Xbox Fan Despite FF7 Rebirth Being PS5 Exclusive!

Story Highlight

  • He also owns an Xbox console himself.
  • The director hopes to see his game on the platform eventually.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been one of the biggest games of 2024. Following incredible critical reception, the game finished the first half of 2024 as Metacritic’s best-rated title. It was also nominated for Game of the Year, alongside titles like Black Myth: Wukong and Shadow of the Erdtree.

The JRPG is currently exclusive to the PS5 but should make its way to PC next year. An Xbox release is not off the cards either, with Square Enix shifting to a third-party approach. On the subject of Xbox, the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director has also praised the platform recently.

Why it matters: Xbox, more often than not, gets overshadowed by PlayStation. As such, it is interesting to see such a major developer praising the platform.

Speaking on Square Enix’s recent decision to pursue multiplatform releases, director Naoki Hamaguchi commented that this is a natural shift because of the industry’s current focus.

He remarked that nothing is set in stone for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth yet, but the team hopes to see it on Xbox eventually. Naoki Hamaguchi also confirmed that he owns an Xbox himself after claiming to be a fan of the platform.

I’ve got an Xbox myself. I think it’s a great hardware platform.

What makes this statement all the more impressive is the fact that Xbox does not have as major a presence in Japan. Compared to the US, Xbox sales in Japan are much lower, even though Microsoft has made strides to improve its standing in the region this generation.

Anyhow, this statement underscores Xbox’s current position in the industry. For all their flaws, the Xbox Series S|X consoles are great pieces of hardware for those simply looking to enjoy great games from the modern era.

Perhaps Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will also be one of those games someday. What are your thoughts on Naoki Hamaguchi’s statement? Let us know in the comments, and join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
