Halo Campaign Evolved Footage Already Showing Dreaded Unreal Engine 5 Stutters

Story Highlight
  • Halo Campaign Evolved is already showing Unreal Engine 5 traversal stutter in its demo footage.
  • This has been a recurring problem in games running on the technology, and it appears Halo is no different.
  • Many are hopeful that the stuttering will be ironed out by the time this remake arrives next year.

Halo Campaign Evolved has been officially announced, bringing an end to the exclusivity of Xbox’s big three titles. This new remake attempts to recapture Halo’s debut in the gaming market through an all-new lens, bringing the title to a new audience.

Halo Studios has also made the jump to Unreal Engine 5 for this title, but it seems this particular transition hasn’t gone too smoothly. The initial gameplay footage of Halo Campaign Evolved shows that the title suffers from the same type of stuttering seen in other games running on the same engine.

Why it matters: Stuttering has become a major problem plaguing modern PC titles, with every other game showing hitches and stutters.

Various examples of stuttering in Halo Campaign Evolved have begun to show up on platforms like Twitter.

The game appears to suffer from big frame-time spikes in both interiors and exteriors. Moreover, players who were able to go hands-on with the remake confirm that stuttering was not uncommon during the demo.

Similar observations have been made by the audience on Reddit, and the video above shows just one instance of a prominent mid-gameplay. Ultimately, it seems Unreal Engine 5’s trademark traversal stutter has made its way to Halo.

This is also interesting since Halo Infinite, which ran on 343 Industries’ Slipspace Engine, did not suffer from the same problem. The issue appears to have come about as a direct result of Halo Studios’ jump to a different technology, but not all hope is lost.

The good news is that Halo Campaign Evolved comes out next year, so the team has time to iron out technical hitches in the game. Perhaps the final product will present a stutter-free experience.

Other developers like CDPR are also attempting to come up with a solution to Unreal Engine 5’s prominent traversal stutter, something that should benefit all teams who rely on the engine moving forward.

However, till then, fans remain concerned about Halo Studios’ approach to finding a solution to the problem.

What do you think of the initial gameplay footage? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Original Halo Dev Unhappy With Campaign Evolved, Calls Remakes Soul Destroying Cash Grabs

Story Highlight
  • Jaime Griesemer, the designer of the original title, has criticised Halo Campaign Evolved.
  • The dev called the remake soul-destroying and the entire project a cash grab.
  • He also stated that devs working on the game will get no credit and that he feels sorry for them.

Halo has started its comeback tour by announcing the remake of Combat Evolved, the first game in the series, and revealing that the franchise will be heading to PlayStation from now on for the first time.

The reception of this groundbreaking news has been mixed, and the new Halo leadership has also come under fire for using generative AI in development. And, if you asked devs of the 2001 original, this latest remake is soulless at best.

Why it matters: Remakes being hated for being uninspired by the original Halo’s designer is a terrible reflection on the IP and AAA gaming as a whole.

Halo Campaign Evolved remake
Halo: Combat Evolved’s designer is not happy with the remake.

Jaime Griesemer, a designer on Halo: Combat Evolved, posted on X to criticise the Campaign Evolved remake, saying that he feels sorry for the devs working on the project, and that it is only being done for the money.

Griesmer clarified his opinion further in the replies, stating that Halo Campaign Evolved is a soulless remake and the idea of remasters in general is “soul-destroying.” He called out the level design in the replies, saying the team had no vision, which is a major red flag.

The lead designer of Halo 2 was also critical of the mission in the gameplay showcase, explaining he put rocks in the way so the Warthog couldn’t steamroll the hunters, as he wanted players to fight them on foot, something the remake is missing.

Halo Campaign Evolved is meant to be a modern take on the original, with sprint mechanics and new additions introducing the franchise to a new era. But, there is concern among fans that the IP is losing its essence by trying to pander to a new audience.

Leadership issues are already a massive concern at Halo Studios, and with a Fortnite-style multiplayer title also rumored to be in the works, one can only wonder where the legendary FPS IP is heading.

