Forza Horizon 6 has been in the news for the last few days for all the wrong reasons. Following reports of various leaks, bans, and more, the game has finally begun to see positivity ahead of its release.
In addition to earning unanimously positive reviews from the critics, the arcade racer currently stands firm as 2026’s best-rated game on Metacritic.
Why it matters: Titles like Saros and Resident Evil Requiem have already earned a lot of praise in 2026, so this is a major accomplishment for Xbox and its first-party studio.
Currently, Forza Horizon 6 stands head and shoulders above every other title on Metacritic. Thanks to its Metascore of 92/100, up from the initial 91/100, the game has even beaten the likes of Resident Evil Requiem, Saros, and Pokémon Pokopia.
Metacritic has awarded the arcade racer its prestigious “Must-Play” tag to signify Playground Games’ achievement. This also means that Forza Horizon 6 will likely be nominated for the Game of the Year award at TGA 2026.
Perhaps the most impressive part about this Metascore is the fact that Forza Horizon 5 boasts a similar rating on the platform. Moreover, Forza Horizon 4 also landed on a 92/100 average score when it launched in 2018.
As such, Playground Games continues to produce back-to-back hits with its arcade racing franchise.
Whether Forza Horizon 6 will eventually be dethroned by upcoming titles like GTA 6 remains to be seen, but Playground Games will likely be glad with the praise the game has received so far.
The team is also gearing up to launch Fable this year, and if this RPG reboot performs anywhere near as well, Playground Games will have two potential GOTY contenders on its hands.
