odin in the grand finals of VCT Paris.

You’ll see it often on maps like Ascent, where players use it to lock down chokepoints or wall-bang through mid.

Melee

Valorant Knife
The knife in Valorant makes you run slightly faster.

The Tactical Knife makes you move faster and can deal heavy damage in close range (especially from behind). Most players grab knife skins just for flex, and let’s be honest, it’s one of the best ways to show off your style.

Valorant’s weapons are made for balance and creativity. There’s something for every situation, and learning how to use them keeps the game fun even after years of playing. Learn spray patterns, manage your economy, and pick the right gun for each round.

If you’re playing Ranked, remember it’s not always about having the most expensive gun. It’s about using what you have to outsmart your opponent. Whether it’s a Sheriff in a low-buy round or an Operator in a full-buy, make every shot count.

Activision Says Almost 98.8% Of Black Ops 7 Beta Matches Are Free Of Cheaters

Story Highlight
  • Activision’s anti-cheat system has removed most of the cheaters from Black Ops 7 Beta.
  • Stats reveal that as of day 5, 98.8% of matches are free of any cheaters.
  • The results are solid and highlight why Activision was so confident in its system.

Cheaters in online games are a big issue, and we saw that with the recent Battlefield 6 beta as well. Despite requiring secure boot to work, they still somehow find their way into the servers, but Black Ops 7 beta has eliminated most of them.

Team Richochet, Activision’s anti-cheat system, has revealed that almost 98.8% of Black Ops 7 beta games as of day 5 are free of cheaters. This percentage has been rising with every beta day, pointing to an effective system.

Why it matters: Even before the beta’s launch, the studio stated that there would be cheaters, but it is confident in its anti-cheat system, and the stats show that the confidence was right.

Most of the Black Ops 7 cheaters have been removed from the servers

Team Ricochet has launched stats for the percentage of Black Ops 7 beta matches that were free of cheaters over the 5 days. On the first day, cheaters flooded into the game, but the system removed them, achieving a 97.5% rate.

As of today, you will hardly come across any cheaters, and even if you do, the system will lock them out the moment it detects them. The system seems solid and ready for the game’s eventual launch in November.

Black Ops 7
Black Ops 7 beta is struggling with fewer players than expected

However, Activision needs much more than just a good anti-cheat system to succeed this year. With many fans already switched over to Battlefield 6, Call of Duty is facing one of its most difficult years in terms of player count.

What are your thoughts on Black Ops 7 beta’s solid anti-cheat system? Are you Team Call of Duty or Battlefield this year? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum.

Silent Hill f Producer Says Industry Won’t Evolve If Big Companies With Money Don’t Take Risks

Story Highlight
  • Silent Hill f producer says that unless big companies with money take risks, the industry will stagnate.
  • He asks young developers to convince their publishers to try something different.
  • His work on Silent Hill f is a testament to that matter, and the game’s performance figures speak for themselves.

One of the primary reasons why indie and AA games are thriving so much in today’s climate, even outselling major AAA games, is a simple one: risk-taking. Typically, big publishers are cautious nowadays, with AAA game budgets exceeding hundreds of millions of dollars; there is little to no room for failure.

Silent Hill f producer has weighed in on this matter. The developer says that unless big companies with money take risks, the economy and industry won’t move forward at all.

Why it matters: The Majority of video games nowadays are homogenous, and every publisher is too busy replicating the success of other games.

silent hill f producer urge take risks
Renowned Developer On The Industry’s Way Forward

Posting on social media, Motoi Okamoto discussed how indie devs use promotional videos and crowd response to decide whether to make the game or not. He also stated that big publishers can’t do the same without risking damage to their brand image.

As such, Okamoto urges young developers to convince their companies to take proper risks. However, he does understand that inexperienced staff members can’t actually force companies to take these steps, but veterans shouldn’t walk this path.

Still, the producer’s statement is essentially on point, suggesting that without undertaking risks, the industry has no way forward.

It’s about putting your money where your mouth is.

Okamoto’s latest work on Silent Hill f is a testament to his claims. Taking the series to Japan for the first time, and with an unconventional combat system, the horror game was actually quite well received.

Silent Hill 3 Remake Arrives in 2028

That said, future Silent Hill games will follow a different formula to avoid repetitiveness.

Furthermore, the success of recent games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Hollow Knight has forced publishers to rethink their approach. Gamers aren’t willing to spend money on something that doesn’t sound appealing or different.

Clair Obscur Director Says ‘AAA Budget’ Would’ve Made The Game Worse

Story Highlight
  • Many fans love Clair Obscur because it is straightforward and respects people’s time.
  • Not having a ‘AAA budget’ helped the studio stick to the core elements that fans like.
  • Sandfall’s title is one of the best-reviewed games this year, and a solid GOTY contender.

The gaming industry has become a weird place right now. Most big companies associate massive budgets with game success, and that has heavily backfired in the past. That wasn’t the case with Clair Obscur, and that’s why it worked

According to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 director, a massive ‘AAA budget’ would’ve made the game worse. He says that would’ve forced them to increase the scope of the game, and it wouldn’t have been the same fun.