Former Blizzard President Criticizes Xbox’s Approach to Exclusives, Tells Them to “Stop Talking”

Story Highlight
  • Former Blizzard boss criticizes Xbox for going all-in on a multiplatform strategy.
  • He called out the company for saying it doesn’t consider another console its competition.
  • He also criticized the Xbox president’s remarks that exclusives are a thing of the past.

The holy trinity of Xbox games, Halo, Forza, and Gears, has all now been announced for PlayStation. Amid all this, the company has also stated that it no longer considers another console maker its competition, which has stirred debate.

Former Blizzard president has criticized Xbox’s approach to exclusives, telling them to ‘stop talking’ after Microsoft now competes against movies and TikTok rather than PlayStation or Nintendo.

Why it matters: Microsoft has declared that exclusives are now outdated and the industry’s future is multiplatform, which, for them, is true, but Sony and Nintendo are still thriving with their exclusive releases.

Mike Ybarra took to X to call out the new Microsoft policy. He also replied to Sarah Bond’s comment on exclusive games being ‘antiquated’, saying some should tell that to Nintendo as well, which has been immensely successful at it.

However, while Xbox is heading in a completely different direction, the trajectory makes sense given its recent issues. Xbox Series sales were totally dismantled by the PS5, so coming out as a publisher made more sense.

Microsoft Xbox
Former Blizzard boss has criticized Microsoft’s approach towards multiplatform.

Xbox has had exclusives this generation, but they haven’t made the same impact because people preferred Sony’s exclusives, so they got the PS5 instead of the Xbox. Still, competing against the likes of Netflix and TikTok isn’t as simple as it sounds.

Nonetheless, the next generation is already a very intriguing topic with Xbox developing a PC-console hybrid. It is rumored to cost $1000+ and will enter the PC territory, so it would be almost double the presumed price of PS6.

Battlefield 6 Becomes One Of The Most Successful Premium Games On PC

Story Highlight
  • Battlefield 6 is one of the best-performing titles on PC in the US, as per Circana.
  • The game has become one of the most successful premium launches on the platform.
  • The console numbers are a bit below predictions, but the title is still charting in the top 10.

Battlefield 6 has taken the world by storm since its launch earlier this month, shattering sales records and peaking at 747K concurrent players on Steam. The demand for the FPS title was so high that players got stuck in queues for hours, with over 400K fans waiting to join a match.

EA’s first-person shooter has also been a viral phenomenon on PC, with new analysis showing that Battlefield 6 has set new standards for AAA titles on the platform.

Why it matters: Battlefield 6 succeeding on PC adds some necessary competition to the FPS market, which has been dominated by Call of Duty.

Battlefield 6
Battlefield 6 has taken PC by storm.

According to Circana Analyst Mat Piscatella, Battlefield 6 has become one of the most successful AAA launches on PC in history. The FPS is doing extremely well with respect to engagement, as per the report, with user numbers putting it amongst the best-performing premium titles on PC.

Piscatella also revealed that Battlefield 6 is doing good on the console side, ranking amongst the top 10 in the US alone based on player engagement. However, PC is where the EA shooter is making the real bucks and finding its core audience in the country.

The Circana analyst did not announce any sales but did state he expected a little more fuel from the FPS on consoles. However, the game’s strength on PC has more or less made up for any shortcomings on Xbox Series and PS5, as the platform is driving Battlefield 6 to new heights.

EA’s shooting title has already left its predecessors in the dust, hitting 7x the peak of Battlefield 2042 and even stealing players from Call of Duty through its beta. The game also didn’t launch on any last-gen consoles, which did help DICE better tune the game, even if it did lose some sales.

Battlefield 6 is underperforming a little on PC.

EA has lofty expectations for Battlefield 6, with some execs wanting it to hit 100 million players in its lifetime. And, if its success on PC continues, this number may become a reality.

Xbox Division Hits First Growth Target Since 2020, Driven by Publisher Strategy

Story Highlight
  • Microsoft’s gaming division, Xbox, hits the annual growth mark for the first time since 2020.
  • This results in a pay increase for Microsoft employees, including CEO Satya Nadella, who got paid nearly $100 million in a year.
  • Still, achieving these growth targets doesn’t imply that the gaming giant is profitable.

