Santa Monica Studios has announced a massive batch of God of War news today. Their upcoming title, God of War Laufey, now has a release date of February 17th, 2027.
Why it matters: It’s surprising to see Sony release a first-party game in less than a year after its announcement, let alone a God of War game.
At the San Diego Comic-Con event, Cory Barlog talked in a bit of detail about what’s next for the God of War series. God of War Laufey, which will center on Kratos’ wife Faye, is releasing on February 16, 2027.
Talking more about the game, Cory called God of War Laufey an “expansion” title, which is meant to connect the story to the next God of War game that is releasing after Laufey and will feature Kratos as the lead.
For a little about God of War Laufey, it will feature Faye after her death as she battles through various gods from different mythologies in the Everywhen realm to protect the plans she laid out to protect Kratos and Atreus.
Not much is known about the plot, but most speculate that God of War Laufey simultaneously takes place as the Norse God of War games.
Many plot points will finally become clear with God of War Laufey, and it’s Faye’s story is something that Santa Monica Studios had in mind from the first time they were making God of War (2018).
The future of the franchise seems bright, and considering how future God of War games tie in, this storytelling has been long in the works, and it’ll be exciting to see what stories Santa Monica Studios has to tell.
