The Castlevania franchise has not received a new entry in many years. With recent crossovers like Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, fans have wondered if Konami will finally get to work on a new title set in the universe.
While nothing has been announced, Konami’s latest trademark might be a small hint toward the beloved series. The publisher has filed a trademark with the name ‘Project Zircon’.
Gematsu reports that Zircon is a jewel featured in Castlevania, leading to some hope for a new game.
However, Konami has filed a trademark covering various areas such as arcade machines and ‘prize-winning game machines.” This means that the trademark may not necessarily be related to a future game, but Konami has acknowledged the ‘excitement surrounding the franchise.’
The recent reception, combined with Konami’s intentions to revisit classic franchises like Silent Hill may be enough for some fans to get their hopes up. Rumors also claim that Konami is gearing up to revive the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
As such, Castlevania seems like the obvious next choice in Konami’s vast gaming catalog.
Previously, God of War Ragnarok Director Eric Williams also expressed interest in working on the Castlevania franchise. Therefore, it is clear that there is no shortage of developers and talent looking to revive the series.
The last Castlevania game was released nearly a decade ago, in 2014. Since then, fans have been patiently waiting for its return, but it remains to be seen if Konami will fulfill these demands with a new title.