Microsoft’s struggle with its gaming division has been pretty evident since the start of the Xbox Series X|S generation. Even after multiple billion-dollar acquisitions, Xbox wasn’t able to build a brand appealing enough to draw more customers.

As such, the gaming giant has now taken a different approach by making Xbox more of an ecosystem rather than being tied to just consoles. The starting point was bringing first-party exclusives to rival platforms like PlayStation and Nintendo, thanks to which the Xbox division reports the first instance of growth since 2020.

Why it matters: Even with all these strategies and changes, if Xbox were to stagnate still, it would mean the end for the platform. Thankfully, this new publisher approach guarantees that the gaming giant is here to stay.

Everything Is An Xbox
Everything Is An Xbox Now

Published in Microsoft’s annual proxy filings, new key details were revealed for stakeholders. Xbox had a yearly growth target of 14% this year, which they managed to achieve and even exceeded by a percentage.

This is the first time Microsoft’s gaming division has reached its growth mark in the last 4 years, during which it failed to grow Game Pass users or Xbox content and services.

Thanks to this target being met, Microsoft workers’ salaries also increased. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella had a record annual payout of $96.5 million, a 22% pay raise. For non-executives, their pay rise was a much smaller bump.

Halo, Forza, And Gears on PlayStation
The Mount Rushmore Of Xbox Games Is Now On PlayStation

However, Xbox’s growth still doesn’t mean that the division is profitable or not. Earlier this year, we saw multiple layoffs at the gaming giant, resulting in the cancellation of games like Perfect Dark reboot and the closure of other studios.

Still, Microsoft has managed to find the right footing for its gaming division, which is now in the form of a third-party publisher, similar to what SEGA is right now. The only exception is that Xbox remains committed to developing new console(s), which can cost more than $1000.

Phil Spencer Teases Full PC Integration For Next Gen Xbox To Transform Console Gaming

Story Highlight
  • Phil Spencer has teased the future of Xbox consoles.
  • He states that the ROG Xbox Ally shows what the next platform will look like, likely pointing to an open ecosystem.
  • The next Xbox is expected to feature storefronts like Steam from the beginning.

Xbox has made a few interesting changes to the console gaming market recently. Following the introduction of the ROG Xbox Ally, the gaming giant has bridged the gap between Xbox and third-party storefronts like Steam, Epic Games Store, and more.

Moreover, the gaming giant has confirmed plans for a new console with the same philosophy in mind. In a recent interview, Phil Spencer also teased how this new console would push the goal of a unified platform further.

Why it matters: Xbox’s next-generation console will likely be very different than the PS6 and Nintendo Switch 2, putting the gaming giant in a unique position.

Xbox
Xbox’s Next Console Will Likely Cost At Least $1000

According to Phil Spencer, the ROG Xbox Ally isn’t necessarily considered a new Xbox console. He states that the next console is currently in development and will be released as a proper next-generation offering.

However, he went on to say that the ROG Xbox Ally still shows a glimpse of what Microsoft is doing with its future hardware. How the console connects console, PC, and cloud gaming will carry over to the upcoming hardware as part of the brand’s plans.

This product (ROG Xbox Ally) suggests how the Xbox software platform will evolve, connecting all your devices.

This is also not the first time Microsoft has teased an Xbox-PC hybrid console. It has long been suspected that the upcoming hardware will feature Steam and various other storefronts for added accessibility.

If anything, Phil Spencer’s statement suggests this will most likely be the case. Many have even predicted a potential Windows-based OS for Xbox in the coming years.

Everything Is An Xbox
Microsoft Says Everything Is An Xbox

Alongside the upcoming hardware, Xbox will continue pushing the ‘Everything is an Xbox’ tagline. Ultimately, the gaming giant is attempting to reach as wide an audience as possible.

What do you think about Xbox’s future direction? Do you find the idea of an Xbox-PC hybrid appealing? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Assassin’s Creed 3 Creator Says Desmond Died Because Fans Were Too Hard to Please

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed 3 had to kill Desmond to make the lore less complex for the audience.
  • Fans had been complaining that the story was getting too difficult to comprehend.
  • The decision saw some backlash, but Assassin’s Creed 3 still sold over 12 million units.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has had some memorable protagonists over the years. The franchise kicked off in 2007 with its first-ever main character, Desmond Miles. He was a part of the first few games, but had to be killed off for a certain reason.

