Valve's Answer To Overwatch?

Story Highlight
  • Valve, the team behind Counter-Strike and Steam, appears to be working on a hero shooter game.
  • The game is said to be similar to Overwatch, Valorant, Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, and others.
  • It will likely come with fast-paced gameplay that incorporates traversal elements for an exciting gameplay loop.

Counter-Strike is Valve’s biggest IP, but it underwent some brutal changes in 2023, which impacted the player base.

Despite those changes, the game still has many concurrent players, but Valve is also working on a brand-new project to expand its reach in the industry further. According to new reports, it seems like Valve is working on a competitive hero shooter.

Why it matters: Valve has never made a hero shooter, so it will be interesting to see how this turns out.

The Upcoming Game From Valve Sounds Similar To Team Fortress 2

This report comes from Gabe Follower, who has proven to be a reliable leaker. He states that this is the same project previously known as Neon Prime, though information on the game remains slim at best for now.

According to the leaker, the game is called Deadlock, and it will focus on 6 vs 6 competitive hero shooter battles. He states that abilities and items will play a major role in the gameplay, with Valve aiming for a Steampunk setting.

The heroes reportedly range from magicians to robots, creating a vibe similar to that of Bioshock. Adding further to these similarities, Gabe Follower states that floating rails might be used for traversal, similar to Bioshock Infinite’s implementation.

Overwatch 2
Overwatch 2 Is One of the Most Famous Hero Shooters In The Market

Overall, the title sounds a lot like Valve’s answer to Overwatch. The gaming giant has not released any major titles in a while, so Deadlock could be an exciting launch for the whole PC gaming industry.

This studio has previously released genre-defining titles like Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, and more. Needless to say, Valve rarely disappoints.

The leaker has compared Deadlock with games like Team Fortress 2, Dota 2, Valorant, Smite, and Orcs Must Die. Therefore, it seems Valve is working on a combination of all these releases, borrowing their best elements for one major game.
