A few years ago, Cody Barlog, the Director of God of War, teased a new IP. He tweeted a hint in morse code and used the Voyager 1 space satellite as his profile picture.
This led to speculation about the developer potentially working on a sci-fi IP for PlayStation. Santa Monica Studio writer Alanah Pearce has led to even more speculation, with the writer possibly hinting at a sci-fi game from Santa Monica Studios.
Why it matters: Santa Monica Studio is arguably PlayStation’s best first-party developer, and fans are always eager to learn about the developer’s future projects.
During the latest Play, Watch, Listen podcast, Mike Bithell stated:
“while I’m writing… unspecified sci-fi franchise that I’m currently writing.”
Alanah replied:
“same.”
Since Alanah’s reply follows after Mike mentioned an unspecified sci-fi IP, it appears she has spilled the beans about a new sci-fi franchise from Santa Monica Studio.
The studio has been limited to God of War titles over the past decade, but last year, Cory Barlog revealed that Santa Monica Studio is working on several projects. He also mentioned a new project that had been in the works for several years.
Combining the previous teaser from Cory Barlog and the latest podcast from Alanah Pearce, a sci-fi IP from Santa Monica Studio may be a safe bet. There has been a lot of speculation about the developer’s future projects, but not much has been officially confirmed.
It is also worth noting that Santa Monica Studio was recently hiring for the next God of War title. Therefore, the developer will continue to expand on Kratos’ journey alongside Cory Barlog’s future project.
