GTA 6, arguably the most anticipated title in modern gaming, is still breaking records after the game’s announcement became the fastest gaming tweet to reach 1 million likes on Twitter.
This was followed by a record-breaking trailer from Rockstar Games. The trailer easily broke over 100 million views in 24 hours. Over a month later, GTA 6 has taken the spot as gaming’s second most-watched trailer to date.
Why it matters: Rockstar Games’ ability to innovate and keep things fresh has led to a massive fanbase for its biggest franchises. This fanbase makes Grand Theft Auto one of the biggest entertainment IPs in the world.
Currently, Subway Surfers is still sitting on the throne with over 361 million views. This is a massive gap, so GTA 6 is unlikely to become the most-watched gaming trailer anytime soon.
Until recently, Minecraft occupied the second position, with 167 million views for its trailer. However, the excitement of GTA 6 knows no bounds, breaking through this milestone in less than two months.
Still, the top spot will not be easy to reach. Subway Surfers, being a mobile game, is much more accessible by nature, leading to a bigger audience for its trailer. The video has also accumulated views for over ten years.
The GTA 6 trailer is still fairly new, but we expect it to reach the top spot eventually.
As the game’s 2025 launch draws closer, the trailer will likely go through a surge in viewers. This could be when it finally reaches over 360 million views, possibly beating Subway Surfers.
Additional GTA 6 trailers are also expected to arrive this year, so there is no telling what may happen in the future.
GTA 6 will offer 35-40 hours of open-world chaos at release. It will also mark the first current-generation release from Rockstar Games, offering visuals and mechanics that immerse players in the Bonnie and Clyde-inspired narrative of this Grand Theft Auto entry.
All of this and more has players excited to finally dive into this universe, with millions rushing toward the YouTube trailer as they wait for the eventual release.
