MSI Brings EOTF Boost to QD-OLED Series: Improving Brightness Up To 1,000-Nits

Brighter HDR for MSI Monitors.

Story Highlight
  • MSI is introducing a new feature called EOTF Boost to address dimming issues in their QD-OLED monitors.
  • This technology aims to maintain high brightness levels in dark scenes and adjust them correctly in bright scenes.
  • EOTF Boost has shown to be effective at increasing brightness, reaching up to 1,000 nits, and improving clarity.

MSI will release its EOTF Boost technology this month. This feature improves the brightness of the OLED series lineup. MSI has now announced that it will bring this feature to all the Standard QD-LED series monitors. Those monitors that are already on the market will be provided with a firmware update to activate this feature.

According to MSI, EOTF boost gives much higher brightness levels (up to 1000 nits) than regular HDR 1000 modes. This is accomplished within the same APL (Average Picture Level) circumstances and is ideal for users seeking higher levels of brightness. Monitor’s Unboxed, a sister channel of Hardware Unboxed, discovered that EOTF Boost improved not only the brightness levels of QD-OLEDs, but also the clarity while gaming or in standard use.

MSI EOTF Boost configuration

Although there is no specific date, the update will arrive this month and will be available for the four models named below:

  • MAG 322UP QD-OLED E16
  • MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50
  • MAG 271QP QD-OLED X28
  • MAG 272QPW QD-OLED X28

The remaining monitors in the QD-OLED series, which have yet to arrive, will include it as standard, as will units built from now on of the four mentioned types. MSI EOTF Boost will be accessible through the monitor’s menu. Selecting DisplayHDR in the OSD will open a menu containing True Black 400 and HDR1000.
