Horizon Zero Dawn Is PlayStation’s Best-Selling PC Port; 3.3 Million Sold

God of War In Second Place!

Story Highlights
  • A ransomware group has leaked a large amount of data from Sony.
  • The sales of PlayStation PC ports have also been leaked, with Horizon Zero Dawn selling the most copies.
  • God of War takes the second spot on the best-selling PC port.

Last week, ransomware group Rhysida confirmed that they had hacked Insomniac Games and shared some screenshots from Marvel’s Wolverine.

Following the initial leak, the group has published 1.3 million files, including the personal data of employees and the target release dates of many Insomniac Games titles. Sales data regarding PlayStation PC ports has also shown up.

Among the ports, Horizon Zero Dawn leads the charts with 3.3 million units sold.

Why it matters: The leak shows that PlayStation’s performance on the platform is on a downward trend, which may encourage the studio to bring a massive release as a countermeasure.

The leak confirms God of War is not the best-selling PlayStation game on Steam as many had expected.

However, it takes the second spot, falling behind Horizon Zero Dawn. With over 2.5 million units sold, Kratos’ first outing on the platform has been an undeniable success, but the same cannot be said for most of the other ports.

Days Gone and Spider-Man are also successful, selling 1.7 million and 1.3 million units, respectively. The rest are disappointing, however, with Spider-Man: Miles Morales failing to reach a million sales.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection sold just under 500K copies, while Sackboy: A Big Adventure failed to break into the 100K range. This means PlayStation has seen mixed results on the PC platform so far.

Recent PC games like The Last of Us Part 1 have not been well received either. This was mainly due to a flawed launch, and we hope this port inspires Sony to put out better PC games in the future.

It is important to note that this data covers sales from Steam. PlayStation also sells games on the Epic Games Store, but we doubt this platform made a massive impact on the overall figures.

Sony Needs Days Gone

While PlayStation may be slowing down, it intends to continue releasing more PC ports, though fans should not expect day-one games alongside console releases.

Horizon Forbidden West is arriving on PC in 2024. As the sequel to the best-selling Sony game on the platform, the title has a lot to live up to, and we hope it breaks the chain of Sony’s disappointing reception on the platform.
