Fans Working on Bully Remake In Unreal Engine 5, As Rockstar Continues to Ignore the IP

The Project Already Shows A Lot Of Promise!

Story Highlight
  • A dedicated fan is remaking Bully in Unreal Engine 5 with AI assistance.
  • The project already shows a lot of promise despite being a work-in-progress and more of an experiment.
  • For example, it already runs at 1080p resolution and achieves 45 FPS on a Mac device.

Bully remains highly popular over the years despite not seeing a sequel. A new game simply never came out because Rockstar has just been too busy with its other franchises. But the team knows it’s well-liked, calling it one of its 4 most popular games ever in the past.

Fans have gotten tired of waiting, however. They are now beginning to work on their own Bully remakes, which imagine the franchise under a modern lens. A dedicated user is now porting Bully from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 using AI tools.

Why it matters: Bully fans have grown increasingly desperate after multiple rumors suggested Take-Two was planning on revisiting the IP in the form of remakes or remasters over the years.

The original Bully is now being ported to Unreal Engine 5 in this ambitious project.

Twitter user @ashen_one reveals that he is porting Bully in Unreal Engine 5.8, describing it as an ‘unofficial, non-commercial, work-in-progress fan project’ that is built with ‘AI assistance and developed in public.’ The near 3-minute video shows off the remake in all its glory.

Ashen clarifies that he may never get to complete the whole port on his own despite his best attempts. Other enthusiasts are free to join him and experiment with porting the entire original Bully experience.

Broader free-roam systems, schedules, missions, and later chapters are experiments or possible directions, not delivery commitments.

The current Bully build ported to UE5.8 achieves 45 FPS at 1080p resolution on a Mac device. However, the performance will only get better as the project further develops over time.

Bully 2
Bully 2 could prove to be incredibly popular, as the IP still boasts a massive fan following.

The port is not a one-click download as you’d expect from an in-development build, requiring gamers to follow specific instructions on GitHub to set it up.

We could also see Rockstar develop a sequel after GTA 6, as it vowed to release future titles much faster moving forward.

Do you think Rockstar Games will return to the Bully franchise after GTA 6 launches, or is that just a pipe dream for IP fans? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
