Another 5 Million In The Last Three Months!

Story Highlights
  • GTA 5 is still selling well despite being a decade old.
  • It has sold over 5 million units in the last three months, reaching a total of 190 million sales.
  • The franchise has reached a total of 410 million units in sales.

Though GTA 5 recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, the game is still very appealing to gaming audiences. Grand Theft Auto has always been popular, but this entry remains unmatched among Rockstar’s titles.

In August, Take-Two Interactive confirmed that the game had sold over 185 million copies. GTA 5 has crossed another milestone three months later, selling over 190 million copies since its release.

Why it matters: GTA 5 has had an incredible impact on the industry. It has practically transformed Rockstar as a studio, establishing the team as one of the pioneers of the modern live service model.

This information comes from Take-Two Interactive’s earnings report. According to the date, the latest Grand Theft Auto release has sold over 5 million units since the last report.

Take-Two Interactive has also shared the number of copies sold for the franchise altogether. Adding iconic titles like GTA San Andreas, GTA Vice City, and more, the series has sold over 410 million copies to date across multiple generations of consoles.

GTA Online can be given credit for this success. While the single-player offering of GTA 5 is great in many ways, the online component has kept millions of players coming back, leading to massive bonuses for Take-Two executives after impressive microtransaction sales.

Grand Theft Auto GTA 5

Today, Rockstar also announced GTA 6. However, the first trailer will be shown during the first week of December to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the studio.

While this has already been a delightful day for GTA fans, the new sales milestone for GTA 5 will likely be well-received among enthusiasts of the franchise.

Since no new entry in the franchise is expected before 2024, GTA 5 is likely to continue its run for a few more months. However, its successor will likely prove to be an even bigger success, given the excitement for this title.