Assassin’s Creed 3 director has revealed that killing Desmond off was a strategic decision because fans are hard to please, and the series had to survive in the mainstream. The lore was getting complex, so the decision had to be made.

Why it matters: Till the third game, fans had been actively complaining that the series had become bloated, and a lot was going on that they couldn’t understand; therefore, developers made the decision.

Desmond Miles AC
Desmond was killed to make more sense of the complex lore

In a podcast with FRVR, creative director Alex Hutchinson explained why they had to kill Desmond in Assassin’s Creed 3. He explained how everything had become so complex that fans had started complaining about it.

We didn’t want that to happen with AC (Game Death), where they are sort of lore, you know, Nazis policing everything and saying, ‘Oh, but in this game at this point 17 years ago, this happened

– Alex Hutchinson

Following the success of Assassin’s Creed 2, Ubisoft released a couple of additional games, Brotherhood and Revelations, to capitalize on its momentum. So, while Desmond’s story was a trilogy, it evolved into something entirely different.

Assassins Creed 3
Assassin’s Creed 3 marked the death of the original protagonist, Desmond Miles

Instead, later on, Ezio got the trilogy, which was much better received. So, to please fans and make sure that the lore was correctly explained, Desmond had to be sacrificed. If it hadn’t happened, the game would’ve lost the mainstream audience.

There was a huge backlash when he was killed off, but the game went on to sell over 12 million copies. However, Ubisoft did redeem itself with Edward Kenway, who became popular, and along with Ezio is amongst the series’ most popular protagonists.

Xbox Says It Now Competes With Everything, Including TikTok And Movies

Story Highlight
  • Xbox has recently confirmed that it no longer competes with PlayStation exclusively.
  • The gaming giant sees the likes of TikTok and movies as valid competition.
  • This shift is part of the ‘Everything is an Xbox’ push from Microsoft, with the company attempting to branch out to all of entertainment.

Xbox’s current position in the gaming market is quite interesting. The brand has positioned itself as an all-in-one gaming platform following the ‘Everything is an Xbox‘ push.

This strategy has been pushed further through Microsoft’s third-party approach, with the likes of Halo, Forza, and Gears now on PS5. Explaning this strategy further, Matt Booty says that Xbox no longer sees PlayStation as its sole competitor.

Why it matters: Gaming is still a relatively small part of the larger entertainment industry, so Xbox expanding out and competing with other giants so abruptly might be a risky move.

PlayStation Xbox $70 Games
The Rivalry With PlayStation Is No Longer As Important To Microsoft

According to Matt Botty, the President of Xbox Game Studios, the platform is currently attempting to meet players wherever they may be.

From cloud gaming on smart TVs to handhelds, the gaming giant has expanded its portfolio to practically every device. This is why the company no longer attempts to compete with PlayStation.

Instead, Matt Booty says that Xbox is now competing with all of entertainment on a broader scale. This shift entails the brand competing with the likes of TikTok, movies, and more.

Our biggest competition isn’t another console. We are competing more and more with everything from TikTok to movies.

The obvious implications of Microsoft’s future as a home console-maker aside, this statement is so interesting because it puts Xbox at an inherent disadvantage. Movies and TikTok have a much lower cost of entry than most games, so Xbox competing with them might prove to be more challenging than initially anticipated.

Also, since PlayStation still considered Xbox its primary competitor until recently, it will be interesting to see how Sony’s gaming division evolves without this competition.

Halo, Forza, And Gears on PlayStation
The Biggest Xbox Exclusives Are All on PlayStation Now

Nonetheless, this statement cements yet again that the company is committed to its ‘Everything is an Xbox’ motto. Even with a new home console being worked on, Xbox appears to be more interested in the broader entertainment audience.

What do you think about Matt Booty’s statement? Do you think this is a wise decision from Xbox? Share your opinions down below and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Halo Series Will Stay On PlayStation Moving Forward, Says Dev

Story Highlight
  • Halo Studios has confirmed that the series will be on PlayStation moving forward.
  • The team is excited to see new players joining the franchise, describing the transition as a long time coming.
  • A new Halo live-service title is said to be coming next after this remake.

