All of Xbox's Top 3 Franchises Are Now on PlayStation!

Story Highlight
  • Former Blizzard boss criticizes Xbox for going all-in on a multiplatform strategy.
  • He called out the company for saying it doesn’t consider another console its competition.
  • He also criticized the Xbox president’s remarks that exclusives are a thing of the past.

The holy trinity of Xbox games, Halo, Forza, and Gears, has all now been announced for PlayStation. Amid all this, the company has also stated that it no longer considers another console maker its competition, which has stirred debate.

Former Blizzard president has criticized Xbox’s approach to exclusives, telling them to ‘stop talking’ after Microsoft now competes against movies and TikTok rather than PlayStation or Nintendo.

Why it matters: Microsoft has declared that exclusives are now outdated and the industry’s future is multiplatform, which, for them, is true, but Sony and Nintendo are still thriving with their exclusive releases.

Mike Ybarra took to X to call out the new Microsoft policy. He also replied to Sarah Bond’s comment on exclusive games being ‘antiquated’, saying some should tell that to Nintendo as well, which has been immensely successful at it.

However, while Xbox is heading in a completely different direction, the trajectory makes sense given its recent issues. Xbox Series sales were totally dismantled by the PS5, so coming out as a publisher made more sense.

Xbox has had exclusives this generation, but they haven’t made the same impact because people preferred Sony’s exclusives, so they got the PS5 instead of the Xbox. Still, competing against the likes of Netflix and TikTok isn’t as simple as it sounds.

Nonetheless, the next generation is already a very intriguing topic with Xbox developing a PC-console hybrid. It is rumored to cost $1000+ and will enter the PC territory, so it would be almost double the presumed price of PS6.
