GTA 6 is initially launching on the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X, and the game is expected to arrive on PC at some point in 2027. However, rumors have also discussed the possibility of a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game. One former Rockstar Games developer has chimed in on the discussion, stating that such a port would not make much sense. Why it matters: GTA 6 will be the industry’s biggest release, and it will also compete with Nintendo’s Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake later this year. Former Rockstar Games developer Jeremy Hartwick says that a GTA 6 port for Nintendo Switch 2 would not make much sense. The former Rockstar developer argued that the game is a much better match for PS5 hardware than Nintendo’s hybrid console. Speaking to Kiwi Talkz, Hartwick also highlighted that the Nintendo Switch 2 audience isn’t necessarily one that would be too interested in a Grand Theft Auto title to begin with. Therefore, he thinks it would not be worth the effort for the team to release a mediocre version of the game for Nintendo’s latest hardware. I’m not sure the GTA 6 and the Switch audience are the same. The former Rockstar Games developer, who also worked on GTA 6 for a few years, believes that most Grand Theft Auto fans are ultimately likely to buy the game on its target platforms anyways. Because GTA 6 is going to be so ambitious of a title, it may make more sense for Rockstar Games to port GTA 5 to Nintendo hardware instead. What do you think of the developer’s opinion on the matter?