Halo has always been popular among die-hard first-person shooter fans. In particular, the IP has represented a big part of the Xbox brand.

However, with the latest announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved, Master Chief is finally set to make his debut on PlayStation after two decades. Making things even more interesting, Halo Studios has confirmed that the series is here to stay on PlayStation.

Why it matters: Xbox still plans to make a premium home console for the next generation, but the platform will be devoid of any exclusives.

Halo Campaign Evolved
Halo: Campaign Evolved Brings The First Entry To Life With Revamped Visuals

Although there was little doubt about future entries possibly skipping PlayStation hardware, the team behind the Combat Evolved remake has confirmed that Halo has gone third-party permanently.

Moving forward, fans should expect to see the IP’s biggest games launching simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. Moreover, support for third-party handhelds like the Steam Deck and Rog Ally is also expected.

In the past, Halo was limited to just PC and Xbox hardware, with future entries eventually dropping the former platform during the Xbox 360 era. Following the release of Halo Infinite and The Master Chief Collection, the series returned to PC, and only a few years later has now appeared on PS5.

According to Community Manager Biran Jarrad, this transition has been a long time coming, and everyone on the team is excited to welcome new players to the series. Moreover, this shift marks a completely new era for Halo.

Halo is on PlayStation going forward. It’s really a new era.

Xbox Seems To Have Given All Its Biggest Games To PlayStation

As for the future, Halo Studios is said to be working on a live-service title for the IP. More details regarding this title are not currently available, but the team should have more information to share next year.

Xbox’s Halo, Forza, Gears Trinity Has Officially Made Its Way To PS5

Story Highlight
  • Halo: Campaign Evolved has been announced for PS5 and already has a store page on the platform.
  • With Gears and Forza also on the platform, Xbox’s three biggest IPs are now all on Sony’s platform.
  • This move comes following Xbox president Sarah Bond declaring exclusives to be antiquated.

Xbox’s third-party strategy has evolved rapidly since its initial announcement over a year ago. Not only have recent titles like Hi-Fi Rush and Indiana Jones been released on rival platforms, but iconic IPs have also made the shift.

Among the first-party titles, Xbox’s trio of Halo, Forza, and Gears has always been the gaming giant’s strongest suit. However, following today’s announcement, all three games have made the jump to PS5 as well.

Why it matters: This scenario would have been unimaginable a few years ago, but Xbox’s current position has completely strayed away from its past ideologies.

Following the Halo World Championship 2025, the Halo remake is officially available to wishlist on PS5 ahead of its 2026 release. This marks the first time this series has been on the platform in over 24 years.

A few months ago, Xbox also released Gears of War: Reloaded on PS5, bringing the very first title to the platform with revamped visuals and gameplay. Going even further back in time, Forza Horizon 5 made its official debut on the platform earlier this year.

Since Xbox’s Halo, Forza, and Gears trinity is a core part of the brand’s identity, all three games making their way to the PlayStation ecosystem comes as quite a shock. Moreover, this practically confirms that future entries in these IPs will be available on PS5.

Earlier this week, Xbox president Sarah Bond declared exclusives to be an antiquated concept. Halo, Forza, and Gears being available on PlayStation cements this core philosophy as a pillar of Microsoft’s gaming brand moving forward.

forza horizon ps5

On the other hand, both Nintendo and PlayStation are moving forward with various exclusive titles. The former is still staying true to its traditional approach, while the latter has yet to port specific titles like Demon’s Souls and Gran Turismo 7 to PC.

What do you think about Xbox porting its biggest franchises to PlayStation? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Halo Campaign Evolved Remake Officially Announced For Xbox, PS5, And PC; Coming 2026

Story Highlight
  • Halo: Campaign Evolved is an Unreal Engine 5-based remake of the original Halo title.
  • The game is headed to Xbox Series S|X, PC, and PS5 next year.
  • It also includes extra prequel missions, but the multiplayer has been dropped.

