NetherRealm is famous for its critically-acclaimed fighting game releases. Following Mortal Kombat 1’s launch, however, the team has remained silent on its next project. Out of the blue, Ed Boon has now shared a small update on the Injustice IP of all games. He says that Injustice 2 has sold close to 10 million copies.
Why it matters: Ed Boon has wanted to return to this series for a while, so the fact that the second game did so well should help make the case for a third entry.

Ed Boon’s update comes from Bluesky, where he stated that Injustice 2 has sold over 9 million copies worldwide.
Interestingly enough, this comment was seemingly made as a direct response to a user’s comment which asked for clarification on the second Injustice title’s lifetime sales figures.
For comparison, this figure puts Injustice 2 up there as one of NetherRealm’s best-selling titles. Although a release like Mortal Kombat 11 has sold substantially more at 15 million units, the DC crossover fighting IP has done quite well for itself.
At present, there has been no shortage of discussions around a potential third Injustice entry. Rumors suggest Injustice 3 is indeed the studio’s next game, and if the team’s history is anything to go by, an official announcement could be very close.
This game, alongside the recently-confirmed Hogwarts Legacy sequel, could do wonders for the currently struggling Warner Bros. gaming division.
