Fable Remake was officially announced 6 years ago at this point. Since then, there have been multiple game cancellations, layoffs, and more, but it has managed to make it out. Xbox has finally revealed that the wait for the game isn’t too long now.
At today’s Developer Direct, it was announced that Fable will be released in Autumn 2026. There were speculations that it might slip to 2027, but it’s still locked in for this year, and more importantly, it releases day 1 on PS5.
Why it matters: The original Fable was a critically acclaimed title, so fans are stoked for the new remake. It was voted as one of the most exciting Xbox titles; however, the studio didn’t show much confidence.
Xbox Developer Direct went in-depth on the new Fable’s gameplay. The visuals look stunning with great attention to detail in most locations. This is the first game in the franchise that is truly open-world.
So, exploration is a huge focus, and you can visit multiple forests, villages, and more areas throughout Albion. It even has a morality system, so all actions have consequences, and that will reflect on the story.
Apart from that, it features all the things that made Fable a fan favorite, including its British humor and player choices, but it adds that with additional features. The foundation looks solid, but we’ll have to see if it delivers.
However, from the initial impressions, the optimization doesn’t look too good. There were visible frame drops and stutters, but that can be fixed with the final release. Anyhow, Fable joins an already stacked 2026.