Why it matters: Games like Clair Obscur prove that you don’t need to have a huge budget, a shiny open-world, and more to make a great game. You just have to do the things the basics right and everything falls into place.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Clair Obscur had an estimated budget of less than $30 million

Talking to Automation Media, creative director Guillaume Broche talked about how having a limited budget was a blessing in disguise for them. It meant that the game would be straightforward and respect the players’ time.

In some ways, having a limited budget and resources is helpful to narrow down the scope of a title and distill the vision to the core elements that make it great. and maybe having unlimited scope and budget would’ve made it a less engaging game for our players.

– Guillaume Broche

Clair Obscur doesn’t have any unnecessary fleshing out, so you just jump into it, follow the story, and have a great time. If Sandfall had unlimited resources, this might’ve never happened, and it might not have turned out the same.

The title is a solid GOTY contender

This makes a lot of sense, as high budgets mean a bigger scope as well. While it works in some games, in others, when the scope is bigger, sometimes things turn bland, making the overall experience mediocre.

Then there is also the fact that in the current industry, you can’t really be too sure. Budgets have become so high that it has led to cancellations and studio closures. Now, more studios are pivoting towards more manageable budgets.

Do you think not having a AAA budget helped Clair Obscur? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum.

Leadership Problems at Halo Studio Raise Concerns For Next Game In The Series

Story Highlight
  • A new report reveals that there are some serious leadership issues at the Halo Studio.
  • Various staff members, including studio veterans, left quietly and were furious.
  • Fans are concerned about next Halo game, expected to be announced later this month.

Halo was the defining title when the Xbox was first introduced into the gaming market. Widely regarded as one of the best shooter games, the franchise has since fallen quite low, and doesn’t have the same influence on in industry as it used to.

Nonetheless, every new release is still an interesting prospect as there is still a massive fan base. Amid rumors of the next Halo game being revealed later this month, it seems there are some major leadership issues at the studio.

Why it matters: Constant changes in the team, especially a shake-up in the leadership team, are always a bad prospect as it negatively affects the development because of creative and other differences.

According to Rebs Gaming, well-known for his Halo leaks, has confirmed that there are leadership problems at Halo Studios, which raise concerns for their next game. Some major people have already left the studio.

Veteran Halo director, Glenn Israel, who was at the studio since 2010, recently left and penned a note that he can’t compromise on dignity and values. He says he’ll share more of his story next when it’s safe to do so.

Fans are concerned about the next Halo game as leadership issues arise at the studio

In addition, out of the 9 developers who were on the Art Team that worked on Halo Infinite, one 1 is left. For context, Halo’s Chief of Staff, Melissa Boone, also departed the studio quietly a few weeks ago.

So, with major people leaving, Rebs says the studio has some serious issues, but he isn’t allowed to disclose them in detail as the sources haven’t allowed it yet. But all this doesn’t point to a promising next title, supposed to be revealed on October 24th

Ubisoft Cancelled Post–Civil War Assassin’s Creed Title Last Year for Being ‘Too Controversial’

Story Highlight
  • Reports reveal that Ubisoft canceled a new Assassin’s Creed game for being too controversial.
  • The game would’ve featured a black protagonist who was a former slave.
  • The protagonist would fight against injustice and the emergence of a white supremacist group.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has taken players across various regions and time periods, including ancient Greece, Egypt, feudal Japan, and more. However, fans believe that the Kenway saga was the best that the series had to offer, taking players across America, the Caribbean, and France.

According to a new report, we almost got a continuation of the Civil War era with a new Assassin’s Creed game set after the war’s events. However, unfortunately, the game was cancelled as company leadership deemed it ‘too controversial.’

Why it matters: Following the reception of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Ubisoft has been on thin ice due to facing controversy over misrepresentation and other factors. As such, it’d make sense for them to cancel a project that would be too controversial.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
Ubisoft And Tencent’s Subsidiary ‘Vantage Studios’ To Lead Big IPs Like Assassin’s Creed And More

According to the Game File, several sources at Ubisoft have revealed the plot behind the game. Set in the 1860s and 70s, the title would feature a black colored protagonist who was a former slave from the South, and he’d move west to start a new life.

After being recruited by the Brotherhood, he’d return to the South to fight against injustice and the Ku Klux Klan, a notable white supremacist group that emerged during the same time period.

Ubisoft
Ubisoft Won’t Showcase Any New Games Until Next Year

It’d make sense why Ubisoft would cancel this title, given this scoop already hinting at a lot of hate speech and controversy to come. Furthermore, Yasuke, the black protagonist from Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, wasn’t received well by the gaming community either.

One source summarized the entire reason behind the game’s cancellation, stating:

Too political in a country too unstable, to make it short

The project was still in its early stages of development, though. Nonetheless, there are still numerous entries to be released in the franchise soon. A new free DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage is coming soon, followed by a Black Flag Remake next year.
