Like every year, Google has released its Google Trends charts, which show the most searched keywords throughout the year, including the most searched game of the year.
While one would imagine the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3, Starfield, and others to show up at the top, Hogwarts Legacy is the most searched game of 2023.
Why it matters: Hogwarts Legacy had many controversies due to its author and her opinions, possibly being the main reason for its current position at the top of Google’s search charts.
This latest data shows that gamers had access to a lot of variety this year and searched for distinctive experiences on the most popular engine today.
The list is led by Hogwarts Legacy, which has also been the best-selling new IP and has seen the biggest launch on Steam in 2023. Therefore, it is no surprise that the release is the most searched on Google.
The Last of Us was the second most searched game of the year, likely due to the recent remaster and the TV show, with the latter being one of the biggest hits of the year.
While fans had expected to see titles like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Resident Evil 4 Remake on the list, neither made it to the top 10. Both were nominated for Game of the Year, being among the biggest releases of 2023.
Still, Starfield was the fifth most searched game on Google. The Game of the Year, Baldur’s Gate 3, was also ranked at the sixth spot.
A few surprising games like Atomic Hearts and Sons of The Forest were also among the top 10 most searched titles this year. We believe this is a very diverse list and further proves how 2023 has been one of the greatest years for gaming.
This list reiterates Hogwarts Legacy’s status as one of the biggest games of 2023. While it may not have been nominated at The Game Awards, the game smashed numerous records for Warner Bros and Avalanche Software.