Following Xbox’s recent shift, most of its hallmark titles have moved to the PS5. Recent reports also pointed to an impending shift for Halo, with Microsoft preparing a third-party remake of the very first title in the series.

These rumors were followed by teasers of an announcement at the Halo World Championship, and sure enough, Halo Combat Evolved has now been officially revealed at the event.

Why it matters: The first Halo title became legendary for revolutionizing first-person shooters on consoles. This experience is set to receive a makeover with the remake.

Dubbed Halo: Campaign Evolved, the remake completely revamps the original Halo’s single-player experience with Unreal Engine 5.

According to the developers, the game is set to launch next year across all platforms, including Xbox Series S|X, PC, and PS5. The game will also include four-player online co-op, expanding on the original’s two-player split-screen co-op.

As the name suggests, Halo: Campaign Evolved skips the multiplayer component in favor of the campaign. However, the game is set to ship with three new prequel missions to expand on the narrative of Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson.

Elsewhere, Xbox has shared various screenshots of the title and a full 13-minute gameplay segment. The gaming giant also notes that the game is still a work-in-progress.

Nonetheless, Halo is now set to arrive on PlayStation for the first time in over two decades. This is a monumental moment for both the series and console gaming since Master Chief has always been Xbox’s mascot.

What do you think of the remake so far? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Intel Returns to Profit: $13.7B Revenue and 124% Surge After Internal Crisis

Story Highlight
  • Intel’s Q3 2025 financial report showed an unexpected recovery, with revenue rising 3% year over year to $13.7 billion.
  • The company achieved a $4.1 billion net profit, reversing a $16.6 billion loss from the same quarter last year.
  • Intel expects to earn $12.8 to $13.8 billion in revenue in Q4 2025.

Intel began in the 1970s as the company that first launched commercial computer processors, a groundbreaking move that established its position as a major player. But then AMD came in and become an strong competitor. Since then, Intel has been rapidly losing market share, resulting in reduced sales and higher losses. Following a string of poor years, Intel’s newest Q3 2025 financial reports are startling, with revenues increasing for the first time.

When AMD introduced its Ryzen, Ryzen Threadripper, and EPYC processors, Intel had to improve after watching its opponent catch up. After being limited to four cores for so long, Intel CPUs eventually began adding more cores.

They also increased frequencies to levels suitable for overclocking, but only under stock settings, which undoubtedly had an impact on the Core 13 and Core 14. It also began creating Xeon processors with significantly more cores and performance.

Intel Reports

Everything Intel achieved in the processor market was insufficient, as AMD was in charge of outperforming it in both desktop PC processors like the Ryzen, workstation processors like the Ryzen Threadripper, and server and data centre CPUs like the EPYC.

In gaming PCs, the Ryzen X3D outperforms all Intel processors, the Threadripper outperforms most Xeons, and the EPYC has more cores and power. If we combine the losses in IFS and the graphics card market, we get numbers similar to Q2 2025, with massive profit declines.

Now in Q3 2025, revenues reached $13.7 billion, surpassing analysts’ projections of $13.14 billion and representing a 3% increase from $13.3 billion in Q3 2024. The gross profit margin increased by 23.2 points from 15% in Q3 2024 to 38%.

Intel report Q3 2025

Intel reported a net profit of $4.1 billion, down from a $16.6 billion loss in the same time last year, marking a 124% increase. The operating margin is up 5% from the 68.2% loss in Q3 2024, representing a 73.2-point gain. The tax rate is up 6.6%, compared to an 87% decline last year, reflecting a 93.6-point increase.

We have diluted earnings of $0.90 per share attributable to Intel, compared to a loss of $3.88 per share a year earlier, representing a 123% year-over-year gain. If we now move on to revenue segmentation, we begin with Intel products, which earned $12.7 billion in total sales, divided into $8.5 billion for CCG (Client Computing Group) and $4.1 billion for DCAI (Data Centres and AI), a 3% increase over Q3 2024.

Intel’s foundry (IFS) has dropped 2%, while the company’s other products have earned $1 billion, a 3% increase. Now that we have the Q3 2025 numbers, Intel is expected to make $12.8 to $13.8 billion in sales and $0.14 per share in Q4 2025.
