Much interesting news regarding Sony and Microsoft came out during the recent case between Microsoft and the FTC. This included information like Jim Ryan’s views on Starfield. Another document appears to hint at a new PS5 Slim console.
According to the document, Microsoft believes PS5 Slim will be released this year.
Why it Matters: Recent reports from a reliable source have already hinted at a new PS5 model coming in 2023. Following these reports, Microsoft suggests Sony is gearing up to release PS5 Slim.
On page 48, Microsoft mentions the console and its potential release date. The document states:
“PlayStation likewise sells a less expensive Digital Edition for $399.99, and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year.”
According to documents, the PS5 Slim will launch at the same price as the digital edition of the PlayStation, which is $399.99.
However, this could also mean it is the same model Tom Henderson has been reporting on. The leaker claims PlayStation is working on a model with a detachable disc drive that users can buy as an add-on.
This would allow Sony to sell one PS5 model for $399.99, allowing users to upgrade to the disc drive at any point after the purchase. No other hardware changes are expected, but the model will likely be more efficient, similar to previous slim PlayStations from Sony.
Since July is already here, not much of 2023 is left. Therefore, an official announcement will likely be made soon if PlayStation intends to release a brand new model on the market in the coming months.
In addition to the Slim console, reports have also mentioned a PS5 Pro. This console is expected to offer superior hardware than the original console and should be released sometime in 2024.
