Fort Solis Fails To Maintain 60FPS At Native 1440p With RTX 4090

Also Averages 40FPS At Native 4K!

Fort Solis is yet another addition to the gaming industry that uses Unreal Engine 5 to bring its world to life. However, the engine has proven to be extremely demanding in the past, and Fort Solis proves to be challenging even for the mighty GeForce RTX 4090.

Fort Solis is currently available for PS5 and PC. The game has also been tested on modern PC hardware before release, and the results are concerning for even the best consumer graphics card.

According to a report, Fort Solis can often drop below 60FPS at 1440p when running on a GeForce RTX 4090.

Why it matters: This has poor implications for most PC gamers since the GeForce RTX 4090 is leagues ahead of most graphics cards on the market.

In addition to Nvidia’s best gaming graphics card, Fort Solis was tested with components like an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 32GB of memory, ensuring that bottlenecks were kept at a minimum and the graphics card performed at its best.

While the GeForce RTX 4090 was created and advertised as a 4K gaming graphics card, Fort Solis brings it to its knees at the native resolution. With an average of 40FPS, the $1600 graphics card disappoints at this resolution.

Going down to 1440p helps, but as mentioned earlier, this resolution is still not enough to sustain a consistent 60FPS at all times. It should be noted that these tests were conducted at the high settings for these resolutions.

Since the performance is far from stellar, users can count on DLSS to save the day yet again. Fort Solis supports DLSS 3, which can help the mighty graphics card push up to 100FPS at 4K resolution.

Unsurprisingly, the stuttering issues that have plagued various Unreal Engine games are also present in Fort Solis. The report also notes that the game displays a few lighting artifacts.

Fort Solis is among the newest games utilizing Unreal Engine 5 technologies like Lumen and Nanite. The poor performance may be attributed to the demanding nature of Lumen and Nanite, but these results will be disappointing for users with a GeForce RTX 4090.

Not too long ago, games like Remnant 2 and Lord of the Rings: Gollum failed to achieve 60FPS at 4K on a GeForce RTX 4090.

This trend may have come about due to the reliance on upscaling technologies like DLSS. Recently, Gunfire Games confirmed that Remnant 2 was designed with upscaling in mind, and this may continue to be the case for many games coming out in the future.
